Wednesday Hodgepodge

Wow it's Hodgepodge 100!  Even as Hurricane Sandy swept across her homestead, Joyce came through with questions for us. True dedication, above and beyond.

1. What creeps you out?
Bugs and spiders.  I'm not wimpy about them but they do give me the creeps.

2. What's your least favorite candy?
I'm not a big candy lover as it is but I would have to say my least favorite would be anything with coconut in it.

3. Are you a fan of scary movies? What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?
Nope. It doesn't even have to be half scary for me to dislike it.  I don't even like tense action films. I think the last scary movie I actually watched to the end was Silence of the Lamb.

4. What part of life confuses you the most?
Well on an impersonal level, politics/elections confuse me.  I don't get the whole electoral vote thing. Who made that up anyway and why?

On a more personal level, this is a deep question at this point in my life.  I'm basically confused a good part of the time right now.  Like for instance, I miss my kids a lot.  Yet I really enjoy being an empty nester and the one on one time with the Hubby.  I'd like to figure out what to do with the rest of my life as in a money making hobby or something of that sort.  Yet, I enjoy being able to be at the whim and schedule of the Hubby and his travels and beckoning. So a 'real job' is not what I'm looking for.  Also, when I'm home alone this ginormous house seems pointless.  Yet when the kids are home we need it all.  See . . . confusing.

5. Pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, poppy...what's your favorite seed?
Sunflower, for sure.  I recall going through bags of them when the boys were playing baseball and soccer.  It's a disgusting little seed to eat but that's what you do at baseball games!

6. Imagine your life ten years from today...what's changed?
Well let's see . . . by that time my kids will be 34,32 and 31 and I would think that we would/could have 2 daughters in law and a son in law.  Also maybe at least one grand baby.  Yikes.  I think the Hubby might be thinking of retirement in the not too distant future.  I mean 5 years goes just. like. that!  Sounds like a good time, actually.

7. What do you a) love the most and b) like the least about the Hodgepodge?
Hmm this is hard. There are so many things... I'd have to say what I like the most is the fact that, as we've seen, one thing you can count on is that the Hodgepodge is going to show up every Wednesday! Meaning . . . I don't have to come up with another random not so interesting post on my own.  Ha.  Also what's fun is the anticipation of seeing what the questions are.  Joyce posts them right around midnight her time on Tuesday night which is only 9:00 pm my time.  You'd think I'd be one of the first to respond due to this fact. I have plenty of time to answer them if I had half a mind to and if I don't, I have all night to think about them.  Yet I am always hanging in around the 40th something entry.
I think the least favorite thing would be that it's only on one day of the week!  Ha.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
The Hubby has a flight to Boston on Saturday.  What do you think the odds are of that happening?
He says 100%.  Always the optimist.

Happy Halloween . . . I don't care for the whole thing myself but that doesn't mean I'm not ready for it . . .

I'm just sayin'

Even though I still have one home for another two years, I too am very confused at what I am supposed to do with myself. My youngest will start driving in Jan. When that gets here, I will have even more time on my hands. I would love to work, but after you haven't worked in forever, what exactly are you supposed to do? A fun little store would be great, but I am not working nights and weekends.

You could volunteer at the old folks home. No schedule, just drop in when you feel like it. They're ALWAYS happy to see a younger face telling them what's happening outside the home.

Do you have ANY kids come to your door on Halloween?

I'd be at your house for those full size candy bar.

After watching several baseball games on tv, I decided pretty quickly that baseball players love sunflower seeds. Now I know the fans love them too. :)

I think a lot of us struggle with what to do... or, at least I know I do! For many years I
didn't want to give up my freedom but I also wanted to do something that challenged me and also made a difference in someone's life. So now I volunteer in various ways. It works for me. Give it a try!

The house is a conundrum. We talk about downsizing and eventually will, but its also nice to have all this space for entertaining and especially hosting our extended families. You need it when you need it, but that's only a few times a year.

Still haven't figured out what to really do with myself. The time gets filled and I like the flexibility. Hubs is traveling next week and I'll go see my mom. I couldn't do that if I had a job. Sigh.
