Let me preface this with I had not used my sewing machine in about 6 years and was able to do the sewing it took to put these two things together. So if I can do it you can do it! These diy t-shirt projects are so easy and cost effective!
I have a ton of OSU shirts since it is my alma mater. Then, with every race that we do we get another t-shirt. Needless to say I have a ton of shirts! I am wanting to do really low budget things for Christmas, but that are still unique and appreciated. I started looking on Pinterest to find some ideas on what to use t-shirts for.
Here are two of the ideas that I have done so far. Merry Christmas to my sister! Thread cost $1.50 and I still have a ton of it so we will say this present cost 25 cents. Win!
DIY T-Shirt Projects: T-Shirt Scarf
1) Gather shirts of like color or theme.
2) Cut logos/designs out. I did different heights, but did about 10 inches wide.
3) Cut some extra fabric out to go between logos. Again different heights but same width.
4) Piece together and straight pin them together. Mine was about 6 and a half foot it length total.
5) NOTE: At the half way mark you need to flip the logos to face the opposite end. Envision it hanging around your neck to help figure out which direction the logos need to hang.
6) Sew pieces together. I sewed it with the seam facing out to add some texture to it with a wider back and forth stitch so it is like a zig zag.
7) Take out pins and done!

DIY T-Shirt Projects: T-Shirt Reusable Tote
1) Use a seam ripper to take stitching out of sleeves. The sleeves just fall off this way. Remove extra string parts that are woven into shirt.
2) Cut neck out of shirt to create the top opening.
3) Turn shirt inside out and line up the bottom of the shirt together.
4) Sew bottom together.
5) I used the doubled over fabric from the bottom of a sleeve as the bow if you want to add that.
6) Easy as that and you are done!
There we have it 2 DIY t-shirt projects for about 25 cents! Easy, simple, cost effective yet unique! I also made some super cute last minute stocking stuffer book marks too. I need some more ideas!
What are some DIY cost effective gifts you have thought about making?
Until Next Time- Truly Love,

Oh my word- I love this! Lynns and I are both OSU alums as well, so I love it even more that you used these shirts. 🙂
I have made bags from t-shirts before- it’s super easy and I am seriously thinking about using one of my old OSU shirts to make one now!

It was a fun and easy gift to create! My little sister goes back and forth between OU and OSU so I am trying to win her over 😉
What cute, creative ideas! Nice job!!
I love the bag idea! My husband has piles of old t-shirts in the closet and now I’m inspired to do something with them besides throw them out. 🙂
I was wondering if I could do one from my races…not sure if that would work. Might have to make a quilt out of them!
I’m loving that scarf! I am not very crafty myself haha….
It was not too bad. However, that sewing machine and I had to have a talk after I attempted my first run through and it ate my material! 😉
great job. these 2 DIY T-Shirts ideas are wonderful. it’s really good to save old tshirts.
i like it. it’s helpful to deal with the old thirst.
Most people have a lot of them hanging around. I have also got a quilt made of tshirts. Both are neat ways to keep them.
