We ate Thanksgiving dinner at about 2 in the afternoon and other than a piece of pie I didn’t eat again the rest of the day!! I think that is saying I made a pig of myself – or my cooking was good LOL This was the first year to use my grandma Hazel’s china – my aunt had the china after grandma died back in 81 and when my aunt was in hospice this summer my cousin – her son- asked me if I wanted it as they needed to clean out her apartment which is such a painful process- who gets what – everything needed to be out– well yes of course I said I would take it home with me!! This is just some of it.

I had started a new Tunisian Crochet scarf the other day that I showed you but it got unraveled as I was making it too wide – I got started again on it with less stitches on Wednesday – late in the afternoon yesterday while we sat and visited after we stuffed ourselves I got it back out to work on and it was this big.

By evening it was this big! wow these grow fast. I gave Melanie the red/gray cowl that I made on our camping trip along with a pair of fingerless gloves that I fashioned out of the left over yarn. This scarf will go to our other daughter Jessica along with one that I need to get yarn for still to our granddaughter Ciera. Aniya will get the white scarf that I made shortly after we got home, I will put it with her Christmas present. How do you get the ends of crochet to stop curling on the ends I wonder – I will need to look that up.

This block of Ciera’s quilt got done on Wednesday night and I was working on the last star in the row last night. Linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict —

Of course I could not resist the Craftsy sales and then I had a notice as an affiliate late Wednesday that the early Black Friday door busters was open to us and had to go back and shop more – I really wasn’t going to but then I saw the door busters of select clearance items like jelly rolls for $10 and charm packs for $3 – I really resisted for half the day and then had to go to the computer after Melanie and Ric left for home (with pie in their arms) and order some. Did you hold out any better than I?
The links to the sales are listed on yesterday’s blog post if you are interested or just click on the link in the upper paragraph or on the upper side bar – I’m not going to bother you with listing them again today. I think I am done with my quilt supply shopping for the year now. Last year I ordered so many packages of leather stick on thimbles and other items for hand quilting that I still have some left which is a good thing because I see Craftsy doesn’t sell them anymore – I guess they assume there are no hand quilters left! I find these Thanksgiving sales to be the best for quilting supplies I stock up every year between now and the end of the year – who wants to pay $12 (US dollar) a yard for fabric if you can buy the same thing on sale at this time of year for half or even less!
But I admit I do not do the sales on Black Friday itself at the stores – only on line – I can’t stand going to a physical store on a major sale day. So much easier to shop on line – do you think so too?
That vintage china you inherited is just precious … I am glad you got to pull it out and use it too 🙂
I love the yarn you are using for your Tunisian crochet project… I love how it changes colors!!
Your quilting is moving right along… I did a bit of unscheduled shopping early in the week and didn’t have any funds or need to shop during the Craftsy sale. I want to start investing in some wool bits next year too so trying to be good for that AND I am investing in cork for my wallet and bag making as well! lol Sew much to collect for <3
Have a blessed weekend my friend and enjoy figuring how you want you scarf to be…. I am liking how that stitch looks in it though.
We were so full pie waited for breakfast time here! lol

I love this yarn too that I am using for this scarf it is working out well. I love this stitch and have it figured out and like how it kind of looks like knitting. There are so many stitches and I have a book with good photos on my Ipad and several classes, but I think I like the book best so far.
Looks like you had a very nice T’giving, as did we. I got out fine china also – why do I keep it, I wonder? I use it once or twice a year. After I did the last of the dishes, I sat down to read and later had a glass of wine. It was truly a relaxing time.
I’m not going shopping today or tomorrow, either. Crowds aren’t usually bad here in rural Vermont, though. I will re-check Craftsy for fabric, though. I have been using their thread lately since they sent me a freebie. I really like it, as it’s similar to Mettler.
LOL I really didn’t need the china either – I will only use it once in awhile but it was nice to keep it in the family – if I no longer want it I’m sure I can pass it on to someone else we have such a large extended family that all come from this grandma.
It is supposed to rain today and our fitness center is closed, we might go out this afternoon after the crowds in the store are low and just walk inside some of the box stores for exercise – it is amazing how many steps you can rack up by walking the outer edges.
Glad you got your grandmother’s china! And love the scarf! I have so far not purchased any fabric! Yay me! Unusual though…but I did have a friend pick up for me a 20 yard pack of 90 inch batting on sale! I should be set with batting for a while which is what I run out of the most! I just hope it’s a good quality! I’m sort of picky! Ha!
I know what you mean about batting – I am picky too – I used to only get Quilters Dream but it is pricey and rarely seems to go on sale, now I get Tuscany 100% cotton I got 2 king size for about $17 each the other day on Craftsy. – I have two large quilts to quilt this coming year and I already have one twin size on the shelf so I am just about set for the year.
Fun to pull out the special china for a special dinner! I have both my mom’s and my mother-in-law’s in boxes in the basement – don’t know what I will do with both. I haven’t purchased any Black Friday fabric deals yet, but I’m looking! Looks like your crochet is back on the right track – pretty yarn!
we will probably only use the china for the holiday dinners or if some special occasion comes up but it is nice to have. yes the crochet is back on track and nice to pick up for something different to do now and then
That vintage china set is beautiful! Too bad the younger generation doesn’t appreciate the fine china anymore. I’ve seen lots of great known patterns in thrift stores cheaply marked. Tu-Na Helper set the table yesterday (it was just the two of us) he used the everyday Corelle. But then again I only have Corelle in three patterns in my AZ house. I keep my kitchen work to a minimum and only have dishwasher safe dishes here.
I used to enjoy shopping in stores on Black Friday but when they started opening up on Thanksgiving day I stopped. I now order a lot online through the year.
I must say that I’ve been very disappointed with Craftsy Unlimited–now called Blueprint. When I first signed up it was for any of the Craftsy classes and now that it’s Blueprint the selection seems to be limited and now I see that Craftsy is offering classes!! Kind of makes me see red. I will not be subscribing a second year.
most young people do not seem to like china like they used to – I was glad to get it. I agree with you on Bluprint – I don’t like the changes made – in the program and to the affiliates—I believe Craftsy was bought out by the people that run NBC – and it has changed too much
We ate about the same time as you and had pie at five, so we couldn’t eat anymore either, lol. Your china is beautiful, so special since it was your grandmother’s. I like that stitch better than the last one you did, maybe if you block it when you finish, it will fix the curl. I couldn’t resist looking on Craftsy again, and got two jelly rolls, a layer cake, two charm packs and a 22 piece fat quarter bundle for 20 dollars. I can’t believe how low the prices are, can you? It’s 70 degrees today with beautiful sunshine, so I think I will work in the yard cleaning it up now that we had a hard freeze. Enjoy your walking today.
thank you Dottie – I know what you mean though I couldn’t pass those prices up either.
I am still eating pie today and leftovers. I have used the carcasses of the birds and made 8 pints of turkey broth and now making duck broth.
You can block crocheted and knitted pieces just like you block quilts. How nice that the china came your way. I like you was a bit of a pig, but it is Thanksgiving!
thanks I kind of wondered if it could be blocked. The sides are nice and straight so that is good but that curl on the end!
