Call it "Hump Day", if you will, but I refer to it as Wednesday Hodgepodge! Sure would love to have you play along, so if you're up for it, head on over to Joyce's blog and link up! It's always fun to meet new bloggy friends and to read everyone's answers!
And away we go!
1. February 22nd is National Be Humble Day...what makes you proud? What makes you humble? No doubt about it, my husband and my two girls make me very proud. I can't believe I've had the great fortune of sharing this life with them! What makes me humble is to look at all the people around me who are hurting, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It humbles me to realize that my "issues" pale in comparison to what others are facing.
2. Where is the catch-all (aka dumping ground) in your house? It would have to be our office desk. Since Chris has been unemployed, it looks like a war zone! Papers, pens, and business cards strewn everywhere! I try to avoid it at all costs!
3. Do you make it a point to visit State/National Parks when you travel or even in your hometown? What's your favorite? Yes, we have been to several of them over the years, but I'd have to say that the Grand Canyon was my favorite. There is no way you can stand on the rim of the canyon and not be moved by God's majesty. I've been there a couple of times and it absolutely took my breath away! Here we are in the summer of 2006...
I want to go back, again, one day and float the Colorado River! Doesn't this look like a blast?
4. How would you define honor? In one word...RESPECT...for yourself and for others.
5. Angel's Food or Devil's Food...which cake do you prefer? Being that I am one serious chocoholic, I'd say Devil's Food all the way! Come to momma!
6. What's the most recent road trip you've taken? Where did you go and how many hours did you spend in the car? Do you like to zoom to your destination without stopping or leisurely wind your way there with stops along the way? What is your car snack of choice? Probably when we went to South Carolina to visit my mother-in-law and brother-in-law for a few days after Christmas; it's right at 3 hours from here.
Now, keep in mind that I'm married to a former Army Airborne Ranger. That man has it down to the second as to what time we should arrive...no joke! So, the girls and I always know that we'd better take a potty break right before we leave because the chances of us stopping and messing up his calculated "time of arrival" are slim to nothing! If we're lucky enough to have to stop for gas, the girls and I often rush into the convenience store and pick up a bag of pretzels...FAST!
7. Recent headlines told how a child in NC had their packed lunch from home taken away and a school lunch substituted by a school inspector who deemed the homemade lunch unhealthy. Reportedly, the parent was then billed for the school lunch (chicken nugget meal), although an update to the story said the parent was not billed. The inspector was conducting a routine inspection of the classroom-he/she was not there to solely peek in the lunchboxes. The packed lunch contained a turkey/cheese sandwich, an apple juice box, a bag of chips, and a banana. Your thoughts? Personally, I think that lunch sounds pretty healthy, especially compared to some of the lunches I've seen schools offer to kids. I wouldn't want anyone intervening and deciding what my child should and should not eat for lunch, particularly without my being consulted. Afterall, I am the parent and it should be my call.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Have any of you ever seen the TV show "Infested" on Animal Planet? Oh.my.word! Talk about grossing me completely out! Just recently, the episode was about a couple whose house was sitting on top of a massive den of garter snakes! Every time they'd go outside in their yard, the snakes would be slithering everywhere! They even got into their water system, causing their water to smell musky! Brace yourself, but this is what they had to face...
EEEKKK!!! Trust me, it's NOT for the faint of heart!
Sleep well tonight, my friends! ;)

P.S. Brittany is wanting to bring you-know-who (AKA Connor) home tomorrow night for the first time. Personally, I'd much rather her come home by herself this time around because we haven't seen her since Jan. 10th. I know that if he's around, we won't have much one-on-one time with her. I don't have any immediate plans to become President of his fan club anytime soon, if you know what I mean!

I don't watch that program on a regular basis but happen to have seen the snake episode. Shudder!!
Ah, the boyfriends : ) My oldest's gets points for giving me lots of time with my girl. My youngest's hasn't been to our home yet but is hopefully coming for Easter. I like having them here because I feel like I really get to know them as opposed to just a dinner out or something like that.
This was great, April! And I love devil's food but I also love angel food cake... in fact I never met a cake I didn't like... *haha*
I watched about 10 minutes of Infested and I couldn't take it anymore! :)
The lunch Nazis would infuriate me.
Oh my gosh! I've watched a few episodes of infested and it gives me the heebie jeebies!
The Colorado River looks gantastic! I have very vivid memories of floating the Snake River in Wyoming when I was little. I loved it!
That chocolate cake looks divine - like a big ole Hostess Ding Dong!
I can't wait to hear about the weekend with Connor (aka Tony Chachere)! You never know, you may just adore him. OR Brittany may decide he doesn't fit in the with family and totally dump him. Hmmm. I know you'll be glad to see Brittay either way.
My Hubby told me about that snake show. Yikes! Gives me the willies!
Those snakes look like something in my nightmares - seriously! I have nightmares of snakes being EVERYWHERE. I would have passed out watching that show!!!!
boyfriends ugh that's all I got to say lol
snakes gross
Enjoyed your answers! I remember the boyfriend phase... my baby will be 30 this year, hard to believe! But we have a wonderful son-in-law and 2 beautiful grandkids. They live in Arkansas, in fact we are headed out around the 4th for almost 2 weeks. We go to a little town called Appleton. It is about 19 miles NE of Russellville. Where did you grow up? I grew up in Chicago but moved to AR in 1979, spent most of my life there...it is HOME!
Have a great week.
until next time... nel
No, I've never seen that show, and based on the picture you shared, I have absolutely, positively NO desire to do so. Ewwwwwwwwwww!
I couldn't watch that program!!! Your hubby is too funny with not letting you all go to the bathroom. Sounds like my friend's hubby. He does the same thing. Now my hubby NEEDS to stop almost as much as we do on some trips, so I guess that's good. Enjoy your Wednesday and your "visit."
That photo of the chocolate cake is pure torture... :)
I haven't seen "Infested", but I know about the house infested with the garter snakes. I wrote a post about it once. I can't imagine living there!
I see that you are from the Deep South. I'll bet we're neighbors, since I live in Georgia!
Oh my gosh you have me cracking up today... come to mommma..Haha and President of HIS fan club... Tee hee.
Love it. :)
Good answers.
I have never been to the Grand Canyon...we were on our way once, but within an hour of it hubby got deathly ill and we detoured to a hospital instead. If we ever do get there, I would definitely want to raft the river!
I love snakes, but still don't think I'd want that many around, particularly in my water supply.
I could not watch that show!!!!
My husband is always in a hurry to get to our destination even though we have all day! His father was military, I guess he learned it from him. I love National Parks.
thanks so much for the "warning" - I will never ever ever watch INFESTED ever!!!! :0/
I did appreciate your perspective on being humbled in #1 - I so understand that - I know people who face great adversity with so much grace - and it humbles me to know how much I whine when I have it so well.
You won my giveaway! Shoot me an e-mail!
Oh my Lord, the garter snakes! Oh, just NO! Creepy crawlies. The fact that they got in the water supply makes me think they could have come up through the toilet. Simply one of my worst nightmares!
I saw that Infested episode. Snakes just do not bother me. I am just one of those rare females that doesn't freak out over snakes or spiders. Now millipedes....that's a different story. Something about them has always given me the creeps.
