Tic Tac Toe

I managed to finish up this easy quilt top yesterday – yes easy because as I had told you all last week, I won a stack of 12.5 inch blocks from Cynthia at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.  That meant a good part of the work in making a quilt was finished.  I fooled around with design for awhile and came up with Tic Tac Toe and then sewed the blocks together and the rows into a quilt.  Next up will be quilting it but I’m taking a couple days off of machine work and get some more of my hand work done.  My sewing table is clean and the dust cover is on the machine – I just might get Round we Go back out and get 4 more circle stars prepped for block #5.

Two halves of the quilt now done – nice having the space of the quilting frame to use too for big pieces.

And here is the top finished – 72 inch square and I imagine that will shrink down to about 66-68 inches square which will be a good lap size quilt for someone going through the trials of chemo.  And some one reminded me that X’s and O’s are hugs and kisses – so will be sending love to a person who needs some hugs for sure.  This quilt will go for the hands2help charity you can get more info on donating at Sarah’s blog – linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict .

yesterday I found a few more bleeding places so no more spritzing out the blue lines for this quilt.  It will just need to wait until it goes in the washing machine now – sorry about that, I know in the past some of you have asked me to wash out those lines so you can see the quilting better – what you see is it – I have no stress wondering if these bleeding areas will come out but I don’t want to push my luck.  I only have two more nights on this section to the end of the row before I roll it down again.  Now that I am getting used to the quilting designs it goes a little faster.  Linking to Sew Fresh QuiltsJo’s Country Junction Midweek Makers

The charity quilt will definitely make someone’s day brighter! You really put that together quick! I am amazed at how fast you quilt by hand; it sure is pretty!

Do you have any special technique to get rid of any bleeding after washing your quilt?
Love that charity quilt. I might have to think of making that pattern for my doctor daughter, only all x’s like the twist in DNA .

soak it for a several hours in lots of water – with color catchers and then wash it several times – check it and see if the bleed is still there if it is wash and soak again until satisfied use some retayne if needed.

Tic Tac Toe looks great, and I love the additional meaning behind the Xs and Os! It is a really nice size for a donation. The curvy design you’re quilting in the sashing of Tumalo Trails looks so nice in the space, too!

    • Karen Mar 28, 2018 @ 9:00

yes it should be a good size for donation maybe slightly bigger than it should be but I think after I quilt, wash/dry it should be ok I know it will shrink – all of my quilts do!

It was such a big help to have the blocks done so you could finish sewing them together, it’s going to make someone feel so much better with all those kisses and hugs. I just love to look at your quilting, it’s so pretty. I used my$25 coupon code from Craftsy yesterday and my quilt kit will be here Saturday. What a good deal this is and I found some more videos I want to watch too. Your sewing table is so clean and I’m envious of your quilting frame and beautiful sewing room!

vintage tablecloths sound like an interesting idea for valances – glad you have got to the point in your new house that you can sit and sew and quilt!

Lots of busyness happening in your quilting room, just like always. Everything is coming along well so you must be very pleased with your progress.

    • Karen Mar 28, 2018 @ 14:47

Love the modern x’s and o’s quilt. That will make somebody very happy and snuggly.

    • Karen Mar 28, 2018 @ 16:31

this quilt is so totally not me LOL – I am usually very traditional but every now and then something modern pops out of me

  • Margo Apr 4, 2018 @ 10:11

Love your quilts!! I also love the other meaning of the X and O. Perfect for chemo patients.

    • Karen Apr 4, 2018 @ 10:18

this quilt is so not me in design but when I got the blocks for free from another and started playing with then the X and O’s made perfect sense!

  • Christina Apr 13, 2018 @ 8:47

What you did with the quilt squares is wonderful! I love the meaning of the XOXO’s for H2H, it is perfect. I can not wait to see how you are going to quilt it.

    • Karen Apr 13, 2018 @ 8:52

quilting will be simple – I do not do much machine quilting and when I do it straight lines so that is how this one will be also.
