Tuesday involved a lot of outside work once again with a little bit of sewing thrown in on breaks. I think I spent just about the whole day outside.
Now I can say my garden is done and probably over planted at that – but I will thin things out if need be. Now that everything is in it and some have started to grow already I needed to water things last night as the top layer was damp but nothing more than a quarter inch deep or so. I gave it a good soaking last night and then I won’t need to again for awhile as we do have some rain chances in the forecast.

I also needed to dig up this area close to the house and I will be planting some flower seeds in it, I do have two tomato plants up here and there are some potatoes in here also. I almost finished this area before I got side tracked from a text from my brother telling me he was on his way over with some fresh eggs from his farm – I never did get back to this spot and it is almost done.

On a break time I got the toboggan snowmen done – except for the 10 or whatever amount of snowflakes that is – so it isn’t done yet.

I was busy repotting house plants and ferns for the porch as well.

This is the Christmas cactus that I brought home from my mothers apartment when we cleaned it out after she died in October – it has grown quite a bit since then and hopefully it will make it – it was rather pitiful when I brought it home. The plant above was one of the plants sent to her funeral. It too has grown a lot.

And here is where I spend a lot of time in the warm weather months – a breeze flows through here most days and it stays shady the whole day.

The lizards are out playing around – this one is lounging on a blue tarp that is covering firewood, when I was outside last night planting the last of the things in the garden I could hear something rustling around and thought maybe I heard a rabbit, but didn’t see any – then heard a noise again and spotted the lizard – I had seen a turtle crawling through the yard earlier – you know it is warm weather season you see these little critters. This guy here is not very big – maybe 6 inches counting the tail.

I was in the house several times and one time took an hour break LOL and put together 10 rows of tumblers. I am linking to Sew Fresh Quilts today and Freshly Pieced.

They are pressed and ready to be put together today – not sure when or if I will though – as I have a dentist appointment this morning to take care of a cavity and have no idea how I will feel after that! I have a small mouth so the dentist tells me and also have jaw problems – my mouth is usually pretty sore by time I get done and I will have a headache for sure.

This part done on Granny from Monday night. I am linking to My Quilt Infatuation also

And worked on this section last night – this is the end of the 2 row of Granny blocks – there are six total. I hope I finished this section and ready to turn it down again.

I think our schedules mimic each other a lot! Ha! In and out from outside! We, too, have been working in the yards with this wonderful weather in Alabama and it will continue until next week- which will be good with our oldest grandson graduating college Friday and oldest granddaughter Saturday! Can’t wait to see the hard work you put in your garden come to fruition!
Everytime I see Granny I think that I’d like to make one. I made a small table runner with those blocks a few years ago. But your quilting is so wonderful…just love her! : )
I planted some things yesterday. Generally do NOT do so until the end of May as we could still have frost but our Mays have been quite warm for the last two years and the ten day forecast shows it will be so. Well if nothing else, I’ll be running out with blankets should it cool down later in the month 🙂
Making these for a bee quilt, love your colors and quilting
You have certainly been hard at work! How nice that the weather has been cooperating for getting your yard work done – the gardens look lovely. Hope you will share a photo of your Christmas cactus when it flowers. It looks quite healthy now. I adore your shady sitting area on the porch. It looks so inviting!
Your Christmas cactus looks really good. I see it is the rounded leaf variety. My mother-in-law’s plant is like that. I have mostly the multi-pointed leaf ones and they seem to bloom more often.
Lovely work on the quilt, both the blocks, and the quilting!
Karen you have been one very busy girl! I always love your sewing and it is fun to see your gardening too. The nice thing about raised beds (aside from saving your back) is that you can plant them up rather densely.) Your yard looks like a bit of heaven on earth. Especially the porch and it is so good that you could help your mom’s cactus flourish again. Hope you recover from the dentist visit very quickly!
What a nice porch! It looks really cozy and it’s so nice there’s a breeze. I thought I’d miss the veg garden but I now have a CSA and get better veg than I could grow myself. And earlier, too. Thing is, when I go to the farmers market to pick stuff up, I usually buy goodies, meat and eggs at other stalls. It’s fun, though
Your Granny quilt is really coming along!
Do you square foot garden? We have for 40 years and love it.
Question on your quilting. It looks like you are doing a “rope” type of quilting in the sashing. Is there a trick to do it in a continual line sort of stitching by hand? I love the look and use it in some hand quilting, but I always have trouble figuring out a way to do it without have to ‘cross over’.
I haven’t read blogs in a few months and have been reading forward on yours from middle of November (I love reading yours and started catching up with it first). Not commenting as I go since they are not current, but decided to peek forward to your post today lol.
Your cactus is looking good now. You will have a lot of blooms from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Keep it out of the light at night when little buds start to form on the bracts an keep it watered. Wonder what color it is? Probably some shade of red the way it has recovered. Yellow and purple are not as hardy, white will turn pink over time.
I really envy all your progress. I finally started to copy the snowman patterns. Now to draw them. I play too much on the Internet!!!

I would love the pattern for Granny quilt. Also do you have instructions for BOM hexies on how to put them on the square? I’ve written before but somehow haven gotten an answer or I don’t know where to look. Love your hexies. Also I thought I ordered the LOVE Hexies magazine but couldn’t download it.???
You have a beautiful place!
Your Granny Squares is looking beautiful too.
Barbara here is a site with instructions for the Granny quilt http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2012/07/great-granny-along-and-giveaway.html
also I haven’t a clue what you are talking about for the Love Hexies magazine, I haven’t anything to do with a magazine and have not heard of it nor a BOM for the hexies – I think you might have my blog mixed up with someone else?
I love the garden boxes. I too love my time outside and I cut broccoli today and we are just about to deplete the Romaine Lettuce. Sewing often stops to feel the dirt.
I love the glimpses you give us into your world. I have started a granny squared as you have inspired me… I love, love your quilting and hope to emulate it. Thanks for sharing love Sue from the UK xx
Everything looking wonderful, from your gardening to your quilting, stitching projects. Our vegetable seeds are almost all planted. That’s hubby’s project, I do the picking and weeding. I might be alone here, but I do like weeding the gardens. Do my sewing in the early morning and in the evening when the weather is just too nice to be indoors.
I love your porch! What a restful spot. I love to sit out on our deck, but because our subdivision is new, we don’t have enough shade trees (yet) to provide shade (we have a roof on our deck, but later in the day, the sun is low enough to shine in on us).
