Wednesday Hodgepodge

After skipping out last week because of Thanksgiving, I'm happy to be joining in all the fun, again, for Hodgepodge, hosted by Joyce. Just visit her blog here, answer the questions on your own blog, and link right up. See? Nothing to it!

1.  Which do you prefer-pretty gift wrap with a bow or a pretty gift bag with/without a bow?  What percentage of your holiday gifts are currently (as in right this very minute) wrapped in some form or fashion?  Well, I must say that I really enjoy bringing out my so-called "creative skills" during Christmas as I like to wrap gifts in coordinating paper and bows.  In fact, just this weekend, I purchased a whopper of a roll of wrapping paper that will probably last me a good 10 years. However, I, also, enjoy the simplicity and ease of using pretty bags.  Bonus...I can recycle them and use them, again. What percentage have I wrapped? Nada, zippo, zilch!

2.  What is one item on your Christmas list this year?  Ooh...if I was going to dream really big, I would love a new camera that allows me to take macro shots of nature. I've really taken an interest recently in taking up close and personal shots of things like ladybugs, spiders, butterflies, etc.  Here's one of my shots. I just want to be able to get in REALLY close!

3.  What makes a home? Family, love, faith, memories, hugs, laughter, warmth...oh, and scented candles!

4.  Motown founder Barry Gordy celebrates his birthday on Hodgepodge Day-Nov. 28th. Are you a fan of the Motown sound?  If so, who's your favorite Motown artist and/or song?  Yeah...I definitely dig that whole vibe. I love me some Jackson 5 and Commodores...takes me right back to my growing up years.  Of course, I still have a lot of growing up yet to do...we all know that!

5.  Red or green-which one is more prevalent in your closet?  Hmm...red is more prevalent than green, but that's not saying a lot. I own more black than anything else.

6.  True or false-bacon makes it better? If you answered true, what's your favorite dish made with bacon? True-I do love crispy bacon, but I try not to eat it too often. I love BLT's and egg salad sandwiches with a couple slices of bacon slapped on top.  Oh...and my new found love is artichoke bundles.  Trisha Yearwood made them recently on her cooking show on the Food Network and I located the recipe. Click here if you'd like to try them. You won't be disappointed...good ol' southern cooking at its finest!

7.  Share a favorite holiday memory. I have so many of them, it's hard to choose! When we lived in Alabama, we 'adopted' an elderly lady in need for Christmas. I'll never forget one item on her Christmas list...a can of snuff. You can bet that we got it for her, too!  I cherish all the Christmases my mom, dad, and brother shared with me and my family over the years. Since they've passed away, I treasure them even more. I remember one year, Chris and I decided to embarrass my brother by giving him a pair of Stud Underwear. Aren't we terrible? Let's just say that when he took them out of the box, they unrolled for about 3 ft. His face turned beet red and I thought my mom and dad were going to split a rib they were laughing so hard! Good times, for sure! Then, of course, I always loved seeing the look on my girls faces whenever we'd take them to see Santa. Such excitement and anticipation!

8.  Insert your own random thought here. Sure wish my girls were still little and believed in Jolly Ol' St. Nick. Chris and I always had such fun sneaking around buying them gifts and placing them ever so gingerly underneath our tree after they'd gone to bed on Christmas Eve. We still have a wonderful time, but it's just different.  If anyone knows how to turn back the hands of time, please let me know!

Your answers are so cute! If you really want a camera that's small and affordable but has good features, I have a Canon that I found on Amazon...it has the macro option and takes really good pics.

XO,
Jane

BLTs!! How could I forget to mention BLT's??!!

I just a camera for my birthday. As for zooming with a macro lens, I rely on my husband's photography skills to capture those beautiful shots.

I have a camera that takes pretty good pics, including macro shots, but the more pics I take, the more I'd like a new one that would take better macros! :)

My Mum is 50-something (I better not put her age on totally!) and I'm 28.

Every year we track Santa on NORAD on Christmas Eve, and pretend like we have to rush to bed as soon as we get back from the Midnight Service because we have to be asleep for him to leave presents!!

We have strong beliefs that we are never too old to pretend.

I love your story about your brother! It kinda reminds me of some of the silly 'rude' presents family members have bought each other as a joke on Christmas day in our house over the years...

I haven't seen anyone dip snuff in years but my great-grandmother LOVED it. We called her Big Mama though I never knew why because she was not a big woman!

Love your definition of what makes a home.

I love your Christmas memories, and those sweet pictures of your little girls. I agree about the hands of time... where did those little ones go? Have a great day.

I should have put a camera on my Christmas list, too...I'm another who wants to get good macro shots of nature, and unfortunately being a klutz hasn't been kind to my current camera. :/

Your Christmas memories are too fun. I'm sure the lady enjoyed her can of snuff!

I know what you mean about Christmas being "different" once the kiddos get older. We can't turn back the hands of time, but you can look forward to grandchildren! Christmas once again takes on excitement once the "grands" arrive :)

I've been eyes some macro lenses my self! Still learning my camera though but already know I want a macro and good zoom lens!

Oh if only we could turn back the hands of time to when our kids were small. Then again - I'm now at the "Grandma" stage and that makes for great holidays too.

Scented candles really add to making a place feel homey :)

The scented candles a person has in their house say a lot about them. I'm a cookie/pumpkin/apple person.

Awwww. That last picture with your girls makes me sad. Children grow up way too fast.

Thank you for visiting me so that I had a prompt to come over. I rarely take the time to visit and enjoy my friend's blogs.

We purchased some pretty tacky underwear as Christmas gags over the year. Ha.

Bless you!
Beth

I always love reading your answer, sweet April!

I ♥ wrapping gifts. I enjoy wrapping each and every one different and unique.

I am loving Trisha Yearwood's new cooking show. I've made two recipes from that show so far and have loved both. One if the Chicken Tortilla Soup--YUMMM!

I hope your holiday season is wonderful so far!
