Quilting and Piecing

Yesterday I got a bit more done on Ciera’s quilt “Nancy’s Stars” it is coming along pretty good.  I have all the sashing parts straight line quilted and got started on the stars – 15 more stars to go LOL – I would have tried to get more of the stars quilted but I had an eye doctor appointment in the middle of the afternoon and this place is so slow I always know I will be there for at least two hours and it was close – then with the eyes dilated I knew I won’t get back to the sewing machine so I set it aside until today.  I am linking to A Quilting Reader’s Garden today and Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  I am also linking to Amanda Jean’s Crazy Mom Quilts you should go see all the cute bags she has been making – making me think of making some myself for my upcoming trip next month to keep the suitcase neat and the carry on with projects.

The back – this is going to be a soft cuddly quilt – it is not going to have any more quilting in it then what you see in this section – no fillers – that is just not the way I do it.

Last night I took a evening off of the Kansas Twister hand quilting as I was watching Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal – I do that in the living room so I spent some time hand piecing the little Lemoyne Stars they are growing – 11 out of 40 done.  I’m not really sure what I am doing with these when done – what setting I mean – sashing? on point? who knows I will decide when I am done with them – and yes they are all cut and it is just 40 – I had a set of charm squares and I used them all up – I think I had 3 bundles of them? some thing like that.

Less is more sometimes, especially if we want a soft, cuddly quilt. Besides, as I’ve said before, I’m not a fan of overquilted quilts in general.

Ooops, I forgot to mention how well your quilting looks on Ciera’s Stars … it’s going to be perfect!

I have a Lemoyne Star quilt on my to-do list. Probably hand pieced because of that pesky Y. So many quilts, so little time.

Your star quilts are looking so pretty. I love the simple quilting on the first one. It does look nice and cuddly.

Your machine quilting looks great! Love the way the outlining made the stars pop!

Soft and cuddly sounds wonderful 🙂

Visiting from Finish it up Friday. Nice stars. I’ve done LeMoyne Stars on the machine, but hand piecing is relaxing. Machine piecing is not. Nice color choice on both quilts.

Ciera’s quilt is turning out great. I like the more puffy quilting that you get by not putting too much in. I love those Lemoyne Stars, too – purple!

I’m sure you have told us, but what size are your Lemoyne stars? Are you using anything specific to make them, a template, paper piecing? Love how your quilting is coming along. When I machine quilt, less is always best for me. I am just happy when it is done as it is not my favorite thing to do. I try not to stress over whether it is perfect.

I like both of the star quilts. Hard to say if I like one more than the other!

Lovely stars, lovely quilting. Now why do quilters quilt every inch of their quilts? I don’t understand. I read somewhere that in the olden days they were quilted so close to trap in the heat, but never has seen that quoted elsewhere. If you set those lovely stars on point you’ll have a bigger quilt if that’s what you want. Look forward to seeing what you do with them.
