Book Description:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo meets First Lie Wins in this electric, voice-driven debut novel about an elusive bestselling author who decides to finally confess her true identity after years of hiding from her past.

Cate Kay knows how to craft a story. As the creator of a bestselling book trilogy that struck box office gold as a film series, she’s one of the most successful authors of her generation. The thing is, Cate Kay doesn’t really exist. She’s never attended author events or granted any interviews. Her real identity had been a closely guarded secret, until now.

As a young adult, she and her best friend Amanda dreamed of escaping their difficult homes and moving to California to become movie stars. But the day before their grand adventure, a tragedy shattered their dreams and Cate has been on the run ever since, taking on different names and charting a new future. But after a shocking revelation, Cate understands that returning home is the only way she’ll be a whole person again.

My Book Review:

In The Three Lives Of Cate Kay, author Kate Fagan weaves an interesting story that follows the journey of an elusive author who after years of living in anonymity, decides to come out of her reclusive life and confess her true identity.

The reader follows along as author Cate Kay reveals her true identity that she's held as a closely guarded secret in a memoir style way, with other characters who provide their connection to the author and their perspective / memories throughout the years.

Set in Charleston, South Carolina with past settings in Upstate New York and Los Angeles, California, the story is told in alternating first person narratives by Cate Kay and other characters who have been a part of her life. The reader follows along as Cate confronts her past by revealing three identities that she used in different parts of her life. Her story begins as a child/teen named Anne Marie (Annie) Callahan, who lived in Bolton Landing, NY with her mom Patricia. When a tragic accident happened to Annie and best friend Amanda Kent on a lake in the summer of 2000 after their high school graduation, Annie is in survival mode and drives out of town, settling in Plattsburgh, NY, working as a waitress in a cafe under her new name as Cass Ford. Cass meets pre-law student Sidney Collins in a creative writing course, and they start a relationship, and Sidney tries to help Cass release herself from her past that continues to haunt her. Fast forward to 2005, Cass and Sidney moved to New York City, Sidney graduates from law school and begins her law career, while Cass writes her novel, The Very Last, under the pseudonym of author Cate Kay. Cate continues to guard her true identity, there are no author photos or biography on the book cover. As the years go by, Cate becomes a successful author, and her fans are all curious to find out the identity of their mysterious favorite author. When the third book in her trilogy is set to be published, and she meets Ryan Channing, a young actress who is featured in a movie from the adaptation of her novel, Cate decides that she needs to confront her past through revealing her true identity in order to move forward and find happiness.

The Three Lives Of Cate Kay is a complex and multi-layered tale that is rich in detail. Cate's life has intriguing twists and turns, and the author takes the reader along for the ride as Cate reveals her life story with alternating memories from people who had been in her life. With a complex and realistic cast of characters, the author does a phenomenal job of delving into the tangled web of Cate's life filled with secrets, lies, betrayals, and a history of emotional past trauma. Cate's story is one filled with longing, misunderstandings, and angsty unrequited love. So, follow along as Cate's journey of self-discovery leads her to confronting her past and looking towards her future!

Book Description:

A hopeless romantic meets a jaded radio host in this cozy, Sleepless in Seattle-inspired love story from beloved author B.K. Borison.

Aiden Valentine has a secret: he's fallen out of love with love. And as the host of Baltimore's romance hotline, that's a bit of a problem. But when a young girl calls in to the station asking for dating advice for her mom, the interview goes viral, thrusting Aiden and Heartstrings into the limelight.

Lucie Stone thought she was doing just fine. She has a good job; an incredible family; and a smart, slightly devious kid. But when all of Baltimore is suddenly scrutinizing her love life-or lack thereof—she begins to question if she's as happy as she thought. Maybe a little more romance wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Everyone wants Lucie to find her happy ending... even the handsome, temperamental man calling the shots. But when sparks start to fly behind the scenes, Lucie must make the final call between the radio-sponsored happily ever after or the man in the headphones next to her.

My Book Review:

In First-Time Caller, author B.K. Borison weaves a lighthearted romantic tale of friendship, love and second chances.

Set in Baltimore, the reader is easily drawn into this entertaining rom com as they follow Lucie Stone and Aiden Valentine as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life, love, and second chances.

Lucie Stone is a single mom to twelve-year-old daughter Maya. She has a loving support system consisting of Grayson, her ex-BF/baby daddy and his husband Mateo, and BFF Patty. But the one thing Lucie doesn't have is a significant other. She a romantic who is waiting for the right guy to find her.

Aiden Valentine is the radio host of Baltimore's hottest romance hotline, Heartstrings. Aiden is struggling and has trouble believing in love and has lost hope in romance because of the radio callers' issues with love.

