HODGEPODGE
1. Our gracious Hodgepodge meme leader, Joyce, says: "I'm joining my daughter1 in the 101 in 1001 challenge. Essentially you create a list of 101 things you hope to do or accomplish in the next 1001 days". What's one thing you'd put on your list? One thousand and one days? Let's see, that's about 2 and 3/4 years' time, right? What do I want to accomplish? Well, I found some extra poundage lurking about... so, maybe, lose it? Or place it somewhere in a dark corner where it can't be seen!!! I don't know. Honestly, the fact I live from one day to the next without plans or itineraries, I rarely look farther ahead than my nose.
2. How many remote controls do you have in your house? What's one item in your home you wish could be operated by remote control? Four....garage door, two for two TVs and one for the DVD player. And as for a remote control I wish I had, I've oftentimes wished there'd be one for the back entry door. When I have bags of groceries in my hand, I could collect a lot more from the car's trunk if I didn't have to have the key to unlock...or open the kitchen door! If it were remotely opened, I could probably clean the trunk out all at once!!
3. What does having it all mean to you? Is it attainable? When I was a youngster, my dream was to have a good home, a husband and two children. I got that, am happy with what has been handed me in life and I continue to work on being happy...I think I have it all. All I ever wanted.
4. What's your favorite movie soundtrack? Oh my goodness!!!! First, I love movies....and I pay particular attention to soundtracks. There are so many I could consider a favorite. No wait...I like Titanic's love theme...Star Wars...Somewhere in Time [from the movie of the same title]. Even the soundtrack from JAWS!! Oh ya, and one that makes me stop and tap my toes to the rhythm?------------FOOTLOOSE!! [Kevin Bacon's version] I like way too many, hard to choose just one. I guess my all time favorite would be the movie The Way We Were...Barbara Streisand singing ...
5. Describe the best view you've seen from a rooftop. It's not really a rooftop per sé but a 'widow's walk' [a widow's walk is an attached boardwalk around the peak of a roof on a housetop] .... and that would be the view of the Pacific Ocean!!!! If it were to be a rooftop it'd hafta be the view of July 4th's fireworks in Colorado over a lake, late at night with the sky's stars to keep us entertained in between the sparkler's firings in town. Another 'roof top view' that would be a scene that will forever be implanted in my memory was from the top of the Washington Monument....I did NOT look DOWN...but out away from the small windows....Yes, I climbed to the top. I think the best view was the view of the Pentagon from one of the windows there.
6. What's your least favorite thing about summer? Besides the continual inferno and drought you mean? Okay... Unruly kids, out of school on summer vacation, and parents not disciplining them. In my day, families were courteous, kind, and had well-mannered kids. And that, dear bloggers, includes the ill-mannered parents too!!! It's just not happenin' anymore!!! And it's a shame to see the values of rearing the offspring and peaceful family outings going down the tubes.
7. Our weekly Hodgepodge falls on the first day of August. In ten words or less sum up your July. Hoping for rain, that never came!!! [6]
8. Insert your own random thought here. Today, I'd like to expand on my answer to # 3. I noted that I work on my attaining what I wanted in life, with the fact that it's a continual job of working on it. Not as in physical labor...but never ignoring what my life is all about in other words...By that I mean, it's just not being thankful for having what I have! Working on keeping the happiness is a full-time job. If I become lackadaisical in my way of thinking and actions, I'm giving up on what I've strived for for my entire life. The quote at the top of my blog says it all. You can't sing without having a song to sing!!! You can't live a life and be happy with it if you don't LIVE the LIFE. Just saying I'm 'thankful' is NOT enough.

I love your blog, always makes me smile.
ReplyDelete....you make me smile too Denise.
DeleteDitto on the ill-mannered kids and their parents. There was one in the store the other day that needed a beating - and I mean the parent! And I loved your description of being thankful vs. living the life. There's a sermon in those words!
ReplyDelete....yes, we are definitely molded from the same era.
DeleteFilm sound tracks - The Piano, Thin Red Line and ...... I'm thinking!
ReplyDeleteNice pelicans!
Stewart M
...thinking? I can't help myself Stewart...I must ask....does it hurt? [kidding]
DeleteLove the pelicans! I'm with you on that back door remote! Sound tracks? Well, after the opening ceremonies, Chariots of Fire.
ReplyDelete...I like Chariots of Fire too. I used to play that song on the piano a lot. In fact so much so that Bud was tired of it. LOL
DeleteI am a huge fan of the pelican : ) They seem very prehistoric to me. I'm with you on the remote when unloading groceries. I always carry too many bags and have to juggle the keys and then usually drop them so have to put everything down. Arrgh. I think unloading many bags of groceries is an exercise in growing our patience : )
ReplyDelete...now that you mention it, they DO look quite prehistoric.
Deleteps-Iron is a four letter word for me too, but my hubs rocks it : )
ReplyDeleteLOL....your husband irons? Wow....you have him trained well. What's your secret?
