The idea? Post three of your favorite games, whatever they may be--no restrictions.
My three:
1. Mancala
(SOURCE)
This is the standard sort of board, although there are versions where four people can play. The theory (in case you've never heard of it before) is to "capture" as many of those little pieces as possible by moving them around the board; there are several different ways you can play, by moving clockwise, counterclockwise, allowing people to take pieces when they land in an empty pit, etc.
I love it, for some reason--and I have a lot of fun memories of playing mancala before and during dance recitals. (50+ kids, one dressing room, two hours 'till your number, what else is there?)
If you want to play against a computer, go HERE.
2. Scrabble
(SOURCE)
Hard, sometimes (especially when the vowel monster hits and gives you what feels like all the "E"s in the bag) but a lot of fun. Objective: get as many points as you can on a 15x15 square board using randomly-chosen letters in a bag of 100. There are varying ways of playing this one, too; 7-letter, 9-letter, (the way my mom and I usually do), with score limits, etc.
3. Tetris
(SOURCE)
Because it's fun to eliminate as many lines as possible, and I thought I should include something electronic. Goal for this game is to arrange tetrominoes (the shapes you see) so that they make up solid lines across, which disappear as they join up.
Also, Tetris has been proved to improve cognitive brain functions, such as "movement, critical thinking, reasoning, language and processing". No, really.
To play online, go HERE.

So, what are some of your favorite games?

Great games, I love all three of them. =)
Poetry, Quotes and Book Reviews.
Love Tetris! Haven't played in forever though cause I'm too cheap to buy the full version on my phone.
Tetris is a blast! I've been banned from the game because I'll play it all day and do nothing else.
This looks like a lot of fun! Thinking I'm going to have to link up...
Love your favorite games!
I've played Mancala before. And Scrabble is even worse when it's half U's and half I's!
Thanks for participating in the blogfest.
Yep, Scrabble is one of my all time favorites too.
My kids learned to play Mancala, but I never did. I'll have to give it another try. I had almost forgot about it.
I used to play Tetris all the time when my father had it on his computer in the early 90's. Love that game! Haven't played in years.
Have you tried Tumblebees? It's very similar to Tetris except with letter tiles instead of shapes. Each time you put together a word, the stack of tiles drops down and you score points. I was very hooked on that one before I started blogging.

Scrabble and Tetris are on my list too!
I love Scrabble but despise Tetris! It always feel like some sadistic psychologist's test!
I'm one of those who would lose on purpose to Tetris. I just wanted to see how misshaped I could make a single strand of blocks out in the center of the board.
I've never even heard of Mancala. I'm going to have to look that one up. Sounds intriguing!
Thanks for sharing.
I don't dare click on your Tetris link. Back in the early years of video games, I got hooked. Alright, maybe tonight when the boys go to sleep.
I did not know the Tetris blocks had a name. Thanks for that.
I used to love Tetris, but I haven't played it in a while. Best not to start up again.
Yuck - Scrabble... makes me shudder. Talk about a Lysdexic's nightmare!
Tetris however... I could play all day. Never quite fathomed Mancala
Great choices
Lx
Great games and LOL! The only time I hit 500 lines in Tetris was the 1st time I flew. Needless to say I was scared to death :)
Jules @ Trying To Get Over The Rainbow
I used to play Tetris on my son's Game Boy after he went to bed. (See, kids are right - we adults DO play with their stuff when they're asleep.)
Tetris is fun, I forgot all about this game!
Cannot play Tetris anymore. Become addicted in less than one second. Love Scrabble. Never played Mancala.
Have you ever heard of the game Mastermind? I love that game. I don't own it but I know you can play a version of it online.
Golden Eagle!! You are the first of Cap'n Alex's blogfest participants that has ALL THREE of my favourite, favourite utterly favourite games!! Yay!! I love Mancala - it's ruthless and so deceptively simple and Scrabble - I never win but I love playing it! And Tetris!! Crazy addictive tetris!! Yay!!!
Take care
x
Hi,
Thanks for dropping in to my blog. Yeah, Scrabble is great for helping kids get good with words and lateral thinking. Never played Tetris, only car-parking tetris: zipping between and round to a parking slot that best suits desired position for fast exit/entry. ;)
best

Wow, a great list. Haven't played mancala in ages. Fun game.
I'm keeping a count of how many writers involved in this fest list scrabble as one of their favorites. So far...all of them.
I love all three of these, especially Mancala.
Great post and blog!
I've never heard of Mancala, but I love Scrabble and Tetris! Great list!
omg! I love Mancala and am super excited to try playing against a computer!
I remember Tetris. That was a lot of fun. Thanks for the link. I'm going to play a few games right now.
Tetris!!! I used to play that all the time. And I play Mancala with one of my sisters.
Mancala is new to me. Looks like a lot of fun. Love the others.
Denise<3
I love Scrabble and Tetris. It's all about making things fit in those two games.
Awesome choices! I was recently introduced to Mancala and had a brief obsession with the game. It's a lot of fun. Scrabble is also a favorite. And Tetris...I played the heck out of the NES version back in the day - so much so I used to see the blocks in my sleep! Ah those were the days.
LOVE Tetris. It's addictive. I used to play it so often that I'd have residual images in my mind. =D
Ha Ha, I love that Tetris is benificial! Mancala looks cool, too.
I love Scrabble and Tetris. Have heard of Mancala but have never played. Looks like fun though. I also like Yahtzee and Trivial Pursuit.
Scrabble is one of my all-time favorites. I used to play Mancala with my kids, but I was never quite sure we were playing it right.
I totally spaced tetris on my list- probably because I have not played it much recently but as a kid and even up into my adult hood its a fav.
I've never heard of the first game or Tetris. They both sound like fun though and I would love to try them both.
Thanks for sharing these unusual games.
oh! the game Mancala that you introduced, is called Congkak here. often played by people living in villages or long house. i'm surprised to see it elsewhere! :)
Tetris was always my favourite, behind Donkey Kong Country :D Love Scrabble too though.
chess... scramble [scrabble]... and monotony [monopoly], come to mind... but need to learn 'go'....
I like Scrabble and Tetris, even though I haven't played either in a while.
My favourite Tetris version was the Monty Python one in the Holy Grail game. ;-)
never heard of the first one, but LOVE the other two
Very funny and interesting. Mancala is the one that catches my eye ..
I looove Scrabble <333
I hadn't heard of Mancala. Looks fun!!! Great picks!!

