Needlework: February Valentine's Flag

February brings Valentines to mind and the sentiment I sewed onto this flag is a nod to the Necco candy hearts we have all enjoyed over the years. Click here to read about the history of Valentine's Day.

Needlework: Valentine Basket

Please join my list of Linky and Google friends when you visit my blog!
Thanks!
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY !!
This little basket is a perfect container for a Valentine's gift of Hershey Kisses.  I made these baskets as table favors for a Valentine's dinner.

I adjusted the pattern after row 7 (36 sts.) by continuing to work in the round, but without increasing, for 5 addtional rows.  I then slipstitched twice around the top edge before adding the handle.

Table Settings: Valentine's Day Table

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY !
The table is set for a casual lunch on Valentine's Day, complete with a little favor bag of Hershey's Kisses for each guest which is closed with a
Valentine pin. The little chalkboard place cards are a set I purchased
years ago at Crate & Barrel.
After purchasing red carnations and baby's breath I added greens from the yard to the chalkboard painted vase which served as the table centerpiece.

Needlework: Valentine Bear Hat

I found this adorable Bear Hat pattern and decided to add Valentine pins to it for the holiday.  The heart pins in two sizes can be found here and are, of course, detachable.  I did run into the pattern being a bit small for an 18 month old so continued to increase stitches up to 50 but could have added even more.  I also crocheted additional rows.
In the photo above I added the larger crocheted hearts on the ear flaps which can also be removed after the holiday.

Crafts: Felt "Valentine" Flower Pins

These adorable  felt valentine rosettes were suggested by TidyMom.  You can find the full step by step instructions on her excellent blog.
I managed to get 9 three inch circles out of the 9x12 felt square which I purchased at ACMoore along with the jewelry pin backs. With the small amounts of felt left over, I made a couple of 1  1/4 inch flowers.  These are quite easy to make and work up quickly.  Such a cute idea!
[ I did find the red can rub off onto other fabric so be aware when you are pinning them onto other clothing.  I am spraying the backs with some hair spray which I think will prevent this.]
