HODGEPODGE
Joyce has these questions for us this week:
1. In what ways do you indulge yourself? Since retiring and the kids leaving home, it's pretty much doing what I want, when I want. That's my indulgence.
2. Have you ever taken a cooking class? Any interest? What type of class would you most like to try? No, never taken any classes; no desire. Tho, if I were to sign up out of necessity, I'm sure it would have to be for an ethnic/cultural class like, perhaps, Chinese cooking. I know I've cooked from 'Oriental' recipes that I've conjured up for myself after tasting something extraordinary at a restaurant, but I'm sure not only the recipes by my style of cooking; it is too Americanized.
3. What does it mean to be a good citizen? Simple... Living a life within the laws of the land. We are given rights as a citizen when we're born...no matter WHICH country we live in...and respecting those rights, adhering to those should be priority. A good citizen is just that....obeying the laws of the country/state/county/city/neighborhood makes an ideal citizen.
4. 'Tis the season of the political advert...do these ads influence your vote? Yay!!!! Once again, with no cable connection any longer for our TV, we are not inundated with politics. For that, I am soooooooo thankful. If I were to have this connection on politics, I would not be influenced in a positive outlook. From the past, those political ads were so negative and lies for the most part, I would 'shut them out' and always do my own research. The outcome from that has been erroneous for my vote many times from president down to city council. But, I still feel good [whether I become displeased with the incumbent], that I voiced my opinion and voted...wrong or right.
5. What's something you see today that makes you wish you were a kid again? The toys today. And the massive children's books that are printed. Especially the 'delicious' books for kids these days. I find myself, when I go to a book store, oftentimes I peruse the wonderful books for ages from pre-schoolers to teen books!!! I never EVER had that when I was a young'un!!!
6. What's your least favorite cliche? Lately, this cliché is very often used around here.... ' This country "HAS GONE TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET" ' - which makes me cringe 'cause as we arrogant Americans don't want to admit...we need to straighten up and fly right. But, here is a question for y'all who are reading my response. What is your take on this one? --- A stitch in time saves nine and comparing it to this one: "Gitter-done!!!" Which of the two just previously mentioned would be YOUR least favorite? I personally like the stitch in time reference as opposed to the over-used, modern version made popular by Comedy Central's "Cable Guy". I've been known to say "Gitter Done" often, very often in fact...but it's definitely my least favorite I think.
7. What percentage of your Christmas shopping has been completed? How does that make you feel? 0% This year, I have no overseas packages to send off...Any questions?
8. Insert your own random thought here. Last week's Halloween 'treat' is now moved to my sidebar if you'd care to pick it up to fill your 'treat bag' for the season. Just click on it and it should open up so you can save it to your hard drive. And as tradition holds true, the 2nd week's treat is here....
...again, just click on it to have it open and save if you'd like!!!
By the way, if you're viewing this blog post through a smart phone, I don't think the mouseover works, so the two birds in section above is, respectively, a Northern Shoveler and what I think is a Cinnamon Teal Duck. [not sure on the 2nd bird]

i love your blog changes. so great & creative too! oh, you talk about such good things. i love allow myself to indulge in what i wish. say a candy bar or a soda. just every once in a while though. i try to be good too. maybe taking a nap or reading a good book. me good? never. ha. ha!!
ReplyDeletei would love to take a cooking class... too fun!
i did buy my christmas card & stamps too. working on presents.
a good citizen ... for some it is tough. i feel it is pretty easy for me ... i was raised in a good family. taught right from wrong. i know better. i wish the best for others. no harm.
gosh, i have written a book. i will move on ...but it was fun to share. thanks for the words. & pretty views. (:
You have created a well conversed comment...I so enjoy reading your thoughts on the subjects for the Hodgepodge today.
DeleteWow, full of questions. Regarding the questions/comments about the political season, I must admit I'm a political junkie. BUT, here in Ohio we are able to vote early and we have already done so. Now when the phone keeps ringing I just say, "We've already voted. Have a nice day." and hang up.
ReplyDelete...I think just about everywhere these days, in most states, you are allowed to vote early. I'm a political junkie too, in a way....but I DO NOT like the mudslinging the candidates seem to guide themselves on.
