The First Loves Blogfest is hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh, and from his blog:
Your first movie, first music (song/band) first book, and first person. Four loves, one blogfest! So, here I go:
First Movie: The Secret Garden (1987).
First Music: Windy, by The Association.
First Book: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone. I first read this book when I was 9 or 10 (or at least around that age) and blazed through the sequels. Then it was an agonizing wait until the rest of the series was released.
First Person: I'll have to go with non-romantic love here (because I have no social life--ahem) and say my mom.

And now, for the Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) Blitz!
A smile. An encouraging word. A thoughtful gesture. Each day people interact with us, help, and make our day a bit brighter and full. This is especially true in the Writing Community.
Take a second to think about writers you know, like the critique partner who works with you to improve your manuscript. The writing friend who listens, supports and keeps you strong when times are tough. The author who generously offers council, advice and inspiration when asked.
So many people take the time to make us feel special, don't they? They comment on our blogs, re-tweet our posts, chat with us on forums, and wish us Happy Birthday on Facebook.
Kindness ROCKS!
To commemorate the release of their book The Emotion Thesaurus, Becca and Angela at The Bookshelf Muse are hosting a TITANIC Random Act Of Kindness BLITZ. And because I think KINDNESS is contagious, I'm participating too!
***
I thought about this post for a while, trying to think of who to acknowledge. I don't have critique partners (haven't even shown an entire novel I've written to someone else, in fact), or gone to a conference and met other writers, or done any other of those sorts of things that so many of you seem to have formed writing relationships through.
However, that's not to say there haven't been people who've given me great feedback on snippets or offered their thoughts on a writing subject I rambled about on my blog or shared their knowledge in a thoughtful post. So I'd like to thank all of you writers who read my blog for supporting me--if any of you need feedback on a story, the space to promote your book, or anything else I can do, know that I am happy to help out in any possible way.
***
Do you know someone special that you'd like to randomly acknowledge? Don't be shy--come join us and celebrate! Send them an email, give them a shout out, or show your appreciation in another way. Kindness makes the world go round. :)
Becca and Angela have a special RAOK gift waiting for you as well, so hop on over to The Bookshelf Muse to pick it up.

What were your First Loves? Are you participating in the RAOK Blitz, or have you been Blitzed by someone else?

Nothing wrong with selecting your mom! And The Secret Garden was a beautiful movie.
Thanks for participating in my blogfest!
I must admit I did think of my mum too, she's definitely the most important in my life, along with my oddball daddy :)
very well said, ge!
until i can get rid of the pain long enough to sit for an hour or two, with a clear mind, i'll sit on the sidelines and cheer everyone's efforts :)
The Secret Garden was great!
Windy was one of the first songs I sang in a choir at school. Elementary school even. (Hope I'm thinking of the same song-will click over after commenting.)
Great way to combine the two big things going on today as well!
Harry Potter was a close second to my choice of first book love.
Nothing wrong with your mom, of course I have no life too, so my opinion may not count..lol
Hey Mom's count as First loves! I enjoyed your post!
You could do worse than Harry Potter as a first love. I heart him as well.
Only 2 years of age I vowed to marry the love of my life who was an older man (Graham) aged 4. I still sometimes wonder of where he is and what he is doing.
Oh,dear, when I read Harry Potter read at the age of nine..... makes me realise just how old I am. :0)
Nice!
I have the secret garden to read this year. Can't wait!
The Secret Garden was one of my first movies too.
What did you like about the Secret Garden? Was it the whole cool walled off garden place that became uber beautiful?
The book has been made twice into a movie. The earliest version was filmed in black and white, starred Natalie Wood as the little girl, and had the whole garden scene done in color for extra pizzazz.
Lovely post - caught The Secret Garden again recently (the second version) and had a really nice afternon watching it! Loved your RAOK thoughts - and you're right - kindness does make the world go round - and there's a lot of it about in the web community :-)
Cheers for an uplifting read !
You lost me at "recovered from the A-Z Challenge." Bear is still plodding along with that — T is next.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
The best thing about RAOK, is there is no wrong choice! Kindness and connections with others is what makes the world go round!
Thanks so much for participating. You should stop in on Wednesday for sure and put yourself in for the CC memberships. That place led me to this point in my career!
Angela
The Association is one of my favorite groups--they did a lot of excellent songs.
I had no social life in high school either, but I did watch a lot of television back then.

Loved your answers and wish I had known up the kindness blitz....I am still blogging because of the kindness of my readers.
Moms are always special.
I know what you mean about the agonizing wait for the other Harry Potter books! And picking your mom is a great choice!!
Aw, your mom? That is so incredibly sweet!
i sort of remember the secret garden, i believe i have the score... and it's wonderful!
We all love something...right!

