On this visit,I picked up an old photo album in one of the antique stores... for 2 dollars. I glanced at it briefly before buying it, but I really just wanted it for the way the cover looked...old, used, and tired (funny, that's the way I feel today) Anyway, I got it home and placed it on a little side table off in the corner of the room and there it stayed.

One day while I was dusting, I decided to sit a spell and check out my old book.

This old album was a treasure. I guess it was in an estate sale at some point and made it's way into that little antique store in Micanopy. I sat for hours looking at all of the pictures, just trying to imagine who this family was and how anyone could part with all of these family photos. Vivian, (that you see above on her 1934 wedding day) is all throughout the book. Some photos date back to 1917. I'm not sure how old the album is, but I do know that it's very fragile. I also know that someone took great care in pasting in the photos and adding captions.

Some of the pictures have come loose, so I've been able to read little notes that have been added to the back of them. It's very interesting. One of the pictures has a stamp that reads VanSickle and Bone Commercial and Portriat Photographers -Phone 927- Gainesville, Florida -1927. It's a Christmas photo of (I believe) Vivian's family. I looked up VanSickle and Bone photographers and the University of Florida has quite a collection of Mr. E.H. Bone's work. I'm thinking I may donate this album to the University.
I think.

These people have become like part of my family...I'm not sure if I can give them up!
I'm sharing this story over at Debbie's Garage Salen Party!

HI HOLLY!!~ So nice to see you, it has been a while. Hope you enjoyed your summer. It was a busy one for us. Love that album.....I can't understand how people disgard these family memories. You will cherish it and enjoy it so at least it came ato a good home. Of course when your kids get older they will say who are these people lol!!~ Thanks for joining in. Debbie
That is so nice that you have kept the album and become attached to it. I find it sad that someone would have sold that at an estate sale in the first place, but at least now it's in a happy place!
Great photos, even better that you appreciate them.
Hopped over from Debbiedoos! Such a great find, it really is interesting to try and research things like this!
What a neat find!I think it's really neat that you are going to donate it so that others can enjoy it too.
I often wonder about the previous owners when I find little treasures.
It's good to have you back. We missed you.

Hi, I'm visiting from Debbie's Garage Salen party. What wonderful old photos, and what fun to look at the clothing and the hairdos, and imagine what life was like for Vivian and her friends. Who needs movies when you have an old album, no matter whose family it's from.
What a great find! How could anyone give away precious family photos!
If you know Vivian's last name, you could post over at ancestry.com. They have surname message boards and a found heirlooms message board too.
I love the picture of the people in their bathing suits-it's sad that someone in the family didn't want to keep it-but nice that you treasure it!
Trying to blog alittle, and playing catch up...I am alot rusty at this blogn' thang.
I added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower if you want to.
God Bless You ~Ron

Maybe you can just adopt them for our family reunion. After all what is a little DNA or not between family members?
Love you
Mama
