Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hodgepodge time has arrived, once again!  We'd sure love for you to join us, so if you're game, just head on over to Joyce's blog and link up.  All you have to do is answer some questions and that's about all there is to it. Here we go...

1.  It's a brand new month...share one thing you're looking forward to in October.  I have to cheat on this one just a tad because there's a couple of things I'm excited about.  Abby's "Sweet 16" is on the 11th, then Chris and I will celebrate 23 years LONG (cough, cough) years of wedded bliss on the 21st.

2.  Is chivalry dead? Explain.  I wouldn't go so far to say it's dead, but I think it's whithering.  From my own observations, I don't see many people extending courtesies to others as much as I did in years past. Guys don't seem to open doors or pull out chairs for their significant others much, anymore.  Wonder if that has anything to do with women demanding to be treated equally and they don't want men to do anything for them that they can do for themselves?  Personally, I love it when a door is held open for me or a chair is pulled out (as long as I don't go PLOP!).  Makes me feel really special. I always make it a point to extend those kind of courtesies to moms with strollers or elderly folks. I call them my "good deeds for the day".

3.  On Oct. 3, 1950, Peanuts comic strip made its debut.  Which character is your favorite?  Which character is most like you (Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Shroeder, Snoopy, Woodstock, or Pig Pen).  I've always liked Snoopy the best.  I mean, who can resist a dog with such a giant personality and a sense for adventure?

I think I most resemble Linus because I'm secure with my blanket and I'm a very trustworthy and loyal friend. Also, I believe in peace to all men and to the Great Pumpkin, of course!

4.  What's something you're competitive about?  EVERYTHING!  I'm very competitive with Chris.  Whether we go bowling, play Wii, or engage in a board game, my main perogative is to take him down at all costs!  If I beat him, I even do a victory dance to put a little salt in the wound.

5.  October is National Popcorn Popping Month...are you a fan?  How do you like your popcorn? I love a big ol' bowl of popcorn...anytime, anywhere!  I like it with plenty of salt and a sprinkling of white cheddar popcorn seasoning.

6.  When did you first realize the world was small?  Funny story.  I had an OB/GYN when we lived in Knoxville, TN. that I adored...not in a strange way, of course! He was just a really good doctor...and it probably didn't hurt that he was easy on the eyes.  I remember he told me a story once about how one of his patients had "stalked" him and had followed him to another state when he changed practices. Well, not long after, I got a letter in the mail saying he was moving his practice to N.C....the very same place we'd found out that Chris was being transferred! Can you believe it?  So, once we got up to N.C. and got all settled in, I started the tedious process of having to find doctors.  You guessed it...I located my beloved OB/GYN and made an appt. with him for my annual checkup.  By that time, it had been about over a year since I'd last seen him.  When he walked in the examination room, I, immediately, explained to him that I WAS NOT STALKING him and that we'd gotten transferred, oddly enough, to the same area.  Thankfully, he had a good sense of humor about it and we both had a good laugh.  It's a small world, indeed!

7.  In terms of architecture, what's the most beautiful thing you've seen up close and in person?  The first thing that pops into my mind is St. John the Baptist Catheldral in Savannah, GA. It was built in 1873 and it's so stunningly beautiful, both inside and out.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  Brittany is coming home this weekend for her first visit since she left for college on Aug. 15th!  We're all going to Auburn Univ. on Saturday to watch the Arkansas Razorbacks play the Tigers.  I have a gut feeling it's going to be another one of those games where I'll be hanging my head low.  Please, let them finally pull out a win!  GO HOGS...WOO PIG SOOIE!

I forgot all about St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Savannah. It's breathtakingly gorgeous, isn't it? ;-)

I didn't know that you could buy white cheddar popcorn seasoning ... I just put it on our shopping list.

So glad you'll have all your girls home with you this weekend. Go Razorbacks!

Sounds like a fun month for celebrating. Enjoy the weekend with your daughter, and hopefully you will be able to celebrate a win for the Hogs. (They are having the same sort of season as my Saints thus far.) :(

Sorry about the Hogs. My friend who is a fan has a photo of a razorback on his back giving up as his facebook pic. But maybe they can pull a win out sometime.

I know you're super excited about seeing Brittany. Hope your team pulls out a win! :)

What a great story about your ob/gyn - I had three different drs for my three kiddos, and oh, how nice it would have been if I had the same dr for any of them!

hey, a good OB/GYN is hard to find ... I'm thinking if we moved anywhere within 100 miles of mine right now, I'd stalk ... I mean still make appointments with ... mine! :)

Good luck to your Hogs. If they are on the schedule to play the Vols any time soon, they may have a chance at a win (had HIGH HOPES for my Vols this year ... and they are TRYING but just don't quite have that edge to win). :-/

That is a great story about your doctor! When you find a great one it is almost worth relocating for ;)

Lol. Of all the types of doctors to stalk!!

Savannah is a place that I've been intrigued by for a while, and would love to visit. Oh to win the lottery and be able to fund a MASSIVE USA road trip....

Weird but I absolutely adore my OBGYN too! You know what would confirm it's a small world? If we saw the same OBGYN here in NC...LOL. I don't think mine ever lived in Knoxville though :-)

Great answers as usual!

Loved reading this, April!

I love Snoopy, too, and Linus, but I think I am PigPen. LOL! If you could see my DR table, you would agree. ;-)

Great picture of the church. So pretty.

And chivalry is something I miss. I associate it with my father. He was the most chivalrous, the most genteel person, I have ever known. My husband's a keeper, too.

And 23 years? You go, girl! And I can't believe little Abby will be 16! I've loved watching your girls grow up. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

XO,

Sheila

October sounds like a good month for you. That story with your doctor is so funny. You can't make that stuff up! Love the Cathedral, great choic.

Fate had me check my spam folder in my blogger comments and I found a couple from you! I don't know why either....but trust me, you're now considered "NOT SPAM" and I'm hoping next time you stop by to visit, that your comment shows up in the appropriate spot.

As for the Ob/gyn story, that's too funny. But really, if you find a good doctor you're comfortable with, that was 'fate' again in my opinion.

Anything Cathedral/church in architecture is great.

Oh and by the way...want to send along an early wish for a happy birthday AND a happy anniversary coming soon.

Hi April!
I sure had fun reading your post! Always fun to learn new things. :)

Sounds like you have a busy Oct. planned. Steve's birthday is in Oct. too!

Your story about it being a small world was funny! What are the odds of that?!

I hope you're having a nice weekend!

Too funny about your OBGYN. It's definitely a small world. I've had a few instances where I have ran into local people. While in Paris our teacher ran slap into her neurologist at Rodin's museum. At Fountainbleau a fellow American asked me where I was from and they lived 20 minutes from me. It was so crazy!
