Fabric Arrived

Yes I know I bought a lot of supplies while on the road but at that time I wasn’t thinking gray or wide backs – totally forgot about wide backs and totally wasn’t thinking about Round We Go.

So this is what I got – I ordered two packages of 10 inch squares – got one yesterday and waiting for the next for more variety.  This is Color Cuts from Moda – 24 squares – this was from the Fat Quarter Shop and I ordered from Craftsy a batting and another package of gray squares.

Two of each

One possible way to use some for an example – still planning on sashing also – right now the idea is still red with white polka dots but that idea can change of course.  I am linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today –

The wide back for Fall Harvest – sorry the quilt is upside down

One more flannel block on the wall – I’m surprised no one knew the name of these blocks – no one?  I haven’t a clue what the design is called. As I get more blocks done more things will come down off the wall – Brimfield Awakenings two blocks are now on the shelf.  As you can tell I am in no rush to get these made – just having fun making one or two blocks each day – plenty to work on and plenty waiting to be quilted – so no rush

Tumalo Trails from Wednesday night

Almost got done to this end just have a couple more lines to quilt and then I go back to the middle and work my way over to the right side.  The hands were not bothering me last night so I worked longer than I had been doing.

Hey Karen… I LOVE LOVE LOVE those grey blocks you got for your Round we go blocks… will be PERFECT!!! and red polkadot sashing possibly?? wowee!!! totally rad combo I think for these epp circles that seemed so traditional and now you are giving them a modern zing! Lovely 😀
I have that same wide back backing on my current hand quilting project!!! I love the weight and feel of it.. can’t wait to be done and snuggling it too!!! Enjoy ironing and layering it up when you loadit … mine was very easy to keep straight!
You are so busy with those brimfield blocks growing all the while too and you can definitely see the top of your hand quilting project <3 So excited for all you are up to! I don't know the name of your flannel blocks either! Happy stitching! Kathi

yes these grays are pretty cool aren’t they – I will decide on the sashing after I get all of these appliqued in place.
Neat that you have the same backing on your quilt!

The neutral fabric makes perfect backgrounds for your colorful blocks.. a nice low key contrast… and seeing all of them together in a bunch is great. I am saving your post so I can look at them again.

      thanks Maxine

I recognize some of those greys from the Sweetwater Harmony line… so pretty! And I have some of that same backing fabric… great minds think alike!

3 of us have the same backing lol – it is pretty nice isn’t it

  • Kat Jul 6, 2018 @ 8:21

I believe you can’t go wrong with grey.
    Looking good

when I said I was going to use a variety of gray for a background some said I was playing it safe – and that it would be boring – but I guess they didn’t understand when I said gray prints that they would be all kinds and not boring in the least

I just looked through page/page of Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns by Brackman & found no such pattern. It didn’t look familiar to me & her book has 500+ pages! Not a clue-historically it would be in this compilation of 4, 000 patterns. Did my best-sorry. Susan

and the book I looked through was a different one with 5,500 and I didn’t see it either yet I know I have seen it before! thanks for looking

I really like those gray background squares, too! I would never have thought to look for 10″ precuts – they will be so convenient! It’s so nice when an idea you have in your head works out the way you hoped.

I knew I wanted 10 inch squares as I thought 12 inch would be a little too big and I was surprised at how many layer cakes are available and gray is popular right now – I ordered another kind from Craftys and should get them any day now – I should have a good variety and maybe have enough left overs that I can cut into strips for a final border or binding

Love the pink triangles in Tumalo Trails, so pretty. The grey squares really make your blocks pop too. The flannel blocks look so familiar to me too, like I’ve seen them somewhere, but it just won’t come to me. My daughter and grandson are coming from Kentucky for a visit on Sunday, so I’ve been getting ready, less time for stitching, but I get some EPP in the evening. Finally in the 90s during the day and 70s during the night. The 100s were a bit too hot for me, lol.

  • Karen Jul 6, 2018 @ 13:48

Have a good visit with your family Dottie it’s still in the high 90’s everyday here 90 would feel better!! The flannel block pattern is so familiar to me too and the name is not coming to me

Karen, I love those gray fabrics for the Round We Go block backgrounds! I don’t think you could have made a better choice…. Looking forward to seeing what you choose for the sashing strips!
I really like the wide backing for Fall Harvest, too!
I could not find a name for the flannel blocks…I was sure I would find the name in my Jinny Beyer book, but didn’t…. I even tried to think of a suggestion for you, but came up blank there as well!
We are finally getting some relief from the hot, humid weather tomorrow….it is raining now, much needed for sure… It will only be cooler (in the low 80’s!!) for a couple of days, but I’ll take it… I hope I can get outside and do some weeding tomorrow…the weeds continue to grow no matter what!

    • Karen Jul 6, 2018 @ 19:27

no one seems to know what the flannel block is called but most seem to agree that we have seen it around – this has really gotten me curious now and it is bugging me!!
I didn’t think to look in the Jinny Beyer book – I can’t think what else to look in.
we had storms come in late today and cooled things off a bit thank goodness – down in the 70’s now for overnight and the next couple days will be near 90 but not near a hundred.

The circular stars look very good laying on those gray squares. You got quite a variety in your packets.

    • Karen Jul 9, 2018 @ 6:52

yes the variety was good but I’m glad there were enough dark – there was way more light ones
