Wednesday Hodgepodge

So glad that it's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge! Just hop over to Joyce's blog and link up with us if you want to play along.  Sure would love to have you!  The more the merrier!

1.  What is a pet peeve you have when vacationing?  It always irks me a little when Chris "works" while we're on vacation. He has a tendency to check his phone a lot and to bring his computer along so he can answer e-mails.  HELLOOO...a vacation is time to kick up your feet, relax, and turn off the outside world for a little while. We all need it to do that from time to time to recharge.

2.  Would you consider yourself a light packer or do you need everything in your closet plus the kitchen sink?  This one is super easy.  I, not only bring along the kitchen sink, but I toss in the oven and fridge, as well.  Does that answer your question? Hey...I like to be prepared for whatever situations might arise...monsoon, snowstorm, hail. You just never know!

3.  What's the best lesson a child ever taught you?  Ever since my girls were little, I've marveled at their deep appreciation for nature.  They love everything from roly polys to frogs to giraffes.  They've taught me to slow down in life and to really open my eyes to all that God has created...and just soak it in.

4.  Share one piece of advice you'd give a recent college graduate as they attempt to enter the job market?  I'd say to have confidence and to believe in your abilities.  When you go in for an interview, look the interviewer in the eyes, be friendly, ask questions, show your enthusiasm about the job. This will make a positive first impression. Once you land a job, make sure you report on TIME!

5.  What's your favorite lemon something?  Whenever I have a sore throat, I love to suck on lemon drops.  They're so tasty and soothing.

6.  Flat sandal, wedge, heel...your favorite kind of footwear?  Well, I prefer flip flops in the summer, but when I want to dress up, wedgies are the most comfortable on my feet. Heels and I don't get along too well.

These numbers are definitely NOT for me!

7.  What do you like best about a beach holiday?  If you're not a beach lover (GASP!!!), what do you like the least?  My favorite part about being at the beach for a vacation is sitting with my toes buried in the sand, listening to the waves roll in, and reading a good book.

This is one of the views we had when we visited Hawaii. I could have sat there all day long!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  This morning, I have my annual skin check and I'm a tad nervous.  Yeah, I'm worried about the spot on my chest, but I really don't like stripping down to my underwear, throwing on a dinky gown, and having the doc. check me over from top to bottom with a magnifying glass....literally!  So long, dignity!

Those shoes? I hafta say it..."god awful ugly"!!! There, now I said it.

As for the sink, oven, and fridge....maybe if you leave those home, your hubby will leave his phone off, and computer home. Well, it's a possibility. LOL ----

OUTDOOR SEASIDE SCULPTURES is my link for today.

Hope your Wednesday will be a glorious one, all day long!!

I have a hubby who works 24 - 7 too. With today's technology they are never away from the office. ugh. Good luck with your exam today!

I'm SO with you on #7. We just got back, but there's a little piece of my heart back on the beach, toes buried in the sand, listening to the waves crashing on the shore.

Good luck on your exam today. {{hug}}

My husband works 24-7 to on vacations. The phone never stops but he has a good position so you have to take the good with the bad I guess.

I LOVED HAWAII one of my favorite places!

Hey April! I enjoyed catching up and reading your answers to this week's HP. My philosophy on packing? Throw in everything you think you will possibly need, then start taking out enough items so you can close the suitcase. lol! Have a fabulous day. Blessings, SusanD

I so agree with #1. My husband does the same thing. I think we should put the phone down and enjoy the vacation. Of course, I'm usually using my phone to take pictures, but that's different.... :)

I haven't yet been to Hawaii but I want to go sooo bad!

I feel your pain on the annual skin check. I had a basal cell carcinoma on my chest a few years ago so now I too have to go every year. My doc is a woman though which makes it a little easier but still...no fun!

Love your answers today, they were all good--and those shoes! Who would buy those shoes?!

Hope your dr's appointment goes well...

I took the entire kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, etc...when the lovelies were growing up. You just never know what you'll need with little kids. Now? Only a few things. If I need something, I just do without. I've turned into someone who craves (desperately) simplicity. I can't get enough.

April, I pray for that spot on your chest to be nothing. I pray that a good report comes back and in the meantime I pray that the peace of God enfolds you and surrounds you. In Jesus name, I pray.

Thanks for answering my #8. And yes, Canada & Alaska are all must sees, especially Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in the Maritimes.

Funny answer on packing :) That is true about nature and children. Great answer! Love the shoes...OMG!
Perfect answer for the beach holiday. I know I should but I've never had the body search, sounds horribly enbarrassing.

