Nature Friday Ride and Walk

Welcome to Nature Friday, where we get to meet new friends and share a picture or two of what nature looks like around Blogville.
HAPPY MAY!
We aren't quite sure where April went but we are really enjoying the beautiful Spring weather here in the high desert of New Mexico!

Today, I am going to tell you a little about the Elephant Butte Lake, and the small town of Truth or Consequences.

The weather when we arrived in Elephant Butte was beautiful....except it was really windy. While we were waiting (and hoping) for the wind to die down, the pawrents took me for a ride in hopes we could find a place to hike. Elephant Butte State Park was closed for the day, but we stopped to take in the pretty view.

Elephant Butte Dam was built from 1911 until its completion in 1916. It created the largest body of water in New Mexico and can irrigate up to 178,000 acres land!

When we visit Cedar Grove RV Park next time we are going to make it a point to get out and do some hiking around the lake!

After we left Elephant Butte Lake, we took a drive to the next town over,  Truth or Consequences
We found a pawsome trail and set off on a little hike!

T or C was incorporated in 1914 as Hot Springs, NM.

As the name suggests, Hot Springs was(and is) the home of a cluster of Rio Grande hot springs. People flocked here because of the healing properties the hot springs were/are said to have. There are more than a few resorts and spas people come here visit just to experience the hot springs.

If the town is known for its hot springs, why did they change the name???

Well, back in 1950 as part of a publicity stunt for a popular USA TV game, "Hot Springs" changed its name to Truth or Consequences.

The producer, Ralph Edwards, visited T or C every year for quite a while. In fact, to this day, Edwards is celebrated the first weekend in May during the Fiesta celebration.
Pretty cool, huh??

OH, did I mention the trail we walked was in back of the T or C Veteran's Park?? This eagle is the guardian of the park.

They also had pretty barrel cactus.

Aren't their blooms beautiful!!

I hope you enjoyed our little hike through the Southwest landscape while learning a bit about Truth or Consequences, NM. Mama will be back on Tuesday to tell you about the pawrents little side trip to Hatch, NM!

We sure hope everyone gets out to enjoy some nature this weekend!

Backyard Wildlife Wednesday - When Harlan and Harlan Jr. Stop By

We can always tell when either Harlan or Harlan Jr. have been by the "birdy watering hole" because, instead of the usual loud and crowded bird feeders, they suddenly look like this:
**crickets**

Here are some clips TC caught of Harlan Jr. and Harlan earlier this month:

As always, feel free to visit our YouTube Channel HERE

Easter weekend we took ArCe about four hours south of our place to Elephant Butte, NM. It was a very laid back weekend filled with walkies and relaxing. Happy to Stroll
by Sunny

Five you say, may not be old
I am not weak, I'm very bold
But instead of running, I'd rather stroll.

Rosy and Daddy, they love to run
But if Mama and I would run
In minutes we'd be done.

We like to stay back and admire the view,
taking in the sun and being the few
strolling along, like tourists do.

So Rosy, you and Daddy can run,
but if you're taking a poll
Don't worry about Mama and I
We're going to stroll.

This is Five
From the Pawrents:
Happy 5th Birthday to Sunny, our true Taurus:
  • -Committed to comfort and routine (Especially routine)
  • -Strong-willed and frank (and vocal about it!)
  • -Dependable and hardworking (always prefers having a job to do)
  • -Dedicated and stubborn (Understatement)
  • -Sensual (This always throws us for a loop. Sunny is the most snuggly lapdog we have ever had. No matter what her mood previously during the day, at 3:50pm and 8:10pm she wants to climb up on Mama's lap for belly rubs and snuggle time)

Thankful Thursday

On the last day before turning five, I have so many things to be thankful for and it was hard to choose just one.

I decided for my fifth birthday, I would list my top five thankfuls:

5. Greenies....because you know, they are delicious nuggets of green goodness!

4. I am thankful for family adventures, something I might not have been thankful for a few years ago. I am thankful that I can be a part of family adventures without being real sick during the journey.

3. I am thankful I am in less pain since I started getting my librela shots. Mama is trying to limit them to every six weeks. She says that even though they block pain, if I keep running and jumping, I could injure my knee and leg without even knowing.

2. I am thankful for Rosy! Having a patient loving sister is very important. When I become "activated" sometimes I don't know what I'm doing and I growl and charge Rosy. Rosy remains calm, that helps me remember where I am so I can settle down and "deactivate".

1. Mama and Daddy are number 1 on my thankful list this year. Daddy gives me cheese and greenies, and drives us to cool places in ArCe. Mama...well Mama feeds me dinner...puts up with my Sunny-tude and still loves me if I bite her toe-ies (I may have over reacted when she stepped on my paw).
Anyways...I do know how lucky I am to have such pawsome pawrents!

Of course, I am also glad for every one in Blogville. It is pawsome to have such a
wonderful support system from all over the world!
