It's been far too long since I've participated in Wednesday Hodgepodge...oh, how I've sure missed it! Today, however, is a new day and I'm happy to be back at it! So, if you'd like to join, just head on over to Joyce's place , answer the questions, and link up. Easy as pie!
1. Lake Superior University has, once again, published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen's English...here's the list for 2013-fiscal cliff, kick the can down the road, double down, job creator/creation, passion/passionate, yolo, spoiler alert, bucket list, trending, superfoods, boneless wings, guru. Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? I'd gladly bid farewell to YOLO. Why, you might ask? Because my girls say it ALL THE TIME! Plus, they get very annoyed with me because whenever I try to say it, it comes out sounding like 'yellow'. Yep...I say it's time for it to go!
2. When was the last time you road a train? Where did it go? Wow...an actual train, huh? It would have to be about 18 years ago when Brittany was 3 years old. We drove up to North Carolina from Tennessee and met up with my in-laws and Chris's grandmother and road a train through the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was rainy and very foggy, so we didn't see much, unfortunately.
3. Bagels-yay or nay? Favorite flavor? Favorite topping? I do like bagels, I just don't eat them very often. I'm more of a cereal kind of girl. I like them plain with a little cream cheese on top, nothing else.
4. 'Tis the season of awards shows-if you could star in a movie already made, which one would you choose? I'd have to pick "Gone With the Wind" being that I'm from the south and all. What fun to play the role of Scarlett O'Hara who was both sweet and sassy. Plus, who could resist wearing those amazing hats and dresses?
6. What's your favorite thing about staying in a hotel? Well, truth be told, I'm kind of a germaphobe and I have a tendency to think way too much when I stay in hotels. I wonder if the bedding is really CLEAN...what about the bathtub, toilet, and floors...not to mention the towels and washcloths? I refuse to walk around in hotel rooms barefoot and I never put my suitcase on the floor. Let's just say that I much prefer to sleep in my own home and in my own bed.
7. Do you have a 'word' for 2013? What's the story behind you're choice? I think it's 'TRUST'. I'm choosing to trust God more in my everyday life. I want to listen to that small voice He's planted inside of me...and be forever reminded that He will lead me wherever He wants me to go.
8. Insert your own random thought here. It's been pouring rain here for the past 2 days and I'm ready for the sun to pop out of those clouds, again! My hair can't handle much more humidity!

I love your random thought and your picture. That totally looks like me almost all the time--especially since we live in Florida.
I have a friend who always travels with cleaning supplies and wipes down the tub before she'll take a shower : ).
Welcome back! I know you had a marvelous time on your cruise... but yes, it's nice to get home and back to routines too. BTW, I never worried about hotels not being clean til the whole thing about bedbugs came out on the news. I agree...I think about it a lot too now!
Your girls use that word? I haven't actually heard it being used yet. I'm pretty sure I will in the upcoming months. Love your word for 2013!
Okay, I had never even heard of yolo. I had to google it! I'm not sure why anyone would suggest getting rid of passion or creator though. I'd personally like to see 'uber' disappear!
We've really been getting the rain here too. It's been rainy every single day this week and I'm getting so sick of it.
Hi April!
It was so fun reading your answers!
I'm totally with you on staying in hotels! And would much rather just stay at home.
I also am ready for YOLO to be gone! Ha! :)
I hope the rain stops there soon. Vegas was finally a little bit nicer yesterday, and not so darn cold. Yay!
Hope the rest of your week goes great!
Well, what is yolo?
I can tell by the questions that I'm behind the curve in more than one way. Now about those gender specific classrooms - I'm a teacher...I don't see it happening in public schools for sure. It will be one of those trends in education that come and go, like so many others.
Trust is a great word. Trust God, trust the people He puts in your life, trust the circumstances He puts you in. Trust - good word
Rain seems to be the random topic today! It needs to go away.
I'm afraid I haven't heard the term yolo at all. But I agree on Scarlett O'Hara...the costumes and Clark Gable.
Yep - about how my hair looks too with the rain :)
YOLO - the new OMG of this young generation :)
I have your same thoughts whenever we stay in a hotel...
Love your random...that picture is too funny!
As for a hotel, I kinda feel the same so I take some Lysol with me and spray everything down and remove the bedspreads and then I'm ok.
What's wrong with your hair? I love it!!! [kidding]...and for the germs, I too think of the very same, but I must say, I'd prefer the room service most. Then, again, how clean is the kitchen? Now you got me wondering. Oh, and GWTW...I almost put that, as I love her red dress [the 'harlot' dress] most of all. And of course the plantation.
I had never heard of "yolo" however as a senior I think we live that way every day because we never know when we can do it again.
I'm like you when it comes to hotels. I do Lysol the doorknobs, toilet, sink handles, tub, etc. No one can touch anything until I get in there. And the bed comforters come off and no one can use them- LOL. I have a friend that brings her own bedding. Not such a bad idea except I wouldn't want to take it back home ;)
Enjoyed all of your answers but love your random and your picture there! lol. Gone with the Wind - good choice, but give me some Sam Elliott or Richard Greer and we will talk. The movie where Richard learns to dance, yeah I would dance with him, or I would definitely ride off on a horse with Sam, and I don't even ride anymore. lol
until next time...nel
I remember years ago when I got my first job as a auditor in a hotel. I was horrified to discover they only was the comforters once a year if that often. I had way too many guests complain about various uncleanliness. I always take a sheet and blanket with me so that I can cover over the hotel bedding.
this is so fun ~ i may have to join in sometimes!! a great way to get to know fun things about you!! =)
Thanks for visiting my blog today for Hodgepodge. I enjoyed reading your answers. I think about the germs at hotels too and wonder about the cleanliness of things.
Have a nice day!
Bethany
Love the hair concept and feel your pain. Mine is horrid thanks to the weather.
Your hair must be like my daughter's hair! =)
If it makes you feel any better, my husband says "hello", often sounding like "yellow"-on purpose!
Have a great day!
We've had our warmest day in at least a week. I have windows open. Considering our high has been in the 40s for the past week and freezing temperatures at night, this is just a wonderful reprieve. Hope you get yours!

I totally agree with you on No. 1, 5 and 6. I love the idea of staying at a hotel but I'm also paranoid about everything you've mentioned LOL.
I didn't even know what YOLO was :)
It's been a long time since I've seen Gone With the Wind. Great movie. I think maybe the separations in class would work well in HS but not in the younger grades. Maybe even middle school would be a good one but I really don't know. Trust is a great word.
i live in western NC and have always wanted to take that train. one day!
Enjoyed your answers.
I, too, had never heard of yolo. Maybe it's only in the south. :) Kidding.
Scarlett did have great dresses/hats. Ohh, that red one she wore to the party. I've always wanted a red dress like that! :)
Your random comment was awesome! Love the hair.
I've caught up on your cruise posts and it looks like you had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing it with us!