Aw, The Secret Garden! What a classic! Man, everyone is picking such good books and movies that I want to reread and rewatch them now.
I've been away a couple of weeks and just catching up with everything. There's a lot going on again for sure. Wish I'd managed to participate in these fests. Have to second the praise of everyone who gives advice and time freely, what an amazing bunch!
I think it's wonderful that you thought of your mom! And when the time's right, you'll have your social life.
So many great people out there today. It's true, sometimes, the niceness is just so overwhelming in this blogosphere it's hard to narrow it to just one person
And Harry Potter. Such a great series! With you on the agonizing waits. :P
I love The Bookshelf Muse. Great choice!
I read the Secret Garden long before I saw the children's TV series about it (and have never actually seen the movie).
Harry Potter is up there on my list, great choice
Great list. People used to tease me with the song Windy. Also, there weren't any really good "Wendy" songs.
Secrete Garden was one of my favorite books. Lovely tribute post to all your writing friends for RAOK Blitz. :)
I love that you picked your mom! That was my first thought when I read it. My parent even though I didn't put them down. lol.
I'm thinking lots of people loved their mom first.
Your choices for books and movies made me feel really old. LOL
This is so sweet! Your mom is a perfect choice.:D
Great loves... Harry Potter is so up there for me too.
I liked The Secret Garden too. The Harry Potter series didn't come along until I was an adult, but it's my all-time favorite series and probably will remain so for the rest of my life.
That was so sweet that you chose your mom. Moms are the best! I also thought the secret garden was great :)
Andrea
I love The Secret Garden, and my mom too! Parents are of course the first love we have and know. I like your blog, thanks for visiting mine! I'm going to see about the random acts of kindness. Thanks for blogging about it.
Secret Garden is a great choice and so is Harry Potter. :)
Harry Potter is the just the best series. You have terrific taste :)
Wow, you jumped right in and did more blogfests this soon? These look like fun, but I focused on cleaning up my To Do List instead.
If Harry Potter is your first book love, you're just a kid compared to me. My first book love was A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter, a book that was written even before my mom was born.
This was such a sweet post, Eagle! I loved it. :D
I love The Secret Garden. My grandma had it when I was little so I'd watch it whenever we went to visit her.
The Secret Garden is a great movie. It's awesome that your moms your first love.
How wonderful!!
Hmmm..."no social life..ahem" and then MOM... a two edged sword? ;)
All good choices, and I always support random acts of kindness. I feel, as a whole, we don't always stretch out our hands to help enough. Easier to walk away or be negative. Good for you GE;
Hope to meet you one day at a writers conference.
Man--you were so lucky to get to really grow up in the Harry Potter era. I discovered them with my kids and loved them deeply, but I was an adult. I think getting them as a tween and growing up with Harry would have been divine! And YAY for random acts of kindness!
Oh i just love Harry Potter. I remember exactly where I was and what was going on in my life the first time I read Sorceror's Stone. I jumped on the bandwagon late - right before the first movie, after Goblet of Fire was released. So I only had to wait for 5, 6, and 7. But it still killed me to wait!
Love the RAOK blitz!
I loved The Secret Garden, and Harry Potter OF COURSE!! But I was a little older than you when I discovered Harry, so he missed out on the first love position.
all in all a very happy and fresh post!! loved reading it!!
I loved the HP series and recently read The Sorcerer's Stone. I'm going through the entire series again and finishing up Order of the Phoenix. Thanks for sharing.
First Loves Blogfest has been such fun!
RAOK has been causing quite a stir... a blogosphere blitz!
I love how positive this random acts of kindness book launch has been. Great post.
I think I may have already addressed some of these topics in my blog. :P
I love Windy. I've only heard it a few times, but it always cheers me up.
I love this Kindness fest. It's great seeing it all over the blogosphere.
Those are cool blogging events! Nice post! And thanks to you GoldenEagle for always leaving nice comments on my blog! :)
I have an award for you on my blog!
You are so sweet! I'm sure your mom is happy with your choice! The Secret Garden is a beutiful movie, and the Harry Potter series is amazing.
Love your RAOK - hope to post mine on Friday . . .I'm a little slow this week.
Absolutely, a lot of people do a lot to help other writers here in the blogsophere.
