I've been wanting to make these ever since I saw them here and then here. They are the perfect Christmas craft--FREE and easy to make, plus the bonus of reusing/recycling your old magazines and catalogues.
Start with any magazine or catalogue and press open to flatten the spine. Then start folding. The first fold is from the right hand corner over to the left side of the page.
Then fold the folded piece over onto itself into a point.
Flip it over and it should look like this. That point on the bottom needs to be folded up and tucked inside to make the bottom of the tree nice and flat.
It should look like this.
Repeat for every page of the magazine.
The thicker the magazine, the longer it will take and the fuller your tree will be.
This one was a Martha Stewart Living Magazine. You can leave them as is, or get a little fancy. Isn't it sweet in my thrifted white bowl?
Enter fancy!!
I've been coveting this glitter set for a long time and finally got it with a Michael's 40% off coupon. I also picked up some spray adhesive.
I gave the trees a quick coat of the spray adhesive
and sprinkled some of the glitter on the trees.
It's kind of subtle but sparkles when the light hits it.
They are hanging out on the kitchen counter right now.
I can't stop making them..I love this little one that I made out of a Tiffany & Co. catalogue.
I'm going to have a forest soon!!

Aren't you crafty!! That is super cute!!! Thanks for linking up to TGIF! See you next week,
Beth =-)
what a fun trip down memory lane. we used to do this when I was a kid .(I'm in my 50's now)...we would use reader's digest..if you stop at the first fold complete your pages , add a Styrofoam ball on top and hands to the sides its makes a really cute Santa or snowman. Happy creating.
This is such a clever idea! We have so many magazines to recycle, I'm going to have to pull a couple out for my homeschoolers. Thanks! (Hopped over from TGIF)
This is a great idea. I was thinking of the kids and I making some of these for the nursing home residents.

Such a cute idea. I LOVE it. Thanks for the tutorial- I'm pretty sure I would completely over think how to do this if I just saw a picture, but just folding the pages- so easy! Thanks so much for sharing!
HI Heather, Happy Holidays! I just came from Just Something I whipped up and saw your trees. I loved your Tiffany catalog tree. I love this craft too. I've been using my trees as card holders and window decorations also. Please stop by when you have a chance to see our version.
I'm a new follower and would love if you followed back.
What a terrific way to repurpose old magazines and books!

I remember a similar idea for a wreath from years and years ago.
I never would have thought of the glitter either!
Thanks for an exceptionally cute and creative share for the letter "E".
These are totally enchanting.

I've always liked these. I like the one with the blue. Cute.
I am so happy that you posted this! I used to make these as a kid and every year I think of them, but can never remember how we folded the pages. Now I know! Look out Reader's Digest! I'm coming for ya! We tried to make one out of a massive phone book one time. As I recall, it didn't work too well! We also lightly spray painted them green and glittered them too! How fun! Discovered you through Wow Us Wednesday (I think that's what it's called) and will be following for more fun posts! Feel free to visit me at pinkcherubmoon.blogspot.com! Hugs, Leena