DeleteLove the bill on the Shoveler.
ReplyDelete...they're odd looking if you're not one to expect or know about the Shoveler tho. I remember the first time I saw one, I thought they were mutants.
Deleteinteresting ducks, not seen these ones before
ReplyDelete...glad I shared the photos then....to have an 'unknown' for someone else pleases me.
DeleteLove the ducks and your number one answer - so far I have not been able to live a life like that! lol
ReplyDelete...patience, your 'do what you want' days are ahead of you.
DeleteOoooo, that is a nice header, Anni. Perfect for your Halloween hauntings. I also love your mouseover captions. :-)
ReplyDelete...thanks DJan.
DeleteWho you calling a quack???? hehe That's two types of ducks I've never seen or for that matter, heard of before so it's so interesting to see pictures of them!
ReplyDeleteI indulge the same way you do...do what I want when I want to! lol I so detest political ads...I'll mute the tv or walk away. I'm becoming so jaded about politics lately, it all seems to come down to who can tell the most lies. My opinion....it doesn't matter who gets elected, they'll screw up the country!!!
I've bought a couple of Christmas gifts already but hoping to get most of it done in the next few weeks. Always like to start December with my shopping all done:)
Thank you for another Halloween treat!! I clicked on it and then tried to save it but it won't let me..helpppp! lol xoxo
Pea....sorry 'bout that. That was because I was using Blogger's interface and forgot to change the code...NOW you can pick it up.
DeleteOh I love ducks. Terrific shots Anni, and a great reflection in that first one.
ReplyDelete...you're the first one to mention the reflection. :o)
DeleteLove the ducks, Anni! I wish I could retire and do what I want. Your number 1 sounds great.
ReplyDelete....I just hope the economy turns around so I won't ever have to even consider getting another job. I LOVE retirement way too much.
DeleteLove the pictures of the ducks. Your answer to the question about indulging yourself is sort of the same for me except for the retired part. No kids at home so as long as I'm not working I do what I want and I love the fact that I don't have to hide my favorite ice cream in the back of the freezer any more
ReplyDeleteLOL....about the hidden ice cream?!!!! Heck, I still hafta do that or Bud'll eat it all before I get a chance.
DeleteI'm not finding enough time to be retired, what with photography, grandchildren, chores, and e-mail (wasting too much time reading the fun stuff and never getting around to the important things). I don't wish to be a kid, but oh, to be seventy again!
ReplyDelete...well, I don't really want to be a 'kid' again either, I like the time of life I have right now, but to be a kid back when I was a kid and have the things the younger ones have now...I'd be a genius. LOL
DeleteGreat photos of the ducks.
ReplyDelete...thanks Mick
DeleteCute ducks.
ReplyDelete...thanks Denise.
DeleteGreat pics and more insite on Anni. I think all the kids toys are the thing that makes me want to be young again!! Serious, iPad's for 8-year olds??
ReplyDelete...you got that right?!!! We could all be in the mensa group if we had those when we were kids....y'know?
DeleteHi There, Great pictures and I did get the captions on my Mac!!!
ReplyDeleteBelieve me--the political ads are NEGATIVE this year --worse than ever before I think... Sad!
No interest in me ever taking a cooking class either... I LOVE to eat --but just enjoy good ole southern cooking!!!
You are so right about being a good citizen.. People these days don't seem to want to obey the laws or the constitution... Really BAD.
The country is in trouble --but WE are the ones at fault, not the country itself!!!!
Cold here this week. We have been enjoying a fire in the fireplace all week... Love it!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
...it's funny, we have a fireplace HERE and had one in Tucson....never used the one here at all and once in Tucson for the Millennium party we had. Yet, all the time we lived in Colorado we had no fireplace. LOL
DeleteWelcome back Betsy. I'm sure we'll take pleasure in your photo shares of your trip.
Love your shots Anni!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Water World Wednesday
Kim,USA
...thanks for hosting Kim
DeleteBeautiful touches of reflection in these water views! The beak on the shoveler is like a small, shiny garden digging implement!
ReplyDelete...thanks Gemma
Deletechristmas shopping??? are you serious???????
