Applique Prep Done

Finally yesterday I got the center of Morning Glory completely prepped and ready for the project box – not leaving for awhile yet but nice to have one thing ticked off the list.  By late morning I had little applique pins all over the place holding pieces in place until I could glue baste.

The glue basting was all done – the pins taken out and I could say it was ready for the stitching.   The tree and everything to the left side from the stem the bird is standing on and the red flower on that stem are done – the left side most of the bird is done but nothing else and all that I just glue basted of course.

When I need to I gently left fabric up separating it from the glue and use the little applique pins to hold in place while I stitch – In this case I needed to move the legs out of the way while I stitched the top of the stem and the birds feet will go on top of that.

In this area I will need to loosen leaf’s and stitch down part of the rabbit and then put the leaf back over the top.  The line drawn on the rabbit’s hind quarter will be outlined with embroidery thread.

while I had the glue out I thought I would go ahead and glue baste one of the Brimfield Awakening wreaths down.  First I gently took the paper out from the back and then pressed the seam lines back down firmly.  I marked the seam allowance  and the middle of block so I could center the wreath.  Then with small glue dots of Roxanne glue I basted it down.  The inside of the wreath is now stitched.

I love seeing the close ups of your preplanned on the road projects and how you glue baste or don’t in areas to keep it workable… you really know applique and do such a great job of it!! Brimfield is amazing and I had no idea that your Morning Glory was that large a piece! You are sooo busy and accomplished for sure! Have a blessed day friend 😀

yes the center panel for Morning Glory is large – i think it finishes at 29.5 when sewn in place and then there are 12 blocks that go around it I think. I know a lot of people do not do applique as I do by glue basting or thread basting all the pieces in place but I find when traveling especially doing it this way works for me and I have done 4 applique quilts like this I think.

Your Morning Glory block is going to be just beautiful – I love all the detail in it! Brimfield Awakening looks great on that black background, too. Two very different projects. Nice to have them ready to go on the road, I bet!

I think I will leave Brimfield Awakening home and concentrate on Morning Glory – I usually do not do that but if I only have that to focus on maybe I can get it done. The black background certainly plays well with those bright batiks doesn’t it.

Wow! It is painstakingly slow and intricate work, Karen. Of course, I am sure it will be well worth the effort. Wishing you safe travels and happy sewing.

thanks Preeti – I always look on applique like painting a picture!

Beautiful work on Morning Glory, I’m sure you’ll finish it on your trip during June. The black batik background certainly makes the other colors pop, so pretty. Are you half way yet on Tumalo Trails? You are just so fast with all your projects I could never keep up! Another hot day today, 97. Boy, I don’t know where my spring went, it usually is rainy during May, but not this year. Enjoy your day.

97! wow hasn’t gotten near that here yet thank goodness. I am more than halfway on Tumalo Trails – when I rolled the quilt down last night the end was in sight.

thanks Gail – this will be a nice one to look at while working for sure
