Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Meh - that title just sounded good.  We'll probably have tacos or Taco Bell for dinner tonight but we don't "celebrate" - altho a margarita would taste pretty good right about now!
Buddha Rusty

I put Rusty & his belly first because I didn't want the following to be the post thumbnail!

First of all - I survived the annual SAR team Pack Test!
This is the 3rd year we've done this - we're supposed to load up a 25lb pack (more like a pack that identifies as 25lbs - LOL!!) and go hike 1.5 miles just to see how we do.
It sure felt like it took longer than 36 minutes!
I was in a lot better mindset this year.  Last year I thought for sure I was going to drop dead and couldn't hardly make it up the last hill, I didn't want to be there, etc etc.  We were in a different location this time and when it was time to go, I just grabbed my hiking poles and set out.  Even chatted with one of the new guys for a bit, when we passed some "clues" that were staged out in the woods for a class that was going on.  I was kind of concerned about my hips hurting like they have been, but I made sure to take some Aleve before I left home and even my knees did OK.
My only problem is that I thought it was going to be muddy so I wore my new winter boots - so I almost had blisters and my feet were HOT.

Afterward, Sis1 and I went to have some breakfast and then back to her house to change - of course I forgot regular shoes!  So I had to wear my SAR boots, but they were cool and comfortable after those winter boots.   We had seen an event on Facebook for a little antique store not far from her house, so the plan was to do some shopping!  This place had a bunch of neat farmhouse type antiques & decor in their 100 year old barn.  The ladies working there gave us a piece of paper with 5 other places also having sales!  All these little stores / garage sales coordinated to be open on the same day, so we visited them all!
This is the only thing I bought - and it cost me a whopping $4!
It's really about 5 feet tall and will be easy to pin to the ground so it doesn't fall over.

Oh, and for some eye-candy (for me anyway, but I'm weird) while we were in the barn, I could hear some planes outside.  I went to the window and looked out just in time to see 2 A-10 Thunderbolts cruise by!  They're basically a flying machine gun.  Very badass.  I'm 99.9998% sure they're from the Air National Guard base that's almost directly to the east of my house.  We're usually see Chinook helicopters going by, not so much any of the planes stationed there, so it was cool.
Yesterday it was rainy all day, so the little Monsters were going stir-crazy being stuck inside.
So we went for a walk out in the rain!
The soggy flowers were still pretty!

Back in my Easter post, I joked about throwing the grandkids into a dumpster.
We found one!

We have lived in our house for 23-ish years and there's a little diner at the end of our street that has maybe been open 1 of those years in total.  A couple months here, a couple months there, etc.  It's always been closed.  The Spouse got food there once, I never had.  Right next door to it was a sketchy little liquor store that also closed last year.   In early March, there was a banner hanging on the diner that a burger joint was coming soon and an excavator was parked in the lot.  Last week, 2 dumpsters were dropped off next to the diner.  This morning on my way past, there were 2 guys out there and a third dumpster being dropped off.  The Spawn drove by at lunchtime and saw the liquor store was being torn down!  This is the excitement in our town.   Will they also be tearing down the diner or adding on to it?
We want to know!!!
Or we can just watch & find out.

**************************
OMG - Last week I swear I got abducted by aliens or something!
I was at work Tuesday, which is usually a slow day anyway.  I was going piddly stuff, attempting to keep myself busy.  I glanced at the clock in the bottom corner of my monitor.  It was 2pm.  I looked again a couple minutes later (so I thought!) and it was 4:30pm!!  My day ends at 3:30pm!!  No idea what happened.  I'm glad it wasn't a day where I had something going on after work!
2 weeks ago, the Grandson started flag football (that's him in the orange shoes).  It's nice to see him in an activity with kids his physical size!  I just wish the coach would explain things more to the kids - some of them have clearly played before, but those who haven't just kind of stand around looking lost.
This tree in my yard is only pretty in the spring!  It smells so good and the flowers glow in the sunshine. We almost always have a robin's nest every year.   Then the leaves start turning yellow as soon as it gets hot and will drop them starting August.

