Quilts and Plants

A sunny day for a change – one day anyhow – it was nice yesterday walking around the yard looking at the plants.  The Lily of the Valley’s are coming up all over the place.   Such sweet little flowers – I love the scent.

Wild Violets that grow all over the place.

Does anyone recognize this tree and know what it is?  The trees were not here on this land when we moved here 34 years ago.   In fact I never even noticed these trees (we have about 10 of them now growing) until about 5 years ago when they had grown enough to catch my eye.  They do not have fruit of any sort on them – these are just the spring time blossoms (seeds?) that so many trees have.

008

Here is a close up of the bark – it is such a pretty tree.  Like I say we have a lot of them growing now, some are quite small and then there are 3 of them that have gotten very tall – fast growers for sure whatever they are.  The blossoms will all be falling off soon.  I just wonder what they are?

Work on Granny from Wednesday night, I finished the first row of blocks.  Someone had said I was really moving along on this quilt – actually – not – there are 6 rows of Granny blocks and this is just the finish of row one and the first border and over 35 hours of quilting in it already.  I started it about 6 weeks ago.  I figure I will be working on this one all summer and into fall.  I am linking to A Quilting Readers Garden and Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  And one more – Crazy Mom Quilts.

I rolled it down yesterday morning and worked for an hour on it.

Melanie was over for supper last night and continuing on our series Outlander that we are watching – this is the work she brought with her that I showed last week, she has made a lot of progress on it.  Melanie started a new job last month and is working for the local library and is with the bookmobile – she loves this job and she and another worker travel 3 days a week to various parts of the county – a library on wheels so to speak.  She fills us in on what little towns she has visited in our county, some of them have nothing more than a gas station/grocery store combination so the people are very grateful for the library to come to them.

I got two more Lemoyne Stars done yesterday – I kind of move them around the wall now and then so I don’t have one color next to each other, but there are so many similar colors I’m sure some of them look the same anyhow.  A third of the way done – I have another that is part way put together and that will make 30 out of 90.

I sat on the porch reading yesterday – yes it was warm enough for that!  And so far the bugs are not vicious – I have barely noticed them so far – I’m not fooled though – I know that all of a sudden the vicious little bugs will be attacking me.

Awww, look at those beautiful little flowers. And I would surely think you’d be working on Granny all summer — that’s a LOT of quilting!!! Have a great weekend!

It’s a really pretty tree whatever it is!

We are having sunshine and warm weather here today too! So thankful since it has been rainy and dreary for the last two weeks! Although we had a small library in the little town where I grew up, we had a bookmobile that came once or twice a month! I loved checking out books and especially record albums (that tells you how old I am) from it! I would love working for the bookmobile!!! Great memories!!!

As the saying goes, “slow and steady wins the race.” I do like those star blocks. What size are they?

It could be a fringe tree I know they grow in Arkansas but really don’t know much about them. Maybe you can get an online photo and compare. Looks like you are staying busy between the outdoors and indoor. I changed my sewing table around this am, I do every spring. So I can see the garden and bird feeders while I sit at the machine.

Love all the natural blossoms your yard gets! Don’t know what kind of tree it is but love the blooms it produces for sure! Loving your progress and your dd’s cross stitch is coming along nicely.. I am glad you two get together regularly to enjoy tv,chat, and handwork 🙂 Kathi

Hi Karen, your trees are sure a lot different from our rainforest and tropical palms LOL. But I love love that bark, how wonderful to see that as a piece of fabric. Hugs Glenda

Bookmobiles are a wonderful service for small communities. One ran here when the girls were younger and we (including myself) loved it.
Whatever the tree is called, it does have pretty blooms and bark.

I’m curious, too, what kind of tree that is … certainly a pretty one. You’re making fabulous progress … I love following along with all your projects.

Karen, the tree might be a wisteria….the ones I have seen have had lilac colored blooms, but I did a search, and they can have white blooms as well….Google wisteria and see what you think….if that is not what your tree is, and you do find out the name, let us know….

I was looking at the comments to see if anyone knew the tree name for sure. It’s gorgeous.
