Fall Harvest–Scrappy Baskets

Got a whole lot of sewing done yesterday due to the fact that I had the strips all cut out the day before! Everything just laying on the floor – my rows of strips are just a little to big so I need to get exact measurements today and then take in just a couple seams here and there and it will be the right size.  Also need to figure what I am doing in the corners.  I have some 4 patch squares left over so I think I will check and see if they fit and possible use them for that.  I would need to add a neutral frame around each four patch to have them fit as they will be too small of course.

Fall Harvest

On Wednesday night I got another grouping of hexies done and added to the row.  I think I like doing this way better – it doesn’t get as boring.  I sew 5 or  6 in a row and then add another row of 5 – 6 and then add them to the bulk of the top.  This corner is done and I will just keep on adding to this side until it is done.

This is the length that I am adding to.

Beautiful progress. It FEELS like fall here….more like an October morning at 50 degrees when I woke up. No complaints either ! 🙂

that feels so nice – woke up to 64 outside but warm inside, with the A/C on still here but it got so nice outside that the A/C was kicking on in the night and it is stuffing inside – opened the windows and hope to pull some of that nice cool air inside.

You have done a wonderful job of the harvest baskets. The dark inner border makes it Pop!…..love the simple piano border.

Good morning. I like the look of the piano key boarder in neutral colors. Have you considered continuing with the neutrals for several more inches on each end and then mitering the corners? Mitered corners really looks nice on this type of border and aren’t tough to do. It also would carry out the angle of the seams in the quilt. Just a thought. Have a great day!

I have done piano key borders that way sometimes but sometimes I like a different look in the corners – one time I appliqued circles in the corners and it looked great on that quilt. I don’t always like to do mitered corners and sometimes have trouble with them 🙂 I will play with it a bit and decide what is best for the quilt

Your work on both quilts is just wonderful! I like the border on Fall Harvest and the way you are doing the Handful of scraps one too. At least now I have some idea of how to finish mine. Thank you for showing how you are doing your finish. Lots of work ahead of you, but you are really getting close to finishing your quilt tops. Have a wonderful Friday stitching.

thanks Dottie – have not gotten a darn thing done today so far! it is too nice outside – a high of only 79 and the windows are open!

The piano key border is perfect for Fall Harvest Basket, and will make a great background for your appliqué, Karen. I always enjoy seeing the borders you make for your quilts. You seem to know exactly what each quilt needs to bring it to an awesome finish!
Love seeing the hexie borders growing!

thanks Sandra – I guess after you make so many you just get a feel for how you want to finish them – but I have had some that I didn’t care for when I finished.

    Hi Karen,
I just love the border around the baskets! That looks just SO cool. I don’t know why I never think to do that myself. I’m going to Pin your picture so that I remember to do that in the very near future. ~smile~ Roseanne
