Last week I was in India
It's a long long way from home
But there was internet and wifi
And I could call home by phone
It's a long long way from home
But there was internet and wifi
And I could call home by phone
To the HIV Hospice
Is a difficult place to go
This woman's little boy
Was born here 7 years go
The women's conference
Started out with treats
Then we gave them pencil crayons
To colour up their sheets
I have been encouraging women
As I try to do my part
As I try to do my part
They have so encouraged me
And God has broken my heart
And God has broken my heart
As I humble myself and pray for them
They also pray for me
Especially since the car rides
Are all kind of scary
The lepers came from far and near
Their rotting flesh to show
We give them rice and lentils
And pray for them before they go
Their rotting flesh to show
We give them rice and lentils
And pray for them before they go
KSK College is for women
To get an education
Where they can earn a Batchelor's degree
And make an impact on the nation
This baby has waited
Six months for a name
I got the privilege to name her Holly
And she will never be the same
God's great love to impart
I have to wait for translation
Before sharing from my heart
Overwhelming is what
A shopping trip can be
But every girl needs a dress or two
And at least one new saree
It's always fun to see the kids
At our school for a while
They sing and dance with such passion
And that always makes us smile
The pastor's conference in the church
Was really quite amazing
From the platform at the front
We sat listening and gazing
I'd been stitching at the airport
Stitching on the plane
Stitching in my room at night
And stitching on the train.
My next scheduled trip will be
In the month of November
It will be in the year 2018
A good date to remember
Blessings
Chris
how long have you been making these trips? what an adventure you must have each time you go
ReplyDeleteYes, it is always an adventure. I started going in 2006 and have been 10 times.
DeleteWow, I follow your lovely appliques but hadn't realised you had a side of life so different. This must be a very moving and rewarding trip that you make, you must be exhausted by the end. Only in the last year have I begun to see how much I can impact on another person's life , there isn't anything I know that has been more fulfilling than bringing some kindness. Thanks for sharing this side, I've enjoyed your post. I wonder if you've found inspiration for sewing being in touch with a different culture. Best wishes
ReplyDeleteThanks Lou. I follow patterns and struggle with colour selection and I try to take along several hand applique blocks to keep my hands busy, but in reality, there are so many times when I travel that I am sitting and discovered that this is a good time to keep my hands busy.
DeleteYes I have been exhausted after returning and only just feel human again after the jet lag recovery and bowels have settled back to normal.
This and you are amazing! :) What a blessing :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing journey! You are very brave indeed!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of you stitching on the train!
amazing & inspiring story! Next time you come to India, make a trip to North East India ;)
ReplyDeleteA powerful story. Thank you for sharing. So much adversity in our world but also so much hope. Jo
ReplyDeleteGreat way to share your trip with the pics and short comments, Chris. Bless you!
ReplyDeleteYour rhyming poetry about your mission work touches my heart. In all you do I see you Christ's amazing grace impart. My prayer for you is that God would provide for all the funding for your missions work. How did you get involved in all these community outreach activities? What are the challenges of ministry in India? Why do you feel called to missions?
ReplyDeleteShalom,
Kevin (Member of The Word Guild)
Thank you for your encouraging words. I do not do poetry very often, but when I do, it just comes. All the outreach activities are part of Harvest India, the ministry in India that we have partnered with. I have been able to fund all my ministry trips so far and am very grateful to God for allowing us to be so generous.
DeleteRight now the challenges of ministry in India is getting our funds into the hands of those who really need it in Jesus name.
Twelve years ago, my husband was talking to God and commented that he was glad he was not called to missions because that scared the snot out of him. Silly boy. Silly prayer. Two days later he was invited to join a friend going to India. A year later I was invited to go to see what God was doing. I have been 10 times now and cannot stay away.
