Scraps of Home- A Map of the U.S.

I recently had some inspiration from this U.S. Scrap Map over at See Kate Sew. Mine isn't as colorful or well done as hers, but it is such a nice reminder of home to hang on our wall : )

OK, someone seriously needs to teach me how to choose colors. Did you notice Maine and Louesiana? Yeah, that's cuz They're the same color as the background.

And did you see Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio? Yeah, all green.... While most of the western US is yellow...

Ok, well I'm a work in progress I guess : P

This was my project Satruday afternoon/evening. The best part is??? No sewing involved. First I traced the 28 states onto some paper I had lying around from my computer (I put the paper over my screen and traced). Then I cut out each state. Then I pinned the paper pattern to the fabric and cut it out of the fabric. It was kind of a long process : )

When we moved into our house, the previous owners had left all of their really strange art that they had painted... and it was strange. So I used one of their old paintings. Using watered down elmers-type glue and a large paint brush I covered the canvas with glue. Then I layed the polkadotted fabric on top and spread it out so it was very flat. Using the same glue mixture and paint brush I glued the pieces of fabric states onto the canvas starting from the middle and working out.

It was really fun to see the US come together!
