Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge!  Just link up with Joyce and join in on a fun time!  Let's get started!

1.  My daughter 2 is graduating from university this month and plans to teach elementary school.  What are three qualities you most want to see evidenced in a teacher?  First of all, let me say that I think teaching is one of the most noble professions around. Teachers help to mold and motivate young people and they often don't get the recognition they deserve. Now, for my list of qualities. 1.)  Smart-I think teachers need to know their subject areas well. They need to come into the classroom every day fully prepared to teach. I can't tell you the number of teachers my girls have had who knew very little about what they were teaching and just barely scraped by. They, also, need to be smart in the sense that they know how to manage classroom behavior. Teachers today face a lot of challenges from cell phones in the classroom to kids who have no respect for authority. They need to have to ability to reel kids in. 2.) Inspiring-Good teachers need to have a knack for making their students want to achieve greatness in learning and in every other aspect of their lives.  3.) Love for teaching-There is nothing worse for a student than to have a teacher who could care less about his/her job and the impact he/she is making on students. They simply go through the motions and their heart isn't in it. Kids pick up on that very easily.  If they don't see that their teacher is excited to be teaching, then they, most likely, won't be very thrilled about learning.

2.  You can tell a lot about a person by____________.  I think you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat their parents, spouse, and/or children.

3.  What song makes you think of spring?  I'd definitely say it's "Walking On Sunshine".  Hearing it just makes me want to dance...as does the arrival of springtime!

4.  May 1st is Mother Goose Day. Share your favorite nurse rhyme.  "Mother Goose" is Brittany's nickname for me, oddly enough.  My favorite nursery rhyme is "There Was A Crooked Man". I used to recite it to my girls when they were little. Here's how it goes...

There was a crooked man, and he went a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpense against a crooked stile,
He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a crooked little house.

5.  What makes someone unforgettable?  I'd have to say a good sense of humor. If someone can make me laugh and put a smile on my face, I won't forget them

6.  Should music and/or art be part of a well-rounded education?  A resounding YES!  I believe I've read that if kids engage in music and/or art, they often do better, academically.

7.  What social situations make you feel flustered/nervous?  Giving a speech in front of a group of people. I break out in big, red blotches all over my neck and upper arms.  My heart beats so rapidly that it feels like it's going to pop right out of my chest! I remember one specific time in college when I had to give a speech. I looked at one of my friends and burst out laughing! I got so tickled out of nervousness. My professor shook his head and said, "Just have a seat, April". Not my strongest suit.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  Now that Chris is working again, it's time to play catch-up with my doctor's appointments that are way overdue. In the next 2 weeks, I have 4 different appointments scheduled (skin check, physical, GYN., mammogram). I figured that I'd get them knocked out as quickly as I could. What in the world was I thinking?

Hello, I'm April, welcome to my blog. I look at every day as an adventure and an opportunity to laugh and to learn. You will soon discover that my family and my faith are at the heart of who I am.

Great answers, April! You brought back memories of all the nursery rhymes I loved as a child!

I am so glad you are getting all of your appointments in. I have a skin check coming up, too, for this crazy rash I have. Hope you get the thumbs up on everything!

Jane

It seems like a lot of us don't like public speaking. Maybe that is why we are bloggers.

Those Dr. appts don't sound like much fun :( Hope all goes well.

Yay for your daughter to be graduating and good luck to her in her search for a job! Her first year will be the most difficult, but you learn something new each day. Take it day by day and she will make it! I teach first grade . . . LOVE it and LOVE my school babies :) I think you are 100% on target with all that you have said about teachers. You should be an advocate!

I definitely look at how a person treats their parents to see what kind of person they are!!

I agree, teachers do not get the credit they deserve! Great answer on #2. Wish it had been mine :) Okay, good sense of humor is a great one too....that's one of the reason I fell for my husband. I would love to speak in public but I can't!!!! Insurance is such a blessing.

That is a great song- so upbeat! I seem to do the same thing with my appointments. Don't know why but that it how it seems to always go.

Good luck with all your Doctor appointments. I know what it's like, but 'ya gotta take care of yourself'.

Have a lovely evening. :)

Great idea to get all those appointments out of the way. I'm glad you can get it all done now. I agree, speaking in front of people is so hard!!!

I never heard that rhyme, how fun.
Very thoughtful answers, I enjoyed them. Sorry for the late reply to Hodgepodge.

I am the same way with public speaking. When I was really young, I was actually really good at it-- and then I had a bad experience in college and haven't been able to get past it. I'm always glad to hear it's not just me...
