Hodgepodge Wednesday

I can't believe that I haven't participated in Hodgepodge all summer long, but I'm more than ready to get back to business today!  Joyce always provides thought-provoking questions for us to answer, so if you'd like to join in, just head over to her blog and link up.

1.  In your opinion, what's the most important job in the world?  Oh, and parenting is a given, so besides parenting, what's the most important job in the world?  Parenting was definitely going to be my answer, hands down!  So, my second choice would have to be nurses.  They can make such a huge impact on a person's healing and overall outlook.  I've had a lot of wonderful nurses over the years and a few that weren't so great...and it makes you really appreciate the difference between the two.  A warm smile, a gentle touch, words of encouragement and support can transform a nurse into an angel.

2.  Share a favorite or not so favorite memory from a childhood birthday. I'm going to choose the latter.  Well, when I was in about the 3rd grade, my best friend, Teresa, and I were playing at her house and she asked when my birthday was and I told her it was May 14th.  It's, actually, August 13th...do you see where this is going?  So, when May 14th arrived, she gave me a birthday present.  I still remember it...it was a loom kit and I had been wanting one for so long!  I was jumping for joy!  I made the HUGE mistake of letting my mom see it...she asked where I'd gotten it.  Boy, did I ever dread spilling the beans about this one!  I fessed up and told her that I'd lied to Teresa about my birthday and that her mom had bought a present for me.  Just as I expected, Mom demanded that I march myself down to Teresa's house, give back my gift, and apologize to her mother for lying.  I think the worst part was having to give up my beloved loom kit!  It was pure torture!  Oh, and one little tidbit I almost left out...Teresa's dad was a minister!

3.  Peanut butter-crunchy or smooth? Crunchy and slathered all over a Ritz cracker, thank you very much!

4.  William Butler Yeats is credited as saying, "Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth.  We are happy when we are growing." Your thoughts?  Wow...that is DEEP!  My thoughts are that I'm never happy when I've become stagnant in one place in my life and I'm not learning or trying new things.  When I strive toward a goal and expand my horizons, I've found true happiness and contentment.

5.  What's something that makes you cringe?  Three words...Honey Boo Boo.  Have y'all seen that show on TLC? You really should watch it one time to see what all the buzz is about.  It's become one of the top-rated shows on TV. It's disturbing on so many levels.  What really bothers me is that it sends out a message that southerners like myself are uneducated, lack manners, and have no self-control. I pray that since "Jersey Shore" got cancelled..."Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" will be the next on the chopping block.

Someone...STOP THE MADNESS...please!

6.  Name a song that always puts you in a good mood?  I'm sure I don't have to remind y'all what a devoted (more like obsessive) fan I am of Tim McGraw.  Well, he just recently released a new song called "Truck Yeah" and I love it! When I go to the park and that song is pumping through my earbuds, you can rest assured that I'm feeling mighty good!  In fact, it's quite possible I might even forget what I'm doing in the park in the first place! ;)

7.  The answer is 'yes'.  What's the question?  Do you wish you were still snoozing in bed and didn't have to get up at 5 AM?

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  I am so ready for the election to be over!  Though I have watched bits and pieces of the conventions, I get tired of all the political ads and bashing back and forth.  I just pray the outcome is one we can all live with.

Have a terrific day, everyone!

Honey Boo boo! That honestly had my jaw dropping when I first came across a TT video on youtube this past summer and saw her... and you described it well in one word: madness!

I feel the same way about Jersey Shore as you do Honey Boo Boo. I am glad Jersey Shore is going off the air after this season!

I can't bring myself to watch that Honey Boo Boo show. Just the adds for it are terrible! Parents living off their kid and showing the rest of the country just how bad parents can be! No thank you. I'm glad Jersery Shore is gone, should have a long time ago!

Awwwwwwwwww, nasty girl, you!!! Lying. But, hey, you were a kid, it's to be expected. You learned a lesson. Of course, but what I want to know is...did you ever get another loom kit later?!!!

Oh my goodness, I so agree with you - Honey Boo Boo ranks right up there with the Kardashaians in my book... absolute train wreck! *Shudder* Have a great day - we've missed you on the Hodgepodge!

I won't watch even the tiniest piece of Honey Boo Boo. Yuck!

I loved your birthday party story-that's hilarious : )

Some lessons are learned the hard way ... I, too, want to know: did you get a loom kit later? Glad you're back on the Hodgepodge train!

