WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE
our hostess, Joyce, has these questions for us this week:
1. Lake Superior University has once again published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen's English...here's the list for 2013-
fiscal cliff, kick the can down the road, double down, job creators/creation, passion/passionate, yolo (an acronym for you only live once), spoiler alert, bucket list, trending, superfood, boneless wings, and guru
Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Well, from these you listed, I would have to say I would like to see 'yolo' banished!! Why? 'Cause I think acronyms are for the lazy ones...except for NASA, I like the sound of that. [insert wink] Oh, and another acronym is BOLO....I can never remember what that represents..."Be on the Look Out". Alrighty then.
2. When was the last time you rode a train? Where did you go? Way back, long ago...on a narrow gauge train in the San Juan Mountains...probably '77 or '78. Through rough terrain and belly buttons filled with coal soot! But, it was a fun experience to look out the side window of the train car and see way below...the rolling, rushing, river!! Gorgeous country, the San Juan Mountains. We headed to a one time booming silver mining town, Silverton Colorado. I posted about the trip, HERE and HERE
3. Bagels-yay or nay? Favorite 'flavor'? Favorite topping? A big 'yay' for me....my favorite is toasted onion topped with poppy seeds. And of course, cream cheese to top it off.
4. 'Tis the season of awards shows...if you could star in a movie already made which one would you choose? Oh heavens to betsy, I love movies, so this would be nigh-on to impossible to choose just one to 'star' in. But since I answered the 2nd question with the train ride to Silverton....Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed there [the train robberies]....I could see myself being Etta Place, [Robert Redford's love interest - in history and the movie]. Co-starring with Robert Redford AND Paul Newman. Ya, dream on...."hehehe, you keep thinking Butch, that's what you're good at."

5. The move towards single gender classrooms has been making the news in recent months....what say you? Do you think kids perform better if separated by gender and are taught differently or is that discrimination? If you're a parent, is this something you'd support in regard to your own children? Oh please, don't get me started on 'what society thinks is best for my kids'!!! I abhor the government [be it country or school boards] trying to dictate.
6. What's your favorite thing about staying in a hotel? Everything. No cleaning, no cooking, ...room service...you name it.
7. Do you have a 'word' for 2013? What's the story behind your choice? Hexenbiest (HEK-sən-beest; pl: -biester Germ. Hexe "witch" + Biest "beast") From the series GRIMM --- read more [but be forewarned, it isn't pretty!]
8. Insert your own random thought here. A couple of things that kinda coincide with the hodgepodge questions for this week: First: Here is a word generator that was fun to use, using a root word to make up new words: GENERATOR Second: I would not need to read the script for the movie of my choice in #4...I know it by heart; I can mouth the words for each character! And it's so my all-time favorite western movie, I did a caricature of the two long ago, and it's framed and has a place on our wall: Butch and Sundance--

