God's Word Is..... (Part #3)

SundayGodsWord3

God's Word Is...... (Part #3)

Today will be the final part in this short series on God's word.  We first learned that God's word is inside of us (click HERE to view that post), and last week we learned the "Dos & Don'ts" of God's word (click HERE to view).  And now we will learn the many, many details of what God's word is.

God's word is.....
- eternal (will never pass away)
- stored in heaven
- the beginning
- light
- joy
- flawless
- the Sword of the Spirit
- living & active
- like fire
- fulfilled (it will finish what God wants it to do)
- life
- truth:

God's word is ETERNAL

God's word is STORED IN HEAVEN

A few years ago we studied Psalm 119 and the Hebrew alphabet - the letter "Lamedh" details how God's word is stored in heaven (click HERE to read "Psalm 119 - LAMEDH")

God's word is the BEGINNING

God's word is LIVING & ACTIVE

"For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;  it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12

God's word is LIKE FIRE

"Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?"
Jeremiah 23:29

God's word is FULFILLED (IT WILL FINISH WHAT GOD WANTS IT TO DO)

3 Simple Ways To Use Homegrown Chestnut Mushrooms

3 Simple Ways to Use Homegrown Chestnut Mushrooms

Last week I shared with you pictures of my bumper Chestnut mushroom crop.  This was my first time trying this variety of mushroom and I found three delicious ways to use them. (click HERE to view the Chestnut Mushroom post).

Adding to Pasta Sauce

unnamed (39)

I began by chopping half of an onion.  Then, in a little olive oil (in a medium size frying pan) I sauteed the chopped onion with 2 cups of the Chestnut mushrooms for about 4 minutes.  Now, pour the sauteed mushrooms & onion into pasta sauce and warm.  Pour over your favorite pasta & ENJOY!

In a "Scramblette"

unnamed (38)

A "scramblette" is a scrambled omelette (click HERE to view how to make a Scramblette).  In this simple scramblette I added 2 cups of Chestnut mushrooms and half of a chopped, sauteed onion.  Final touch is to sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top & ENJOY!

Mushroom Gravy Over a "Yooper" Pasty
(Meat Pie)

Finally, my favorite is to make my mushroom gravy recipe (click HERE to view) using Chestnut mushrooms and pour over homemade "Yooper" (somebody from the Upper Penninsula Michigan) pasty (recipe which I have not shared on this blog yet).

The Chestnut mushroom keeps it's firm texture even when cooked for a while and has a delicate nutty flavor.  ENJOY!

God's Word #2 - Dos & Don'ts

SundayGodsWord2

God's Word #2 - Dos & Don'ts

We are taking a one month break from our regular multiple Sunday series to do a three part study on God's Word.  Last week we focused on "God's Word Is In Our Heart" (click HERE to view)  Today we are going through the "dos & don'ts" of God's Word.

We will begin with the "dos."  There are two:
- Speak God's word
- Put God's word into action

SundayGodsWord2a

Both verses above show how amazing it is to be guided by God even in our speech.  There have been many times when sitting down to type my Sunday post I suddenly start typing something different than I had originally planned.  In these instances I felt guided by the Holy Spirit to change my topic (this month included).  I don't know why but I obey those guiding urgings from the Holy Spirit anyway.  Maybe somebody needed to hear that topic on that exact date - only God knows.

Just as important is doing what God's word says.  Often it is only our actions that strangers see and through our actions might be saved because they saw Jesus in our works.  Our actions can be a much more powerful witness to others - so much more obvious than our words (see verses below).

SundayGodsWord2b

Then there are three "don'ts":
- Do Not take away or add to God's word
- Do Not distort God's word
- Do Not peddle God's word

SundayGodsWord2c

The message or meaning can be so incredibly changed just by taking away a word.  Equally, the meaning can be changed by adding a word. (see verses above).

Also, distorting God's word is a"don't" and a form of deception.  Maybe twisting the context or manipulating the timeframe are examples of distorting God's word. (see verses below)

SundayGodsWord2d

Finally, this is probably the most important of the "don'ts" - do not peddle or profit for personal gain from God's word. (read Scripture below)

Remember, Jesus turned over the tables of people selling and profiting during church and on the tabernacle grounds.  They were not profiting from God's word but rather on God's property and that was enough to cause Jesus to show "righteous anger."  (read Matthew 21:12-13 &/or Mark 11:15-18)

SundayGodsWord2e

This is going to be the most difficult information for many to accept (I know that I was shocked and hurt when I realized the truth about many season pastors/ministers).
I have always felt uncomfortable when popular televangelists are constantly pushing their newest book or video series.  Yes, I'm sure that some of the profits from selling that merchandise goes back into the ministry but even that caused more uncomfortable feelings.

I'm going to list some of these televangelists and their net worth (a few of these I followed for years - noticed past tense)(These net worth figures are from online research - either 2023 or 2024):
Kenneth Copeland - $760 million
Pat Robertson - $100 million
Joel Osteen - $100 million
David Jeremiah - $50 million
Rick Warren - $25 million
Franklin Graham - $10 million
Joyce Meyer - $8 million
John Hagee - $5 million

Recently, I was watching something on TV (I think it was something political) and Franklin Graham was introduced as the CEO of his ministry instead of as the pastor.  That's horrible.  These "ministries" are corporations and no longer true callings from God.  I can't help but wonder how many of the people giving to these "ministries" didn't have enough money for their next meal?
This is true peddling of God's word!

Let's speak & act God's word everyday so that we will have the wisdom to never distort, or peddle His word.

Homegrown Chestnut Mushrooms

unnamed (14)

Homegrown Chestnut Mushrooms

Every year (since I started growing mushrooms), I have tried growing a new variety.  This year that new variety is called:  "Chestnut".  Actually, I just harvested them today so I haven't eaten them yet - I will have to reveal what I thought of them in a future post.

You will see that I took way too many pictures of this type of mushroom but they were just so cute.  I show the very beginning when the mushrooms just started "pinning" and then I took you all they way through to harvest.

Previously featured homegrown mushroom varieties:
Snow Oyster
Pink Oyster
Morel (wild, grown outside)
Golden Oyster
Lion's Mane
Italian Oyster
Blue Oyster
Black King Oyster
Wine Cap (grown outside)
Shiitake

(If you want to grow your own mushrooms click HERE for mushroom supplies )
