Beautiful Egyptian blue lotus
(nymphaea caerulea)
housed in the water lilly pavilion
of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens
At the moment there are about six of these
pretty soft blue flowers open
At night the flowers close and sink under the water
at dawn they rise and open again

Nice macro.
Beautiful lilies, maybe its just me but if I was a frog this would be where I would hang out, ribbit!
Spectacular! The colour is wonderful. Almost makes me want to have a garden pond!
How exquisite they are Dianne, gosh isn't nature fabulous, I love the lily pads as well, like big floating saucers. Hope you have a great weekend.
We both have waterlilies today. These are a fabulous blue - and how amazing that they sink under the water at night and then rise again.
Don't ever bother buying a DSLR, Dianne. You and your compact make a killer combo:-)
What a wonderful colour, Dianne, and fascinating to learn they close up and sink underwater at night. Always learning something new.

The lotus are beautiful!
These are gorgeous!
This is quite a rare flower... And I watched a documentary a while ago concerning the effect of this flower on Egyptian ancient culture. It seems that it has some festive quality that explain why Egyptian were so kean on that particular flower...
Please see my post on perfumes based on ancient Egyptian formulas
