Finally came up with a name for the circle quilt with all of it’s “planet” looking circles – The Final Frontier from the Star Trek show of years gone by. Mike’s idea. Linking to Audrey’s Quilty 365 this morning and to Confessions of a Fabric Addict and Fort Worth Studio and Crazy Mom Quilts where Amanda Jean has a lovely scrap quilt she is working on.
212 blocks are now done out of the 365+1 (leap year) and I managed to get them all up on the wall yesterday. I just put them straight on the wall but I have been planning on making these rows diagonal – on point with a dark indigo fossil fern fabric in between in a very narrow sashing. But that was too much work to put them up on the wall and try to get them all on point – I know they would not be up there straight for sure. I had thought to wait before I started to sew them all together until all the blocks are done as I didn’t want to many like colors together, but there are so many colors I do not think that will be a problem – maybe I will get started putting rows together – we will see. It could be the next quilt on the frame at this rate.

I worked on my clam shells also and have them all done and ready to be glue basted! Now maybe I can really get started on these borders?
I was looking at my Diamonds are Forever quilt on the bed the other day and I noticed something – I forgot an area to quilt LOL – this happened once last year I found a small spot on a table topper that had been on the table off and on for several years and all of a sudden noticed a spot that wasn’t quilted – weird how that happens.
Right there! two lines are missing – after I took the photo I got my thread and needle and took care of it right away before I forgot about it.

Your circles are just amazing. I’m doing my quilt with melon shapes and originally thought I wouldn’t put them together until the end of the year. Then I thought of trimming 366 pieces and decided I’d put them together as I went along. Like you, I decided there were enough colors that I shouldn’t worry about how the colors sat next to each other. I look forward to seeing how your quilt turns out.

Love the Final Frontier quilt. It does look like the universe. Great job. That little oversight on your hexie quilt is a stressful for me. I have a big hexie (not yet finished) and when I think about quilting it, I can see myself do that many times over. I mean, there so many of hexies, how to keep track? I know it’s not the end of the world but still …

I am glad to know that I am not the only one to find a place that didn’t get quilted! But it is an easy fix, so not to worry….

I want to do a Fossil fern project with my squares as well, do you mind me using yours for inspiration? I was wondering if you will trim the zigzag zag edges off or sew them as they are? Also, did you wash the squares first? I have 3 sets of squares with a lot of miscellaneous yardage so am pretty sure I have enough. LOL

I love the way the fossil fern Final Frontier project is turning out. So many colors and they all play so well together. It’s going to be a bright and cheery quilt. I’m working on melon shapes in lots of scrappy colors on 6″ cream squares – that’s my ongoing hand project and who knows where it will take me. Maybe just a table runner, maybe a quilt. LOL! Good work keeping up with all your projects!
This is really one of the most interesting and creative versions of this project I’ve seen. I look forward to seeing it finished.