Adios, for now!

Skywatch Friday 05/02/25

My granddaughter visiting 2 of my sister's horses on a warm & sunny Easter.

The one on the right was fascinated with her!
He must like the smell of little girl & candy.

Happy belated Easter!

Hyacinths smell so good!

How was your weekend?  For the most part, ours was nice.  However, we dinked around and waited until Saturday morning to start getting ready for Easter (held at Sis1's house with dinner ON Saturday) and we had nothing for baskets or anything.  And depending on the route you take, there are not many stores between our house and her's!  Of course we went the few-store route.   At least the Spawn planned ahead so the grandkids were all set.
Yes, our family is one that everyone gets a basket, no matter their age!  Mom even managed to sneak one in for Sis1.
My Easter blowmolds in front of our house.
My grandson can be the biggest turd, but he can also be the sweetest little guy ever.
He left dandelions on my car for me.
Some people insist on coming into work while they sound like they have the plague - so we took some precautionary measures.

And wouldn't you know?  I got food poisoning.  At least that's what I think it was.  I was literally running for the bathroom as soon as I got home last Wednesday.  It was awful so I stayed home Thursday.
The Spouse ordered us a light dinner Thursday night, since my tummy was still iffy.
Love the auto-suggestions my phone gives....

We jumped on the Facebook AI action figure bandwagon.
They're pretty funny!  I got this (after several tries)
I like this one, too...
She is very fabulous - even tho she looks nothing like me!

So, moving onto Easter. Like I said, we screwed around and couldn't find the tote in the garage (which bugs me since it's practically the only tote that is ALWAYS in the same place!!), so we didn't have any of our personal Easter baskets.  I got groceries for our dinner contributions, but didn't get candy so we didn't have Reese's eggs, jelly beans or those yummy malted robins eggs!   Which isn't a big deal since we had no lack of candy, but tradition!!!!  It was also the weekend of the Michigan QSO party on the radio and the Spouse was upset that he left the radio he wanted to use at his buddy's house in Arkansas and didn't want to dig thru all the totes he carries around in the back of his car, etc, etc.  So it started out pretty lousy.  Plus the grandkids being obnoxious (aka kids!) and it was just rough.

We started having dinner on Saturday when the families started expanding and people had multiple places to go.  Dinner was just the 5 of us, Sis1, Mom, Bro1 and niece Lulu.  Then we colored eggs afterward.
The grandson's interpretation of mad/sad me.
Just imagine a 3 year old girl's squeaky little voice...
"Gramma, I'm gonna draw you with a mustache"

I was offended, yet it was too hilarious to be mad!
I'm still going to throw them both into a dumpster.
Leroy the barn kitty had to join in the Easter Egg hunt.

So the kids think that the bunny brings their baskets, because he leaves footprints on the floor (which the grandson figured out smelled like baby powder - darn smart kid!) but they know we hide the eggs.  Papa (the Spouse) went out after breakfast, hid them and then told us what part of the yard to look in (we've got 5 acres to play in).  Then Sis1 hid them in a different area, etc.  So we hid 3 dozen eggs a total of 4 times, just because it's fun!

We also use real eggs in the hunt - and this was a rough year!  The grandson was running with a basketful and tripped - eggs went EVERYWHERE!  The granddaughter just dropped hers in the basket, etc.  Lots of broken ones.
Mine & the Spouse's personalized egg.

Sis1 always likes when I spend the night at her house for family gatherings.  I'll go out & feed the horses breakfast & let them out.
I just like to sit out there, pet the cat and listen to the horses eat.
Peace.

So it's supposed to be up close to 80* today!  I already got some meat to cook on the grill for dinner tonight - can't wait!

Another cute thing the grandson did - he asked the Spawn how to spell my real name, but he was in the kitchen, and she was in the living room so she couldn't see what he was doing.  I found my cup later and couldn't imagine who would put my name on the lid!  That's what he was going, so everyone would know this was my cup (as if the skeletons didn't give it away)!
