It took me a few years to come to terms with the fact that my house is too small for a traditional Christmas tree, Real or artificial. For years we put up a “live” tree and then eventually switched to an artificial tree and we kept making the same mistake. We kept getting traditional shaped trees. We’d cram them in to our space and would even move the furniture this way and that to make room for it.

Perfect Christmas Tree for a small space

Finally last year I waved the white flag and said that’s it. No more rearranging the furniture for a Christmas tree! We’re getting a smaller tree. And I bought the perfect Christmas tree for our small space.

The perfect Christmas tree for our small space:

Perfect Christmas Tree for a small space

I found this pre-lit, flocked pencil Christmas tree at Michaels, but they are available everywhere.

Perfect Christmas Tree for a small space

I love everything about this tree. I love that’s flocked, I love that the lights are already on it, I love that it’s easy to store away, and I especially love that it’s so easy to decorate!

DIY Pallet Wood Christmas Tree box

And I love how it looks in the Christmas Tree Box that I built last year.

I placed my beloved paper Christmas trees (the rolled paper rose tree, the paper medallion tree, and the white paper tree) on the floor near the base of the pencil tree. Two of these paper tree are five years old and one is four! I bring them out every year and they still look great!!!

I decorated the tree with the Chalk Couture ornaments that I made recently and few favorites from last year, and of course the ever-popular Believe ornaments.

I also added a few of my favorite things:

  1. Black and white buffalo check ribbon
  2. red and white pom pom garland

Jeanie…Your Christmas tree is gorgeous! That red and white pompom garland looks beautiful with the plaid and I love the Christmas box you made. I think I need to invest in one of those really thin trees, too…I’m also tired of having to move all the furniture to make way for the tree 🙂 Maybe next year…

This is such a pretty tree. I think pencil trees are fun, they are different from the average tree so they stand out. You did a beautiful job of decorating your thin tree it’s really really pretty,

You had me at ‘easy to decorate’! It’s just so pretty! Love the combination of reds and buffalo check ribbon. I love the pencil tree and now I am inspired to get one! I can relate to trying to cram a huge live tree into a small space. They look so much bigger once you get them indoors, don’t they!

I have a skinny tree, too! Not as skinny as yours, but I love how it takes up less space. My favorite decoration on your tree is the different checkered ribbon that compliment each other so well. Thank you for sharing!!

I need to find one of these trees for next year. I love how even with the slender size you make it look grand and quite impressive. So cute! And that medallion tree next to it is adorable! Wish I had a machine to do that.

I was just thinking earlier today that I would love to get a pencil tree for next year and then saw yours and know I have to have one. I’m going to look at the sales at the end of the season. Your tree is just beautiful and I love everything about it.

Your tree is so pretty. I like that you decided on a tall pencil tree instead of a small tabletop tree. Very unique and inspiring to see it all decorated. Great job!

The skinny tree is perfect for the space. I like that your grounded it with the pallet box it makes it feel a bit more substantial for the size. Also loving your RD inspired ornaments.

I have a tree that is tall and thin– not as narrow as the pencil tree like you have, but definitely mine is a slim tree. The branches at the bottom are higher up on the tree than is traditional, too. I love the tree. Yours is right up my alley, too! Mine is a little rustic with a realistic look and bark and real looking needles, too. I like the red, white, green, gold, and silver look of traditional design. I am trying to simplify and declutter. I have donated a lot of knickknacky Christmas items and honestly just a lot of stuff overall. I needed a few large statement pieces in the house rather than a thousand forgettable knicknacks., for each season.

This year I am donating very much to simplify, and I am also finding the things I really want rather than filler placeholders! I do love thrift shopping, and I just found really high quality
big brass vintage reindeer. A pair of them was the right move for the console table rather than cheaper quality reindeer I could have found anywhere. I am focused on picking up the kinds of things we will look forward to gettIng out every Christmas rather than “disposable” or “forgettable” decor. I feel before I was trying to be so careful of budget and finding cheap items I ended up actually spending MORE money than if I had not bought the knick knack and just gotten one or two really special things we would love every year. The brass reindeer were big and it turned out they were $14.99 for the pair at a thrift store rather than expensive, but originally they were expensive wherever they came from.

For the tree, the big oversized tree won’t work here in the space. I need something easy to store, too. The slim tree is far better by the fireplace. I find clutter stressful, and storing a big oversized tree just adds clutter for the very small home and I want it easy and low stress. This tree is way easier than some I have had. It is not a huge house, and a smaller tree looks more proportional and the narrow style fits better for the space. I am still donating things I am tired of storing or that are what I wou!d call forgettable Christmas decor. There are very specific special things, then there is stuff none of us would treasure as special . The importance is not the tree size, but remembering who this season is for and building love and family traditions, too. If the decor is a knickknack, I am gifting it or donating it. A lot of tiny forgettable cheap stuff I just don’t want anymore.
