Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #139

Welcome to the 139th Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.
I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "A Gate Ajar for Me" and the author is Lydia O. Baxter.  There was not much personal information about this author - simply that she wrote many hymns for Sunday School and for services.

SundayJesusGATE

I have included a beautiful version of this hymn  (video is below the lyrics).
Enjoy!

Turn with me to number 227 in your hymnals and let's sing:

The Gate Ajar for Me
written by Lydia O Baxter (1809-1874) composed by S.J. Vail (1818-1884)

1. There is a gate that stands ajar, And through its portals gleaming, A radiance from the Cross afar, The Savior's love revealing.

CHORUS

2.  That gate ajar stands free for all Who seek through it salvation, The rich and poor, the great and small, Of every tribe and nation.

CHORUS

3.   Press onward then, though foes may frown, While mercy's gate is open, Accept the cross, and win the crown, Love's everylasting token.

 CHORUS

4.   Beyond the river's brink we'll lay The cross that here is given, And bear the crown of life away, And love Him more in heaven.

 CHORUS

Chorus

Oh depth of mercy!  Can it be That gate was left ajar for me?

For me......for me?.......Was left ajar for me?

For me.     for me?

Energy, Frequency & Vibration #8 - COLORS

SundayFrequency8

Energy, Frequency & Vibration #8 - COLORS

This is part 8 in the series on "Energy, Frequency & Vibration."  Today we are focusing on COLORS.  This will be an introduction on colors because in the future we will be doing one post per color and finding out what God says about each color.

We have touched on "color" before but not pertaining to energy, frequency & vibration.  There were two previous posts where we talked about God's rainbow (click on each post below to view these previous posts) :

We will begin by defining some basic terms and some measurement methods that we will be using in a chart.

Color - visible spectrum, wavelengths

Terahertz (THz) - a unit of frequency equal to one trillion herz

Nanometer (nm) - on billionth of a meter (this is the wavelength measurement).

Chromotherapy - color therapy.

Chromesthesia - hearing of a sound produces the visualization of a color

The question is - "Does color give off a frequency?" and the answer is "yes"

Color is very important.  Look at the description of our Heavenly Father in the Bible verse below:

SundayFrequency8a

Black is not technically a color since it is the absense of light.  And white reflects all visible wavelengths of light.

Below is a chart showing the frequency and wavelength of each color:

SundayFrequency8d

In the last Frequency post we learned about the possible benefits from church window shapes (click HERE to view "Church Window Shapes").  What if, stained glass windows in churches could be beneficial to us through the frequencies of color?  I believe that could be possible.

Sir Isaac Newton assigned the 7 colors of God's rainbow to the musical scale (as seen in the chart below):

SundayFrequency8b

I also included an excerpt from the movie "The Sound of Music" where they sing the "so,la,ti,do" song.

A special thanks to "Rogers & Hammerstein" for sharing this on YouTube

As I stated earlier, we will be learning what each color symbolizes in the Bible in future posts.  In the meantime let's rejoice and thank our Heavenly Father for providing us with such amazing colors!!