Tetris is win!
Another Scrabble player! My mother was the Tetris addict in our house.
I am an expert at Tetris. Of course, when I say that, I just mean I can get a ton of furniture into a moving van.
I'm also an expert at Scrabble. Of course, when I say that, I just mean I can get a ton of points in Scrabble.
And I'm an expert at Mancala, too. Of course, when I say that, I'm lying. I'm probably about average.
Great choices!
ohmy! i'm terrible at tetris... also loading suitcases in a trunk... i think the skillz are very similar! never seen taht first game, but it looks pretty.
Tiger: Thanks!
Charity: I just use the online versions on the computer, most of the time. :D
RaShelle: LOL. It does take up time, doesn't it?
Emily: This was a fun blogfest!
Thanks!
Alex: Isn't it? Vowels and/or a lot of consonants are the worst . . .
Thank you for hosting it!
L.G.: A lot of writers seem to like it. :)
Tim: It's fun; I like trying to figure out the numbers.
Arlee: I've never heard of Tumblebees before. It sounds fun!
M.J.: Awesome!
Simon: I get that feeling from some other games; like I'm being analyzed when I'm playing them. :P
Jeffrey: LOL. I've done that!
Bryce: It's a great strategy/counting game.
Mary: Hope you had fun. ;)
Liz: You're welcome!
LOL. I don't think this blogfest was good for me--I ended up playing a bit of Tetris instead of writing yesterday morning. *ahem*
Laura: Me, too. :P It's grabbing!
Thanks!
Jules: You got 500 lines 1st time?! Wow. :D
Li: It is a fun game.
Siv: Going to play a few? :)
Carol: Mancala is a lot of fun.
Clarissa: Yes! I love it, too; I often had a bad strategy, though. :P
Old Kitty: Hooray for Mancala/Scrabble/Tetris enthusiasts! :D
Francine: LOL.
M: Thanks!
You should try the online one, then; it's great.
Susan: It's the words, I suppose!
Rawknrobyn: Thank you! :)
The Words Crafter: You should try it sometime. :)
Thanks!
Sarah: It's fun. For the one I linked to, I can get past Regular, but Advanced has me stumped. :P
Stephen: Hope you had fun! :)
Nicole: Cool!
L'Aussie: It is fun. :)
Theresa: I love games that do that. Even if it can be frustrating!
Liz: Thank you!
I never played it enough to see the blocks in my sleep, but it is addictive.
Donea: LOL. It's a fun game, isn't it? :D
Jon: Me, too. LOL.
It's a fun game!
Ladydragonfly: I've never played Yahtzee or Trivial Pursuit; they're on lists I've seen, though!
Susan: The rules can be a little confusing; I've come across several different versions. :P
Summer: I enjoy it, too. :)
Michael: Check them out! They're a lot of fun. Although Tetris can zap time. :D
You're welcome!
Levian: Cool! I think I saw that name referenced when I was looking Mancala up for this post; it's an old game, isn't it?
Trisha: LOL.
It's a great game!
Laughingwolf: I have got to learn chess sometime. I played a few games, and know some basic rules, but that's it. :P
I don't think I've ever heard of "Go".
K.C.: Ha! I've never played that one! :)
Baygirl32: You should try Mancala sometime! It's fun.
Leovi: It's a fun strategy/counting game; I love trying to figure out the moves. :D
Ellen: Me, too!
Kelly: Thanks!
Lynda: Definitely. :)
L. Diane: Lots of writers seem to love Scrabble. :D
Nate: Getting furniture into a moving van is a feat--as we found on our last move. :P
Try it out and see! Mancala can be fun. :)
Thanks!
Aspriring_x: The pieces in that kind of set are pretty. They can come in all different colors. :D
i love all those thinking games!
happy belated gameblogfest!
Ah yes, naturally Scrabble was big amongst the writers. I've heard J.K. Rowling would play Tetris when she needed a writing break, so that can't be a bad thing at all. And Mancala is a game we'd play w/ the kids as a "math game" at school. So you must be a total smarty pants!
Tara: Thank you! :)
Nicki: LOL. I'm not sure about that. :P
Tetris! My favourite! I love Scrabble too, actually.
Glad to see Tetris on your list. It can be addictive.
I've tried playing Mancala, but could never get the hang of the rules.
Tetris is definitely one of the most addictive games of all time.
But Lemmings was my downfall. It got to the point where I had to delete the game off my computer, but I wasn't getting enough sleep