My last check up - I did the whole naked/gown thing & had an intern join my doc - always fun... ugh! Good luck on that today!!!

Those shoes? I'd be in the hospital with a broken neck & spine from the tumble. Flat Old Navy shoes works for me :)

You're right - nature is a whole new world for kids... love that!

Take it from me, the loss of a little dignity is worth it. They found a carcinoma on my back, that luckily they were able to remove with minor surgery. Had I waited longer, the doc said it could have been much worse. Have a good rest of the day.

I'm following back. Must agree that the shoes are "no way, not me".

Wow, those shoes are just... wow. I love shoes but I think that this whole "shoes as art" thing is too much.

I also hate the "working" vacation, that seems to be the only kind that we take. My sister-in-law fixed that problem by mainly vacationing via cruise, it's much more difficult to work when you are out to sea.

Stacy said...

Grrr...my husband is like that, too. Just can't totally let go.

Those particular shoes shouldn't be for anyone!

I really need to have one of those skin checks done and have yet to submit to it. One of these days... with my fair, freckled skin (that also sports a few moles) and history of bad sunburns, I know I need to get it done.

Sounds like a day at the beach I would enjoy. Good advise on the job search too.

Wow, that's an awesome photo of the waves breaking against the clifts! In Maine there is a place called the Breaks or the Clifts, I can't remember which that reminds me of this, except there are no palm trees. lol Thanks for stopping by today. I'll email an answer to your question soon!

Wow- that view in Hawaii is stunning! I could have sat there all day too.
I hope your skin check goes well. I had it done only once and it was very uncomfortable to be exposed like that ;)

Love your picture of Hawaii, I think I could stand to sit there for awhile too. Enjoyed your answers. Praying about the spot! Better to be safe than sorry.
until next time... nel

Your post made me smile today...especially the bit about having your body examined with a magnifying glass from tip to toe. I'll be praying for ya!!

Those shoes were NOT made for walking, or even wearing ---ever! Why would anyone putm themselves through that! I pack a lot too, you're right, you may need that stuff!
My son checks his work email while he is on vacation as well, drives my daughter-in-law nuts!!!

carissa said...

well i am just shocked that you wouldn't want to wear shoes like that! i have a few pairs that are similar. ; ) i kid, i kid.

lol - i'm glad you are a very "prepared" traveler!

Those shoes are so funny! With my huge feet, size 11, I have such a hard time even finding shoes. I don't like mail ordering them off of the internet because I like to try on shoes and have never ordered a pair that is comfortable. The ocean! YES! I would love to sit in a chair and read a book all day! Hope you're having a good day and your appointment went well! P.S. I'm a hand sanitizer girl as well; especially in church!

Very nice pictures. I love giraffes... and those shoes! lol!

The sound of the sea is so soothing isn't it? It should be bottled and sold for relaxation therapy when we get back home again!!

I hope your skin check went well today :)

Best wishes, Pam :)

Yeah, I know what you mean about the Hubs not checking out totally. Oh well. I've gotten used to it. :)

I hope your appointment went well!

Oh, you are so funny and so right about the Dermatologist. I cannot stand that either and you'll dislike it even more the older you get. But, we gotta do it. Kind of like some other things. :o)

Oh, Hawaii, we're ready to go back but not sure when we'll work it in to our schedule. We'd love to take kiddos and all, but coordinating everyone's schedule is challenging at best.

Happy Wednesday!

Can anyone really walk in those shoes? Unbelievable!
That picture of Hawaii looks so peaceful; I can almost hear the waves!

It will be OK, April!! Nothing, absolutely NOTHING will be as humiliating as my gyno appointment before we moved to Italy!!!!! Remember that?? *shudders*

I was stationed in Hawaii, and the beaches there are so amazing! We were married there and can't wait to go back for a visit! :)

I learned to pack light as a single lady. I traveled a lot and I had to carry my own suitcase! Also, Grandma was very outspoken on her opinion that "Take just what you need and if you forget something, buy a new one wherever you are. If you can't afford it, you don't really need it." I have a couple sweatshirts from that philosophy. But I still use the sweatshirts!

Gotta go with Anni on the shoes; UG-LY! But I'm not a shoe fan at all so my taste is very simple.

I'm glad there wasn't unexpected news with that spot. Still praying it comes back negative. Definitely sending prayers as requested in today's post. Whether they are slow or in an instant, huge challenges test the strength of people and all the lives they touch.

I'm going to send my girl your advice on #4!! Would love to go to Hawaii sometime.
