OMG July Quilting Goals

As the saying goes . . . Go big or go home . . .
I had a big project on the go for the past 2 months that I could not blog about, so could not commit to completing anything else that was of any size. For my July monthly goal, I want to start and complete the center block for the Morrell Album Quilt . I have so neglected this one. I had good intentions of making one block a week. That lasted for one week. Maybe two.  This center block measures 20 inches square and is not for the faint of heart. That has never stopped me from trying. So, try I will.

Morrell Center Block
The first thing I did was change my mind about the colours. There will be lots of detail on this one with applique and surrounded by a daunting red and cream dog tooth border. There are several ways I could approach this block. I am going to give hand piecing a try. At least for that pinwheel.

Also, I want to complete the GORF quilt by connecting all the quilted blocks together. It will be the first time using this method, do wish me luck.

Blessings,
Chris

  1. So you did this quilt, quilt as you go? I've never tried that method, yet anyway, but someday I will. I'll be watching to see your progress. Blessings, Gretchen

    1. I machine quilted it in squares a long time ago. Now it will be gifted as a wedding present and half to complete the thing this month. I will be connecting the squares with strips and link to a cou0le of tutorials.

  2. Good luck with your goal. Your appliqued blocks are awesome. I've never made a quilt with that method so I can't give you any advice except ; good luck. ;^)

    1. And luck is what I will be needing. I started and messed up right away so am checking the accuracy of my template. It was off by the distance between two points of the same line that is drawn slanted instead of straight across the mid point of one of those awesome cured lines.

  3. My first attempt was a disaster. I didn't cut the fabric with enough bias in the center, and I had puckers. Big ones!

    1. Thank you Marjorie. I love applique. You, however, do so much quilting, especially by hand.
