Now that I have started working on the-1857-album-quilt again, I seem to be making remarkable progress. Some of these I have cut in half for the borders and one is cut in quarters for the corners. The colour is really off. I am using a Kona snow which reads as white.
Since I completed my -one-monthly-goal the 13 blocks for the borders with 3 weeks to spare, I guess the next thing is to complete some of the blocks that are started. This should not take too long since the corner leaves are already done and at least half of the rest of the stitching is started.
If I stay away from the solid reproduction fabrics, I can progress with greater joy using prints since they turn under with more ease. And since my hands are really hurting now that it has turned wintry cold, that will be nice. I saw an arthritis doctor last month and after more Xrays and ultrasounds on my hands and wrists, toes and ankles and more blood work, I am told that I am quite normal and should take Turmeric supplements and immerse my hands in a big bowl of heated lentils (not beans).
Blessings,
Chris

Hi,
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, love the pattern.
Have a great day!
Great progress. Sorry about the arthritis, growing older isn't easy.
ReplyDeleteLooking good! Sorry to hear about the aches and pains, as that really doesn't make quilting fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear. I really hate going to a doctor anymore, because they can never find what the problem is. For some reason, when it comes to medical stuff, I always have to be the problem child. Heh! I'm sorry they can't be more helpful for your hands! Have you ever tried the Turmeric? Does it even really work?
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I hope you get some relief from your pain and start feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteNice progress on your 1857 / the beans and tumeric advice sounds great!
ReplyDeleteYour 1857 project is turning out so lovely. I had not heard of the Tumeric or Lentil idea...thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi there, this is going to be quite the beauty when completed.
ReplyDeleteI was very interested in your arthritis chat...my fingers have been causing me a little problem just lately. I take glucosomine with food and I did buy turmeric at the same time but haven't started it. Will do so now and I never knew about the immersing your hands idea. Will try that also as sore fingers may become a way of life now. Grrr...
The recipe reads take 8 cups any variety lentils (not beans)
Deleteheat in microwave for 4 minutes. That's 1 1/2 minutes too long in my microwave.
Roll your hands in it until it cools down. Can store the lentils in a zip lock bag in the fridge. I use a big ceramic bowl. The suggestion was to set it on your lap and watch a movie. I tried that once but spilled lentils all over myself. I just set the bowl on the table and play with them. One tiny lentil dropped on the floor has the potential to seriously hurt my husbands foot.
I was told to get the advanced Turmeric 500mg by Webber Naturals. I got it at Costco for about $30 CDN. Take 2 capsules twice daily for 3 months then cut it back to one twice daily. Problem is, I was having serious loose bowls so I stopped taking them until I could determine the cause. Has it worked so far? not sure because I forgot and was only taking one twice daily them upped it to two until the bowel thing.
Thank you so much for your informative reply. I know exactly what you mean about one thing leading to another and then kind of losing track. I was thinking the glucosomine was helping me...I was taking it for my hip, and then out of the blue the fingers started acting up. I am going to add the turmeric because I really don't want to start on those arthritis drugs...yet. I mean when I've got to I will. I have lentils in the cupboard too. Thanks again.
DeleteYour quilt is lovely. I love the appliqued flowers mixed in.
ReplyDeleteDid your doctor say you have osteoarthritis? That is what I have and the dr said there was really nothing I could do about it, just part of aging. Gee thanks. But if the lentils help that, I'm all for it. I don't think I could take the Turmeric either for the same reason.
I have pretty bad arthritis in both hands, and it seems much better if I use them either knitting or stitching by hand every day. Otherwise they get much stiffer and more painful.
