REVIEW: WHAT SHE KNEW BY GILLY MACMILLAN

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Gilly Macmillan knows how to keep the tension going. In what she knew, a parent’s fears are realized with the abduction of a child in that few seconds when a child is out of the parent’s sight. This was even worse because the mother had given permission for her son to run ahead in an effort to grant him a bit more freedom. Of course, the media and the public blame her for her son’s disappearance. What kind of mother doesn’t watch her own son?
The tension was kept at an extreme high throughout the entire book. This was one of those books I was afraid to finish because I was terrified that something horrible had happened, but of course I had to finish to see if something horrible had happened.
The writing was exquisite, the fear and hopelessness the main character felt was palpable. This was an excellent debut by an extraordinary author. Expect great things to come.
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
