A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

"You Are My Sunshine" Crochet Rug

I must have a thing for ugly rugs because I make an awful lot of them :)

After being inspired by all the cool crochet rugs on Pinterest, I decided to make one for myself. Of course, I had to wait until our trip to Singapore so I could find a crochet hook big enough for a rug (Korea only sells tiny hooks. All of mine except 1 have been imported).

And, of course, I couldn't use just any fabric, like normal people, I had to use old junk clothes that people had given me. (Just as a clarification: People give me their clothes knowing that I will cut them up and make things out of them... so I'm not destroying some one's treasures.) And here is the result.

Oh, I forgot I had this picture. See! T-shirt yarn out of people's old clothes : )

Ok, now the rug...

TADA

Here is a comparison for size with my husband's Xbox controller.

It will now sit right here, in front of my sink (please don't look at my  kitchen!). Because it's made out of knits, it's nice and soft and fluffy on my feet. Perfect!

To create the rug, I used this pattern (I made it up myself): ch 3 form a ring. dc in ring until you run out of room. dc in space between stitches. dc, ch 1, in same st:dc, ch1, dc repeat.

Ok, I know that is really confusing. If you enlarge the picture maybe you can see the pattern. It wasn't working for me to just do single dc in each space so I had to add some in.

Oh, and can you guess why I called it "You are my sunshine"? It reminds me of sunshine and flowers... maybe I'm a little weird.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Cute rug! You can never have too many ugly rugs. I enjoyed the picture of your Korean kitchen...it brought me back to mine from wayyyy back in 2001! We lived in Seoul for a year (Army)....I LOVED our apartment and our landlady, Miss Ja Gar. It was a fun experience and I miss it!

  3. That is so pretty. Please don't use it on your kitchen floor. You are doing injustice to such a beautiful piece. I'd prefer to see it under the XBox Controller.

Thanks for linking up at Tea-Time Thursdays @ Kreative Korner. Your post added to the celebration. Party for this week is going on now. Hope to see you there.
