Yesterday I was doing a lot of reading on the porch – the humidity was amazingly low considering all the rain we had the day before – I was still on the porch at 85 degrees and only came in the house as I had other things to do.
I did get 17 blocks done and added up on the wall to the Butterfly Parade – the rows are up there a little slanted but don’t you all wish we had grid design walls available. I think I have seen them somewhere but really they probably cost a bit and I can do without. 81 blocks up here now!!

Still a long way to go before it fills up the wall or even comes close. This will probably end up being baby size. I think I have enough cut for 60 more blocks – maybe 3 more rows in each direction? something like that. I think I will go for a crib size – about 44 x 60? something like that. Right now it is about 36” square (finished size) I am linking to Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict – if you think you might enjoy a Christmas quilt a long that starts in the middle of July check this one out – Sarah has made up a Christmas quilt – 76 inch square and is a hosting a 12 Days of Christmas in July – she will give instructions along the way and today she has the fabric requirements listed and what the pattern looks like. I am also linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts where Amanda Jean shows off a very roomy tote bag.

I rolled Wagon’s West down and the dark sashing near the bottom of the frame is the half way.

I really do not keep up with what the top selling quilting books are as with no quilt shop around I just don’t think about it – what are the top must have’s right now that you all like? Do you have an on line source that shows best sellers? I don’t really “need” a quilt book right now – but I wonder what is really popular must haves in your opinion – just to see what others like.
Loving your projects! Wish we had a break from the heat and humidity! 97 high and probably heat index of 105-110! Not much yard work today! Ha! I don’t buy quilt books anymore as I have a few favorites with projects marked along with some individual patterns and a few kits I liked to keep me busy till the cows come home! I do need to pass on those I don’t utilize- either find some new quilters to give the, to or donate to our local animal shelter thrift store. Any quilters out there that need/want any let me know!
I quit buying books long ago. I very rarely use a pattern, and there are so many free online they there’s no need for me to spend my money on a book or a pattern. I’d rather spend my money on fabric. Ha!
Your Butterfly Parade will make an absolutely adorable baby quilt!
Ohmygosh Karen — I can’t keep up with you! You’ve been so busy while I’ve been off becoming a new Grandma — and lots of progress has been made. Slow down on the Wagon Wheel quilt — I don’t want to see it end LOL. And I’m loving this new little quilt up on your wall – so fun! I don’t usually buy quilting books either but my new obsession is the Quiltmania quilting books — most of them from Australian quilters. I love their quilt styles — a little more challenging than the modern movement sweeping the US now!
Read your blog daily but first time to comment. I am thinking that with a plumb bob you could at least have a nice vertical line to start laying out the squares. You could even make one yourself. Good temporary fix, maybe?
This is such a pretty, summery quilt.
You are really cranking out those little blocks for Butterfly Parade! Love those colors!
That Christmas quilt along is really tempting…I may have to jump in on that one…I was looking for something in my basement earlier this week, and ran across a box of Christmas fabric scraps that I had forgotten about, and they were not with my other scrap boxes for some reason…. I have just started another quilt along for a Gwen Marston inspired medallion style quilt being done over at Humble Quilts, so I need to decide if I really want to have two of these going on at the same time!! We will see! I did go over to Sarah’s blog to take a peek, and it might just be doable….since she won’t be posting anything until July 14th, I have a few days to make up my mind….maybe if I do the quilt along, it will inspire me to get back to my ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas red work quilt that has been set aside for a while….
If I buy a book of any kind it is because I like how the author writes patterns or if it is a Martingale press book I will consider it.. I rarely will buy online without a recommendation from someone… One book in my library that I love is by Luise Roberts .. 1000 great quilting designs… I have sized these small shapes on my printer and made my own templates with the help of this book.. many of my quilt patterns have come from stencils… but many have also come from this book.. so that is my recommendation.. how many books with hand quilting motifs do you have??
I love love love your Butterfly Parade.. it will be a perfect baby quilt! And no more cutting of blocks for you it sounds like.. so you can sew little butterflies until you are done and then start linking them together! I am really enjoying your design wall… I too with my design wall wish I had a grid of some sort.. I will put my blocks up sure they are square with the top/bottom edge.. only to step back and have to tilt my camera to get a shot! lol You are doing much better than me! ha
I just hung out over the pic of Wagons West for a bit. I just love that quilt! So happy this summer project is fun for you 🙂
Have a blessed 4th!! Kathi
Oh that’s coming together beautifully – I love your design wall, it must be so nice to see it all as you make it rather than having to lay it out and scoop it up again!