I don't know if I would get rid of any of these words. Each seems to be descriptive and have it's place. I rode a train one time when I was a teenager...on a very poignant trip with sad and powerful memories, they haunt me still. But your pictures, WONDERFUL!!!! The title is perfect and I don't know how you did it. I think poor kitty must have imbibed a bit too much champagne on New Year's eve?
ReplyDeletealtho she didn't actually lick/drink any of it, I was sitting on the couch watching her sniff around...the fumes musta made her mighty sleepy! rofl
DeleteOh, to be as talented as you! My goodness, that is a great caricature of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid! About 5 years ago, when my sons were 16 and 13, I told them there were certain movies they HAD to watch with me...classics...and they would be pleasantly surprised. They grudgingly sat down to watch...the first one I showed them was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. After watching that, they never objected to any more of the "classics" that I wanted them to see. They LOVED it! I knew they would. :) I'll never forget seeing it for the first time....when they jumped off the cliff after Robert Redford admitted to not knowing how to swim, into the river and as they jumped yelling, "awwww, sh-t"....loved that movie. Hated the ending....but loved the movie!
ReplyDelete...."i'm drowning"...."I can't swim".
Delete"How many are following us?"....All of 'em?!! What's the matter with those guys?
You are so beyond talented, and creative. The pictures of the cat cracked my butt up!1
ReplyDeleteLOL....she cracks ME up too.
DeleteOh my goodness we are close. We are closer than you think. I started to choose either Robert Redford or Paul Newman. But, I didn't think of this movie. If I had they would have been my pick.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% about bagels too and I get so frustrated down here because I can rarely find onion flavor. They are all blueberry and raisin.. Nope I do not want a sweet bagel.
I had never heard of Bolo until you used it. I don't like this new slang.
I do love your Wordless pictures and that lovely cat who just so happens to resemble our cat Sassy.
I am sending out good wishes and good vibes for your son. Times are tough right now but thank goodness he's not a Liberal Arts degree holder. The world seems to think we no longer need to learn anything connected to that field.
Thanks so very much for link up. I just might make me a badge and make it official.
Happy WW!:-)
Oh, I hear'ya on the onion bagels. And yep....don't want sweet bagels here, either.
DeleteLove the pictures of your kitty!
ReplyDeleteButch Cassidy and Sundance kid was the first movie I ever saw. Good memories. Your caricature is amazing!
...really? Great 1st movie. Mine was Ben Hur
DeleteSo creative! Couldn't agree with you more on education!
ReplyDelete...it ires me so.
DeleteYour post reminded me of a trip we took long ago ( when I was a kid) to Silverton. It was a fun day! We went with my grandparents who lived in Denver.
ReplyDelete...it's a neat, and can be an educational excursion.
DeleteGreat movie choice! Who wouldn't want to act with those two? : )
ReplyDelete...Jill, I must say, your answers topped us all.
DeleteYou are so creative, Anni! Your kitty is too cute!
ReplyDelete...she's my comedy relief!!!
DeleteI have not heard of that bagel!! I love onions and would love to look into this bagel type!
ReplyDelete...that's 'cause they don't sell them much any more....hard to find.
DeleteServes the cat right if he/she got a hangover LMAO
ReplyDeleteHave a fantabulosa week :-)
she wasn't wanting much in the line of food or activity for some time. [kidding!]
DeleteOH Anni, WHAT was that cat thinking? Great pictures, BTW. I love your answers to these questions, and I have to agree with you about YOLO and BOLO. There's also that awful BOGO I saw everywhere during the holidays (Buy One Get One free). :-)
ReplyDeleteYep, I remember that from this past season, BOGO...ridiculous. And as for the cat, she really didn't drink/or lick anything...she was just curious AFTER it was emptied. I thought it was a hoot.
DeleteI agree...YOLO needs to be kicked to the curb! It drives me nuts! You definitely are one talented lady...sure wish I could say the same about myself! Wow...that word you chose for 2013 kind of leaves me scratching my head, I must admit. Great movie choice!
ReplyDelete...and for you it sounds more like Yellow? Hmmmm. Be gone yolo!
DeleteI'm so glad so many people are with me on the Yolo thing! And your train journey sounds awesome!
ReplyDelete...it was a great trip.
DeleteYour loveable lush is adorable!
ReplyDelete...she cracks me up sometimes.
DeleteWas für schöne Bilder von der Katze liebe Anni, einfach niedlich.
ReplyDeleteLG Mathilda ♥
...and I love our cat 'cause she loves me. ;o)
DeleteI love Paul Newman. My favourite move was "Cool Hand Luke".
ReplyDeleteOh ya....I liked that one too...."What we got here is a failure to communicate".
DeleteI love loving movies so much you know the entire dialogue by heart. :o)

We've watched it so many times since it opened in the theater....way back...golly, some 40+ years ago. My oh my, yes, it's been that long ago.

P.S. Would love for you to join us this weekend at Friendship Friday! :-)
Thanks,....I'll try and remember this for Friday.
DeleteThose shots of the cat made me laugh. Must have been a hard day she had to relax with a bit of the bubbly....lol
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question on my blog about the price of my machine. Mine is one of the less expensive. The suggested price is around 800 I think but mine was 300. Some of the machines can get pretty pricey. I've seen them in the thousands
...thanks!!
DeleteAnni that drawing is so cool...you talent knows no bounds. I love that movie too but don't have it down like you do. Which reminds me...haven't watched it in a while. The cat pictures are too suggestively funny...should of had a bottle of Vodka sitting on the table!
ReplyDelete...thanks Chuck! By the way, loved the lip reading NFL
DeleteI loved the Butch Cassiday movie... Love both of those characters... Paul Newman was my favorite 'movie star' many years ago... BUT--I liked Robert Redford too..
ReplyDeleteMy Dad worked for the railroad and we traveled by train when we went on trips... Daddy would get free passes for us... I have such a love for trains...
Hugs,
Betsy
...like I said, my favorite Western.
Delete...two beautiful men indeed!!!
ReplyDeleteYep. Your cat is a lush. The photos made me chuckle. Redford and Newman were so hot in the day... or rather I should say, "Cool" or maybe even "Foxy."