When Lucie catches Maya on the phone with Aiden, she can't believe that her daughter has called into the romance hotline and is asking for advice for her mom! What ensues is a long on-air call between Lucie and Aiden that goes viral, and the next thing she knows is that Heartstrings is going to help her with her love life! Follow along as Lucie and Aiden team up on-air to find her a romantic partner, but who knows, maybe the perfect romantic partner is right before their nose the whole time!

First-Time Caller is such a fun romantic comedy that easily keeps the reader engaged as they follow Lucie and Aiden's story. Set in Baltimore and told in alternating first person narrative by Lucie and Aiden, the reader follows along as their unexpected meeting helps both of them gain a sense of self-discovery, and a second chance at finding love and happiness in their lives.

There was a great mixture of emotion, drama, angst, humor, and crazy antics mixed in this story. The author does a great job of describing Lucie and Aiden's lives, when they begin hosting Heartstrings together. As Lucie's on-air dating experience is anything but romantic, Lucie and Aiden both realize that sparks fly between them. You can't help but cheer them on, and hope that they realize they're meant for each other.

This is a Sleepless In Seattle inspired love story, and it is exactly that. The author said that she wrote the story as a love letter to love ... the magic of love, and she sure did accomplish that!

First-Time Caller is a heartfelt story that has enough emotional depth, drama, romance, comedy, and witty banter, that makes it a delightfully entertaining romantic comedy tale that romance fans will certainly enjoy!

Book Description:

Grieving the loss of her best friend, a young woman’s life is turned upside down when she meets a grumpy stranger who swears he can help her live again, in this heartwarming, slow-burn romance by the author of Ready or Not

Lenny’s a bit of a mess at the moment. Her best friend, Lou, recently passed away after a battle with cancer, and her death has left Lenny feeling completely lost. She’s avoiding her concerned parents, the apartment she shared with Lou, and the list of things she’s supposed to do to help her live again. The only thing she can do is temporary babysitting gigs, and luckily, she just landed a great one, helping overworked, single mom Reese and her precocious daughter, Ainsley. It’s not perfect: Ainsley’s uncle, Miles, always seems to be around, and is kind of... a huge jerk. But if Lenny acts like she has it all together, maybe no one will notice she’s falling apart.

Miles sees right through her though. Turns out, he knows a lot about grief and, surprisingly, he offers her a proposition. He’ll help her complete everything on her “live again” list if she’ll help him connect with Ainsley and overcome his complicated relationship with Reese. Lenny doubts anything can fill the Lou has left behind, but she begins to spend more time with Miles, Lenny is surprised to discover that, sometimes, losing everything is only the first step to finding yourself, and love, again.

My Book Review:

In Promise Me Sunshine, author Cara Bastone weaves a heartfelt story about loss, grief, healing, finding unexpected friendship and love.

Lenny Bellamy has lost her best friend Lou Merritt to cancer six months ago, and she finds herself stuck in her grief, unable to move on with her life.

Lenny takes on a temporary nanny position for Reese Hollis, a single mom and her seven-year-old daughter, Ainsley. On the first day of her job, she meets Ainsley's uncle Miles Honey, who has a gruff personality.

As Lenny and Miles get to know each other, Miles makes a proposition to her: he'll help her get through her grief and healing process if she would help him have a better relationship with his half-sister Reese and niece Ainsley. What ensues is an emotional journey of healing and an unexpected friendship and romance between them.

Promise Me Sunshine is a beautifully written story that will tug at your heartstrings. Set in New York City, it's an emotional story about two people who have each lost someone, and how their journey of grieving and healing creates something special between them. I couldn't help but feel for Lenny as her grief has left her stuck and not doing well. But oh my gosh, when she meets Miles who appears to be gruff on the outside but a total teddy bear on the inside, she finds someone who knows what she's going through and he so lovingly helps her learn to deal with her grief, help her heal, be able to take care of herself and move on with her life. I absolutely loved Miles; he was such a wonderful guy who also dealt with loss and grief in his life, I just wanted to hug him. I couldn't help but cry and smile throughout the whole book, their journey to healing and finding each other was simply beautiful.

Promise Me Sunshine is a story wrought with loss and grief, angsty drama, challenges, heartaches, and an emotional healing process through an unexpected bond of friendship that leads to a swoon worthy romance. I loved this story! You can't help but get drawn into Lenny and Miles's story, and how they take the reader on their emotional journey.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the flashbacks to Lenny and Lou's friendship had me ugly crying, you can't help but feel how wonderful their friendship bond was, and how deeply broken with grief that Lenny became when Lou passed away. But even more special was how Miles became Lenny's support system, and how he taught her how to heal one step at a time. I was taken on one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride, and this breathtaking story left me emotionally spent but wanting so much more. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Promise Me Sunshine is a wonderful tale that will keep the reader engaged from beginning to end!