Your birthday story is hilarious!!!!! Love how a kids mind works when it comes to presents :)

I don't have cable, so I have not been exposed to Honey Boo Boo. A late night show was talking about it last night, and I didn't have the slightest idea. Thanks for the update on that. (Actually, I thought he was talking about Swamp People for a while, another piece of broadcasting excellence. (So yes, I occasionally visit people who have cable. lol)) -- And speaking of politics (from your random thought), the word "claptrap" certainly comes in handy with that. ;)

Hate to tell you but they already ordered a second season of Honey Boo Boo.

Oh no! I hope your friend didn't get too mad at you at least. Lol.

I watched the Honey Boo Boo thing one. Insane! I am so sick of trashy reality t.v. shows.

I am so sick of the election talk too especially with the DNC just up the street in Charlotte! Ugh!

Honey Boo Boo. Holy Cow. I have a friend whom I adore and she is the funniest person I've ever met. She thinks that show is a RIOT. I've made it through 45 seconds. That's all I could do. Birdie and I got a laugh out of your birthday story. Did you even get another loom kit?

I didn't even know about Honey Boo Boo, so I will be sure to pass if the opportunity presents itself.
Your birthday 'mishap' made quite an impression on you. Gotta love those life lessons, no matter how hard sometimes. Have a great Wednesday!

Of course I love "Truck Yeah" too and it's the perfect song to get you moving - it's got a rock edge to it! I definitely crank my radio up when it comes on! I had thought about my answer and considered "I like it I love it, I want some more of it". Oh - Tim has many UPlifting songs! swoon

Honey Boo Boo is not on a channel I watch so I haven't heard of it; I think I'm glad. I dislike anything that promotes negative stereotypes. It only encourages prejudice.

Ritz crackers with crunchy peanut butter sounds heavenly!

oh man! I cannot stand Honey Boo Boo, honestly why do they keep making these horrible shows? ;/

Glad your here today! Nurses is a good answer. That is a very interesting birthday memory. Lesson learned! I've been hearing about Honey Boo Boo. I guess I better watch one of them. I just told a friend of mine on FB about what they should do with these elections. They need to take all the money they spend in their campaigns and give it to us!!!

I dont know what I am more excited for - cool fall weather, or the election to be over! I love your birthday story - my mom would have made me do the same thing :)

Being from the south myself (Georgia, no less), I feel the same way you do about Honey Boo Boo! What a ridiculous bunch of nonsense!

I also made the comment today that I'll be glad when this election is OVER!!!

Great answers April! Of course, you know I agree with you on Honey Boo Boo. Just ridiculous!!!

Oh, and love Tim, he's from a town less than 30 miles from us.

My answer to #1 would have been with you on parents and nurses, and I would have added teachers.

Oh, got my Frommer's book on Savannah today and am about to plan our trip for this coming Spring.

Lots of interesting answers from you today :) I agree w/ you on nurses - and on Honey Boo Boo. I can hardly watch the ads. :(

Don't those lessons learned the hard way from childhood stick real good??! I went on vacation with my friend one year as a kid - and we told some kids at the pool we were sisters. Well, her parents got really upset that we'd LIE like that (we later ammended that we were "sisters in Christ" - ha - can't argue with that!). :)

One thing to be happy about is having only AFN (Armed Forces Network) for TV...at least during election years!! We miss all those awful commercials and don't get the phone calls either!!

HATE the whole toddlers & tiaras thing - what a train wreck!

I love being happy....content and satisfied with what I have, not what I don't!

Walking On Sunshine - my favorite song!

I think Tim's "Real Good Man" is a swooner of a song!

Now I need crunchy PB...

What a fun post! Oh yes, Honey BooBoo...I watched it once and couldn't believe it. I know what you mean about being misrepresented--every time they show someone from Missouri on T.V., it's someone who is either unbelievably sloppy or uneducated, which makes me angry since I'm from Missouri! I felt the pain in your birthday story. Have a great weekend!

Ha ha ha! What a great story from when you were young!!!!

BTW, I absolutely refuse to tune in to the honey show you mentioned. I will not legitimize it with a stat from my home!!!

The commercials for Honey Boo Boo are way too much for me! That is too funny about your birthday. I hate you had to give the gift back..it could have been considered an early birthday gift...LOL!
