About Plato*.

"Just as things in a picture, when viewed from a distance, appear to be all in one and the same condition and alike." From 'Parmenides'.
"Neither family, nor privilege, nor wealth, nor anything but Love can light that beacon which a man must steer by when he sets out to live the better life."
"For once touched by love, everyone becomes a poet."
"I only wish that wisdom were the kind of thing that flowed … from the vessel that was full to the one that was empty." From "The Symposium".

"Plato was the innovator of the written dialogue and dialectic forms in philosophy. Plato appears to have been the founder of Western political philosophy, with his Republic, and Laws among other dialogues, providing some of the earliest extant treatments of political questions from a philosophical perspective. Plato's own most decisive philosophical influences are usually thought to have been Socrates, Parmenides, Heraclitus and Pythagoras, although few of his predecessors' works remain extant and much of what we know about these figures today derives from Plato himself.
The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy describes Plato as "...one of the most dazzling writers in the Western literary tradition and one of the most penetrating, wide-ranging, and influential authors in the history of philosophy. ... He was not the first thinker or writer to whom the word “philosopher” should be applied. But he was so self-conscious about how philosophy should be conceived, and what its scope and ambitions properly are, and he so transformed the intellectual currents with which he grappled, that the subject of philosophy, as it is often conceived—a rigorous and systematic examination of ethical, political, metaphysical, and epistemological issues, armed with a distinctive method—can be called his invention. Few other authors in the history of Western philosophy approximate him in depth and range: perhaps only Aristotle (who studied with him), Aquinas and Kant would be generally agreed to be of the same rank."
"Plato's tripartite theory of soul is a theory of psyche proposed by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato in his treatise the Republic. In Republic, Plato asserted that the ψυχή (psyche) is composed of three parts; the λογιστικόν (logistykon, logical), the θυμοειδές (thymoeides, spirited) and the ἐπιθυμητικόν (epithymetikon, appetitive). These three parts of the ψυχή (psyche) also correspond to the three classes of a society. Whether in a city or an individual, δικαιοσύνη (dikaiosyne, justice) is declared to be the state of the whole in which each part fulfills its function without attempting to interfere in the functions of others. The function of the ἐπιθυμητικόν (epithymetikon, appetitive) is to produce and seek pleasure. The function of the λογιστικός (logistykon, logical) is to gently rule through the love of learning. The function of the θυμοειδές (thymoeides, spirited) is to obey the directions of the λογιστικός (logistykon, logical) while ferociously defending the whole from external invasion and internal disorder. Whether in a city or an individual, ἀδικία (adikia, injustice) is the contrary state of the whole, often taking the specific form in which the spirited listens instead to the appetitive, while they together either ignore the logical entirely or employ it in their pursuits of pleasure."*

"Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays."**

  3. Ce straluciri aparte ai reusit si de data aceasta! Turnul acela in poze arata tare frumos. In realitate nu imi place.

    1. Thank you so very much! urban photography is lovely, indeed! Adding some color is a personal choice, personal perspective; not sure if the result was really the most interesting for everyone, but it is all about being subjective in digital art photography. Thank you once again for your thoughts! A good day, too!

  11. You are so creative with the use of light in your photographs and I enjoy looking at them while listening to the music. My parents met in college as they were both philosophy majors and both went on to get an advanced degree. I grew up listening to them and other college friends talking "philosophy." including Plato.....Michelle

    Have a good new week

By the way: I often think, that would be better to make only one big post for all memes during the week, but than I make again a lot of small posts, for each another. And nobody looks at these all, at the rhythm of colors and sujets of my blog, most look only at a small part - you make that definitely better)

  14. Dear Alexa T - Each landscape including classical architectures and statues is so beautiful bathed in the different light. My favorite image is the 19th in which I see the shadow of you taking photos. Because of the photo, your existence in your world became very real to me, though living so far away from each other.

I’m glad to know you liked what I wrote in your previous post.

  18. Interesting images of your city, Alexa, of the architecture that defines it, and of the activity that fills it. I have always found Plato to be remarkably intriguing, and the little that I studied of his writings in my university philosophy courses, taught me a lot.