ReplyDeletelove your ducks today, so peaceful.
...I know, this year so far I say the same thing...'are you serious?'
DeleteVery cute blog header!
ReplyDelete...thanks!!!
DeleteI love the blog header. Halloween is my favorite holiday.
ReplyDeleteGet 'r done! LOL!!!
....oh boy, that makes two of us....I love Halloween.
DeleteHi there - nice shot of the shoveler - I really like this sort of duck - we have a different species here, but it still has the wonderful beak!
ReplyDeleteStewart M - Australia
...thanks for the visit Stewart.
DeleteLove how you did the mouseover captions. I really enjoy duck pictures because that is one species of bird I just can't seem to capture with my camera...at least not in all their splendor. Nice shots.
ReplyDelete...you have difficulties with ducks and I seem to always not be able to take a photo of any bird in flight....very challenging.
DeleteBeautiful captures as always, Anni! The mouseover caption idea is soooo cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veronica...you always have such nice words for me.
DeleteBeautiful pictures ... love the mouseover. Your header is so cute ... so very Halloween!
ReplyDelete...thanks Kathy.
DeleteLove the wonderful photography ~ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDelete...thanks Carol
DeleteJust dropping in to check on the WW postings...it is always a "treat" to read your thoughts! Hope you have a great week! I am having a hard time forcing myself to not be on the computer all the time...but I am working on it! I have been neglecting other projects and am now getting to them. I will miss Thursday Theme Song this week though...just haven't been able to get my mind around it!
ReplyDelete...this is going to be the last week for Theme Song. I just don't have the time to keep up with my birding blog, this blog, theme song and then life. I've got to begin placing priorities here and there.
DeleteLove the soft reflection in your first duck shot and the second shot is all around lovely!
ReplyDeleteFor this retired gal your indulgence reply hits the mark perfectly! I can relate to the childhood comment too. I get to play with the toys with my grandkids and that's like having a second childhood. Books too. I didn't have many toys and lived in the country with no neighbors to play with so books were my escape - they still are. Bookstores are heaven to me.
That makes two of us...I love perusing book stores.
Delete"A stitch in time saves nine" - fix it before it get's worse. I think many Americans, especially politicians, forgot how to sew (or never knew how) "Gitter-done" makes me go "Huh???"
ReplyDeleteI know.....exactly....but I continue to say "Gitter done". And I don't like it. Can't figure that out one iota.
DeleteA stitch in time sounds nicer, but sometimes I feel the need to say 'gitter done' in my best Larry the Cable Guy voice : )
ReplyDelete...thanks for hosting Joyce.
DeleteNice duck photos...thanks for telling us what kind they are. I enjoy your hodge podge...I try to turn my hearing off when they do the polictical mud slinging. I make up my own mind and do my homework on each candidate. Our country needs a good strong leader who will do us no harm!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure anyone strong is out there any more...it's so disheartening.
DeleteYour post is just ducky!
ReplyDelete....lol....cute comment!!! I like your play on words.
DeleteOkay-Love your header-how do you do it? Gitter done is my least favorite. Now that I have a grandson who loves books--I spend all my money on children's books! They are so GREAT! I even have different shelves for them-special pop up books, holiday books, truck books, etc. I love every minute I spend with him in the book store.
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean....those books for kids these days are phenomenal.
Deletelove me some ducks!
ReplyDeleteInteresting questions and your answers. Oh, I mailed you the book today, that you won on my blog.
ReplyDelete...I'm looking forward to receiving it!! Thanks again.
DeleteTo tell you I really enjoyed the Thursday Theme song, as a not very musical person, I find it challenging but fun. I posted my swan song, my pet peeve, on no littering.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the fun I had and also getting to know you better.
...thanks Anni. I truly enjoyed all your Theme Songs.
DeleteOoooh! My favourite indulgence is spending a whole day in my jarmies, with a good book, yummy chocolates and no-one around to bug me! :) Don't get to that often.
ReplyDelete...sounds like a winning combination to me. Especially the 'no-on around to bug me' part.
DeleteLove the duck photos.
ReplyDelete...thanks Neil.
