68 degrees for a high the last day of July! it set another record. Cloudy rainy day, I actually had my light cardigan on and off today with all the windows wide open! We have been saving on the A/C this year. Any of my readers know what kind of weather Wyoming, Montana and the Dakota’s are having? Linking up to Confessions of a fabric Addict and Lily’s Quilts today and then run on over and see some hexies at A Quilter’s Readers Garden.
Yesterday I worked on my Diamonds are Forever in between other things– getting so close to an end (except the border that is) that I just want it to be done! The last two rows that I have worked on are just laying there – for some reason I just wanted to keep on doing the rows instead of attaching to the quilt one more short row of 2 diamonds and then a corner of white hexies. Can’t believe it is coming to an end! 90 inches across – 80 inches long – these might be a little off as I have not pressed most of it – I was doing a good job of pressing as I went and then I fell off the pressing wagon and now I will have a heck of a job later pressing all of those seam – my bad. I am still not sure about a border – I would like the quilt to be at least close to 100 x 100 so it fits a deep queen mattress well.

This much done on Insanity Revisited Wednesday night. Someone wanted to know if I had enlarge the blocks on Dear Jane – no they are the standard 4.5 inches, I do close ups photos of the blocks though so that is why they look larger.

Mike ordered new covers for our Kindles that we got last month as the old covers didn’t fit – these are smaller than the old ones are. But seeing as they are exactly the same made out of felt wool I believe, I thought I would add a little embroidery to mine – two blue flowers and don’t know if you can see – I should have chosen a different color – I did a button hole stitch in dark purple on the flap over. But this way if they end up on the same table right next to each other I will be able to easily spot which is mine!

Chocolate Chip Cookies were made seeing as the windows were open, fans were on and the house didn’t even go up one degree! So nice!! A little more was brought out to the camper – progress being made! I will be skipping quilting group once again in the morning – too much to do – I told one of the ladies a couple weeks ago – sorry I have been missing this past month – just busy doing other things. We will see when we get back if I want to go back to attending – it just hasn’t been a really good fit for me this past couple years and I find myself bored with it – I might be dropping out of this group permanently. Some of you speak so highly of your quilting groups and they sound like so much fun but the ones I have found here (3 of them) just haven’t quite done it for me –
pretty little embroidery touch there!
This cooler weather has been amazing…the other day I was thinking ” OMG I CAN BAKE A POTATO IN THE OVEN! ” Funny what little things can make you extremely happy, huh:)
Your hexi quilt is beautiful! Are you sewing it all by hand? Can’t imagine the time involved. Great work!
I am enjoying seeing the quilting progress of the Dear Jane, keep going!
You are not alone in your guild experience.
Haha you are playing with Diamonds like I would be doing! I thought it was wider than tall. It would be pretty with a nice appliqué header that would lay on your pillows. So many opportunities there!
Your diamond quilt is beautiful. I can easily understand you are eager to finish it! Not much left! Great progress on IR and the embroidery on your Kindle cover is nice.
Adorable little Kindle covers! I love how you personalized yours.
I’ve joined a new guild … everyone seemed so welcoming and friendly. I’ve only been to two meetings, so I’m still trying to get a feel for whether it will be a good fit. I am used to guilds that offer interesting speakers at their meetings who also conduct workshops the next day (unfortunately one guild was so large that I never could make a connection and the other was very cliquish). This guild has monthly meetings but there’s nothing “special” about them, but it’s a small guild so those kinds of events are probably not in their budget. However, do they host a couple of retreats each year and every other year, they do bring in a couple of nationally-known speakers to conduct a workshop … 2015 is the next year, and Pat Speth and Mickey Depre will be the speakers. I’m certainly looking forward to that weekend, so I’m willing to give this new guild a try.
I don’t belong to a guild Karen… I find my guild activities and interests fed via fb groups and blogs like yours… I like hearing other stuff too and remaining global in the friends I have found through blogging and facebook that are now my “quilty friends”. Being home full time can be lonely.. but quilting seems to take that all away.. we can all speak a common language too! Love your kindle covers… I can tell your hubby picked them and I like how you personalized yours for easy to see differences 🙂 Will you be able to read on your kindle while camping? Do you need wi fi to read? I don’t know how they really work I guess. lol!

I chuckled when I read the part about pressing the hexies. I’m having the same problem on my trip around the world. I’m dreading the end when it will probably take me a week to press it. I was going to stop and press as I go, but I figured it would just get wrinkled while I’m working on it so I didn’t. I guess it’s just the price to pay.
Also, I think it’s hard to join already established quilting groups. They’ve already established a rapport, etc. They’re overrated anyway LOL!
Your Diamonds are terrific — and what an accomplishment!!
Hi Karen! I think you’re having a cooler summer here in Valencia (Spain) is quite hot (this afternoon temperature was 37ºC/98.5ºF) and so humid you spend most of the day sweating. Air conditioning is a must anywhere you go. The best moment of the day my aquagym class, summer!!
Hi Karen – I’m in Pinedale, Wyoming. It’s been beautiful here – mid 70’s most days, cooler at night – in the 50’s to low 60’s. We did have a really cold night a few nights ago 41 degrees, (I froze all night, but refused to turn the heat on in July – ha). It has warmed back up now, but we’re headed into fall very soon. Definitely pack a warmer coat. We’ve been cooler than average, and having the typical cold, windy afternoon rain storms. Oh and most of Wyoming is a bit warmer – we’re at 7,200 feet elevation, (77 miles southeast of Jackson Hole) so we do tend to be cooler. Enjoy your trip!
Re: Diamonds are forever – I think that quilt is screaming for an applique border of stems and flowers. Something simple would really pop, elaborate would be too much. I’ve done plenty of applique, but tend to sidestep that technique these days when I can.
Re: Red and White DJ, in above photo, some of the threads look white, are they all red and my computer is deceiving me?
Are your hexies 2-1/2″ for this quilt?
Your hexi quilt is almost done, good for you. Lucky girl 🙂 I N V U!! I wish mine was closer to the finishing line. I’m not into it lately and I’ve seen another hexi quilt I want to do so… yea I know you understand. 🙂 Insanity Revisited is soooo beautiful. Love it. I’ve never joined a sewing or quilting group but it sounds like so much fun from all the comments on the blogs. Sorry it doesn’t work out for you. Happy sewing.