I like that you selected your mom. My mom's at the top of my list too.
Rauf: Thanks!
Alex: Thank you for hosting it! :)
Trisha: That's sweet. :)
Laughingwolf: Thank you!
It's appreciated. :)
Danielle: Still one of my favorites.
Charity: Cool!
Thanks. I thought they were similar enough, in a sense, to combine.
Jeremy: Heading over a minute to find out what your first choice was!
Pat: 'Course your opinion counts. I don't think you have to be social for your words to carry meaning. :P
Summer: Glad you liked it!
Libby: It's a great series. :)
Petty Witter: Wow, at only two years old? He must have been awesome. ;)
Carole: . . . and reading the posts about 80s, 70s, and other decades makes me realize just how out of tune with pop culture I can be. :P
Clarissa: Thank you!
Matt: Awesome.
Michael: I think it's the character development. Everyone is affected in some way by Mary's arrival at the mansion.
It must have been something to have color in among black and white!
The writing pad: Thank you. :)
Indeed there is.
Rob-bear: Your A-Z posts are among the ones I most highly anticipate. :)
Thanks!
Angela: You're welcome--I'm having a lot of fun with the blogging event. :)
Lee: Sometimes I think I'm sliding into that. You should see me with Star Trek on Saturday nights. :P
Rek: You can still participate! I think The Bookshelf Muse is still letting people link up.
Cherie: It was so hard to wait, especially before the last book came out . . .
Nancy: Aw, thanks.
HWR Curator: Cool that you have the score!
Emily: I'm coming across so many unfamiliar titles my lists of things to read/watch/listen to are expanding. :P
Nick: Welcome back to the blogosphere!
Definitely. :)
Connie: One can always hope . . . LOL. I'm an introvert, so I actually don't mind not having a big social circle.
Janet: At least J.K. Rowling didn't take, like, a decade to write each book.
Brinda: Me, too.
Thanks!
Paula: You should watch it. :) They really did a good job with it.
Baygirl32: Thank you!
Wendy: At least it's a good song, though. :)
Sharon: This is actually one of the rare cases where I liked the movie better than the book. The book was good, but I liked the characters (particularly Mary) and plot less.
Thanks!
Theresa: It's a question open to interpretation, certainly. There's a lot of diversity in what people chose as their first loves. :)
Susan: Same here.
Sorry! But I'm just really young, I guess . . .
Emily: Thanks. :)
Tfwalsh: They're amazing books.
Christine: I sort of hope it remains one of my favorites--and sort of hope that something even more brilliant will come along, just for the reader experience. :)
Andrea: They are! ;)
Lisa: I really enjoyed visiting your blog!
You're welcome. :)
Krista: Thanks!
S. L.: Thank you.
Patricia: Yup . . . I like blogfests. :P
I like the sound of the book! Limberlost--that's a great title.
Carrie: I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Emily: It sounds like it carries memories for you.
Jessica: A lot of people seem to have enjoyed The Secret Garden!
Traci: Thanks. :)
Stuart: Yeah, you got it. But I don't think it's the worst combination. LOL.
Thanks!
That would be awesome. :)
Hart: It's really only one of a few recent culture phenomenons that I've enjoyed, so that was fun for me.
Daisy: I think I started reading the books right around that point, too. I know I had to wait for at least the sixth and seventh in the series.
Rachel: Aw, poor Harry. ;)
Flying high: Glad you liked the read!
Stephen: You're welcome.
Michelle: Definitely. I was looking at the link list, and there are a TON of entries!
Christina: Thank you!
DWei: Well, then you're all set. :)
Medeia: Me, too.
Agreed!
Shelley: I love stopping by your blog. You're a great blogger. :)
Jeremy: Be right over!
Tyrean: Looking forward to reading your RAOK post. And I don't think there's really a time limit for the event--the link list isn't closed yet!
Charles: It's a great community on the internet.
Donna: Awesome. :)
Love Secret Garden!
And you were 9 or 10 when Harry Potter came out? Yikes, I'm old.
How appropriate you picked your mom, as it was Mother's Day here recently.
So sweet of you to choose your mum, I would too!
Riya
Short and to the point, I like your first... :)
I'm not in the BLITZ :/

I'd like to see Secret Garden. Wow, you were 8 or 9 when you read HP? I'm feeling old. I think book three or four came out while I was on my honeymoon. I made my new husband search all the tiny bookshops in Alaska for my copy, but we couldn't find it.
Jay: Nah, I'm just young. :P
Same here!
Riya: I love moms. ;)
Barbara: Thanks--glad you liked it!
You can still post for it. :) The Bookshelf Muse continues to take entries, so far as I know!
Ciara: Aw, it's too bad you couldn't find the book. Though perusing bookshops sounds like fun. :)
I love the book The Secret Garden, but haven't seen the movie. Will have to look that up!
