The Value of Diet Coke
That is one headline I bet you thought you would never see on my blog. I never thought I would find any value in Diet Coke but I found a new use for it this past weekend and thought I would share with you.

For some years now (probably 5 or 6) I have had trouble relating to some strictures or rings in my esophagus. On occasion I have gotten pieces of meat stuck in my esophagus and have had to go to the ER to get them removed, 3 different times to be exact. It is not fun or cheap. I guess I could become a vegetarian but I have no real desire for that solution so I must come up with another one. An obvious one that I have tried to implement with varying degrees of success is chewing my meat slowly and carefully and making sure I am always sitting down to eat. Today I was doing most of those things but perhaps not all because I got some chicken stuck in my throat. (When this happens I can always breathe as it lodges down below the trachea) but I cannot swallow anything, including my own saliva or water). After my usual violent coughing it was not moving and I had to stop part way through the tasty pot luck lunch at church that I was participating in. As we were leaving church where the dinner was a friend suggested drinking coke. Of course we do not have any at home and I was a bit skeptical so I didn’t pursue it. But as we entered our 2 of this ordeal I went to my favorite way to research - google. I found a site where many folks were recommending diet coke in particular and that it had some very quick and dramatic effects. I also found a warning from one website which said. “ Avoid drinking sodas, caffeinated drinks and sugary beverages or juices because the increase in pressure due to the carbonated fluid and blocked food can increase the risk of projectile vomiting and choking.”
