I never did get around to getting back to the machine quilting yesterday and I really meant to do that. Instead I was dreaming about my new sewing machine that I won and found a 68 minute introduction to the machine on line from Babylock telling you how to use it and watched the whole thing – I have a feeling I will be watching it several times – tells you how to wind the bobbin, how to thread, how to use the feet – a very informative and very easy to understand and listen to video – this one was free and there are some to buy I’m sure I will be finding more to watch.
Besides getting a closet cleaned out I got to work cutting out some fall leaves to scatter on the border of Fall Harvest – two borders now have the vines appliqued – two more to go.
I found one quilting book on the shelf that I knew had some patterns for appliqued fall leaves and dug it out and traced some onto freezer paper and then got 9 traced around with chalk or pencil depending on the color (my turn under line) and got them cut out – well need plenty more but it was start.

This is about as thick as they will be – just scattered lightly so the border doesn’t look bare. After I get all the leaves on the quilt I will see if I think I need anything else – chances are I will say I don’t and call it done. I am linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today.
The really light one at the bottom got tossed – too light to go with border. I wasn’t thinking. Wherever I have a thick seam from vine strips overlapping I will put a leaf part way over that area – that covers up the thick seam and I didn’t waste time being very neat with the pieces meeting up exactly right. I think about 12 leaves on each border should do.
I will try to get back to the machine quilting today – but it might somehow be put off until Monday –I have a eye doctor check up out of town which will take up half the afternoon as it is 50 minutes away and when I get back my eyes will be dilated. I really doubt my eyes will be up to machine quilting .
I like your border – pulls everything together and isn’t too complicated. I read a blog recently – not sure where – in which the blogger cut out two rather large maple leaves. She sandwiched them and turned them right side out to quilt. Made very nice coasters and also mug rugs when appliqued together. I want to try that some year – not now since I have too many projects going already.
the leaves will be just what this quilt needs for sure!

The leaves are the perfect touch… I may have to try doing a few for a seasonal project. And the thrill of winning the Baby Lock just won’t stop … love it.

The color of the leaves is so perfect for Fall Harvest, I love this border. We still are cloudy and rainy, and its just so nice after all the heat. Have a safe trip for your eye appointment. I’m working on my third hexie star point today.
thanks I think I will like having the fall leaves just scattered like this – I don’t like things lined up perfectly on all borders and just like it kind of natural – only 70 right now – I’m sure the heat will be back for a little bit still in October

it sure does doesn’t it and I almost didn’t enter this year I think it was half way over before I started to notice people blogging about it. I’m excited to get this – I know it will probably be awhile before I get it but already looking at the on line videos so I will know how to use it when it arrives.

I think this quilt needed leaves for some reason – the little baskets made me think of garden work but I didn’t want to add flowers