DeleteGanz fantastische Fotos.
ReplyDeleteLG Mathilda ♥
I'm happy to know you think they're fantastic.
DeleteGreat shots! And I do so enjoy learning more about you through the hodgepodge answers. You are very fortunate to have the life you do, and the fact you share it with so many of us just expands your fan base. I'm so glad to be one! :-)
ReplyDelete...awww, Jan, you make me blush. Thanks.
DeleteI love the pictures of the pelicans!
ReplyDeleteI agree on the rude kids and parents. It seems to be more and more of a problem.
Your idea of a back door remote is genius!
...I wish someone would come up with a remote door opener for the entry doors.
DeleteLovely shots of the pelicans!
ReplyDelete...thanks Pat...
DeleteI love your pictures and the collage!
ReplyDeleteAll of your Hodgepodge was spot on...especially #6
Hugs Madi and Mom
...thanks M&M
DeleteThat view of the Pacific sounds fantastic! I agree with your comment about ill-mannered children, but I don't think they're just around for the summer. Unfortunately, that problem is year round!
ReplyDelete...you're right about it being a year 'round thing. But, it's mostly the parents' fault I think....maybe society as a whole.
DeleteI so like to get that drifted wood. I bet pelicans won't like me if I do that. I hope rain will come to your place we have couple days of rain and it helps a lot. ^_^ Thanks for joining..Water World Wednesday I do appreciate it.
ReplyDelete...that drifted tree has been there for some years now, I think it's taken 'root'. And the bird life love it there.
DeleteThat's a great series!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDelete...thanks Gary.
DeleteI LOVE pelicans ... seeing them tells me that I'm at the beach, and that makes my heart smile.
ReplyDeleteThat view of the Pacific sounds wonderful ... but then, what's not to love about a view of an ocean? (Do you sense a theme here?)
Good answer on #3!
...thanks Kathy.
DeleteOh yes! The unruly kids. I saw some of those in Trader Joe's this morning. Until I observed and realized it was the mom who was the most unruly. And your remote idea is GENIUS! If you ever develop or find one- please let me know! But Barbara Streisand? You're on your own there. LOL
ReplyDelete...I take it Barbra Striesand is out for you then? LOL
Deletevery beautiful shots Annie! love it
ReplyDeleteheres mine.. http://ourtravelsthrumylens.com/longwood-gardens-fountain-show/
...thank you for the positive feedback.
DeleteI so agree about unruly children! My favourite soundtrack is a toss up between "Sound of Music" and "Oklahoma"! Beautiful photos as always!
ReplyDeleteNow you've gone and done it............Oooooooooooooooooooooklahoma where the wind comes sweepin' down the plains.
DeleteYes, yes! Regarding your random thought; Too many people are so concerned with getting it all that they don't live life as they are reaching the goal to realize what they already have are the important parts of the life they want.
ReplyDelete...the importance for me is to continue to keep myself happy...if not, then most of my life would've been wasted.
DeleteSo true with unruly children and parents need to be parents. "The Way We Were" great answer and Barbara Streisand has such a beautiful voice.
ReplyDelete...they all need to be sat in corners and realize that life is way too short to be so obnoxious. Parents included.
DeleteLove the photos at the top. The unruly kids during the summer drive me nuts. Some are really just enjoying the summer but some can get downright rude
ReplyDelete...downright rude, AND obnoxious.
DeletePhotos are great as always Anni...are you able to access my blog now? I notice you still have your cry for help posted at the top.
ReplyDeleteI'm in like Flint!!! Glad you stopped by....I've missed reading your blog.
Deleteso fun and great pictures of the pelicans!!
ReplyDelete...glad you enjoyed the photos Debbie.
DeleteOkay I don't like to be hot in the summer - lol. And I need to lose some weight in the next two years. sandie
ReplyDelete...LOL. Guess what I don't like to be hot, period. Bud will agree. roflmao [insert wink]
DeleteNice shots of the pelicans...one of my favorite birds to photograph!!!
ReplyDeleteme too....I love capturing their personalities.
DeleteHi Anni, Great post... I always enjoy reading your thoughts--and think about what I would say... I loved your last thoughts on love/life/relationships. It does take WORK... I go back to my first marriage and realize how little I did (or he did) to work on it. We were young, trying to make ends meet as we raised our 3 sons, and basically losing the love which we thought we had for each other... I'm truly not sure that I knew what real love was until I met George at age 59... That is when my life started ---and when I finally knew what love/life/relationship was all about... I'm thankful for these past 11 yrs --and hope and pray we have many many more together. BUT---even our kind of precious love takes hard work/sacrifice/compassion/friendship/and just JOY when together... I am blessed.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
yep.....it does take work. 24/7
DeleteGreat post and lovely birds!!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the Pelicans Anni! The shot with the tree is great. I enjoyed reading all your answers, you have a great sense of humor.
