Chalkboards are sooo in right now- and I have gone chalk paint crazy! I am (eventually) going to debut a bunch of chalk goods to my wedding line in my Etsy shop, but I had to share this awesome little craft with everyone.
Just like every mom I know, I count on my wonderful, awesome, amazing hubby to help me get anything done (it doesnt hurt to butter them up before you ask them to haul trash, right?). I am a very verbal person, and my husband doesn't always (ok hardly ever) listen to what I say. His mantra is always "write a list, write a list"- but I am usually too all over the place to sit down and write out a list. I decided to make a cute little whiteboard to write out his "lists" while I'm sitting in my craftroom. I can look at the list and figure out what I forgot, what I need that day, and what I'm saving for the weekend. I can take a picture with my phone, text it to him, and I'm done! Might not work for you, but it's just my style!
You'll need:
Wood frame (I buy four packs of untreated wood frames at Joann's for $9)
Chalkboard paint
Brush
Fabric (I used the collar of an old white button up shirt here, cut into two strips)
First, paint the frame. I also painted the little cardboard backing so I didn't have to add anything.
When the frame and cardboard is dry, place the cardboard back in the frame, and secure. Cut two 1" strips of fabric out of whatever scraps you have- I used a white dress shirt collar (which ended up totally cute!). Flip frame over, take one strip of fabric, and staple onto back of frame.
Take other strip of fabric and twist. Form a flower just like shown in the burlap whiteboard. Use a simple stitch to attach to first strip of fabric, or you can staple it to the frame somewhere if you'd like.
Hang, and you're done! To get perfect writing, like pictured, you can buy a chalk pen. I have a really hard time writing anything legible with regular chalk unless it's very large. I found a bunch of inexpensive chalk pens on Etsy! I write on the frame, on the cardboard, wherever I need!
There you go- a super easy "honey-do" list! Now if only my hubs was motivated by cute items like I am...

love the creative way I spelled manure!
