Hands 2 Help

Thank you everyone for your compliments and congratulations on the Dear Jane quilt yesterday I do appreciate it but there were too many thank everyone individually – Thank you!!

Every year Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict has a big drive for charity quilts.  This year 3 charities were chosen and the quilter picks out which (or all) that they wish to donate to.  I picked Layers of Hope-Quilting 911 – donation of quilts go to the 911 operators and members of their families that are sick.  Sometimes I think we forget that a lot of 911 operators have a job that is very stressful and help us all a great deal in our times of need!  This is one way to pay them back.

I worked on these two scrap quilts late last year and early this year and put them aside for this charity.  They are both child size quilts.

I have managed to get quite of a bit of progress on Winter Wonderland the last week – 5 minutes of stitching here and there and my two small blocks were finished.  Here they are added to the design floor – I have two more to do that go across the top – both are long.  When the blocks are all connected they show some decorative stitching that separates the blocks – I am thinking of doing that part with the sewing machine and red thread.  I am linking to Super Mom No Cape’s link for projects with embroidery.  I am also linking to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching which I forgot to do yesterday.

I didn’t even notice until after I took these photos that the last two blocks I did I hadn’t reversed when I traced them – good thing it really doesn’t make a difference in the design – because I’m not making them over again!

Also this last week I had been working on Granny’s Got Style and hadn’t posted photos of it this past weekend –  these are in the 4th row of blocks.

I hope to get back to the tumblers this week but I also plan to finally get to work varnishing the walls & trim of the dinning room that were not finished in the winter as it was too chilly to have the windows open to air the house out – then it got too rainy – now it will probably be humid but between having windows open part of the time and A/C running the other I hope to get this work done in the dining room and kitchen over the next couple weeks starting with the dining room.  I will not work for hours and hours at it or my neck muscles will tense up too much so I will still be sewing and quilting too.  I do hope to have it done over the next several weeks.

Good luck with the varnishing. Good choice to take it slow … it won’t seem so overwhelming, AND your neck will thank you, I’m sure. 😉

I don’t blame you … I wouldn’t re-do those two blocks either … I had to look hard to see which ones were reversed, even with the two side by side.

Oh every time I see your hand quilting it makes me want to set up my frame and get to it. I am headed on a quilting retreat and upon my return that is what I want to do! Your quilting is beautiful!!!

The quilts you made for charity are lovely! Someone is going to feel the love that went into making them when they wrap up in them.Your Redwork snowmen blocks are really coming along beautifully! I hadn\’t even noticed the reversed blocks until you mentioned it and then I had to go back and compare each block to figure out which ones they were. Thanks so much for linking up to this week\’s Stitchery Link Party and for linking back!

Your embroidery and quilting are beautiful!
Does your blue marker dissolve with air exposure, or do you spritz it with water?

I love what you’ve made and the embroidery. Lovely to see what everyone has donated!

I have loved these two scrappy quilts since the first time I saw them! I am not sure how, but I totally missed (or else I don’t remember) the rounded corners on the checkerboard quilt.
Winter Wonderland blocks are coming along! You will be ready to start the pieced blocks in no time!
And you know I always enjoy seeing the quilting progress on Granny’s Got Style!

I had to really study the pattern picture to see what you meant about not reversing the shapes. The blocks are beautiful and it surely does not take anything away from your block.

Whomever receives your two quilts will have treasures. Charity quilting brings as much pleasure to the giver as it does to the person receiving it. I’ve also donated quilts and it makes me feel good.
