Yesterday was one of those gully washer days. We received 3.5 inches of rain in 30 minutes!! Talk about water running down hill from our road, past our house and through the yard down through the woods to wherever it goes from here!! Standing water in the yard for several days to come I’m sure. And to top it all off lightening hit close to the house taking the power out – as I write this I am hooked up to the phone for internet, the generator is running for some lights and the refrigerator thankfully it didn’t heat back up and it is 70 degrees outside and we have all the windows open. The power went out around 2:30 and as I write this last night at 7:15 we are still without power – I hope I will wake up in the morning to find it is back one. So far we know from the lightening strike that we lost the wireless modem, a blueray player, and a dish network receiver (all were wired internet ). Wonder if we will discover more when the power comes back on. We have to wait our turn – we are the only ones here who lost there power and that was from the lightening –it looks like a small town north of us lost power to the whole town and other areas as well.

All that muck and old leaves washed out from the top of the yard too woodsy to rake-down to the middle of the yard – some standing water, but I was able to walk over to the plants and check and see if anything washed out of the tree planters – nothing did – and I didn’t sink – the water rushed through so fast I wish I would have grabbed my camera for a photo but was too busy jumping and twitching from the lightening and thunder – made me nervous!

While sitting around waiting for the power to come back on I worked on some diamonds. I am linking to Sarah’s Confessions of a Fabric Addict today

Earlier in the day before the storm I got two more 16 patch blocks done and up on the wall

And Wednesday night I got more hand quilting done on Insanity Revisited = and I have a light set up at the quilting frame so I can quilt while waiting for the power to come back on – or if it doesn’t I will go to bed and read! So glad the night is not too hot and windows are open. I’ll let you all know if I have to swelter in the heat tomorrow with no A/C – I guess I can always go out to the camper and have the A/C out there and cool off!! works with the generator on for the camper – but not the house – needs too much power for that.

UPDATE: 6:55 AM no power still they say around noon – I hope so – in the meantime the windows are open and currently 68 degrees – up to low 90’s today 🙁
We’ve sure had some quirky weather this year. You’re safe, that’s what counts. Others throughout the nation haven’t been so lucky!! Hope your power comes back on soon!
Oh no! We have very crazy weather here in germany, too. The humidity is unusually high and we had a thunderstorm last night, too.
Are you insured, or do you have to pay for the new electric devices?
Wow — sounds like you had a quite the storm. Sorry to hear about your electronics — hopefully there won’t be more damage. On the other hand — glad you’re still here! ;-D
Hopefully the rain didn’t cause too much damage in our beautiful garden!
Yikes! Sorry to hear that you lost some electronics from the storm … But I’m sure you’re thankful that it wasn’t any worse. Hoping that you’ll get your power back before the hottest part of the day.
Wow, what crummy weather! The good thing about rain is that you get lots done…inside. I love your hand quilted quilt. Hand quilting can be so calming and I love the look. I haven’t done it for years.
Good grief you really had a lot of rain / storms like that are scary !
The weather has been wicked everywhere! Beautiful quilts! Love your work!
That is a lot of rain! I hope your power is back on before it heats up too much this afternoon.
Wow that’s a lot of rain all at once! Glad the damage /loss wasn’t too awfully bad
That was a LOT of rain for such a short period of time. I think we only got six tenths of an inch and were so glad to get it! At least you do hand piecing 🙂 and didn’t need the machine.
Gosh you do have extremes! It doesn’t even get hot enough here to ” need” a/ c maybe highs of 80 on the good days, very occasionally hotter
