Phew! This project was a lot of work!! I am really proud of how this turned out and I am excited to share it with you today. I think it was a pretty good attempt at reupholstering, especially for a first-timer:) So: here's how I did it! Voila!
I had a little helper to assist me in taking it apart…
Yikes! I ordered my fabric from fabric.com and it arrived in about 3 days. I have ordered from them before and again, I am a happy customer. I also ordered a staple gun from amazon.com for about $20. Last but not least, I needed paint! Cole and I went to Lowes and bought a quart of Valspar’s “La Fonda Teal.” How can you not laugh at that name?
I primed….
And then added La Fonda (3 coats!!!!) The Color looks so different in these pics- sorry!
Then I did something I never originally intended to do. I decided that the back of the chair was much too plain and needed a little something extra. So- I made a monogram stencil out of a piece of plastic from one of Chad’s police manuals! I found a font that I liked online and downloaded into Microsoft word and printed it. Then I traced it onto the plastic and cut it out!
Once I painted the monogram and peeled back the stencil, I thought “Oh my god- FAIL!!!!”
I had done a really crappy job of painting through the stencil and it was a mess! I spent the next HOUR trying to fix it! Thankfully I was able to smooth it out using some more of the teal paint.
Next came the part I had waited so long to do… Use my new staple gun :)
Once I was done, I had to drill the seat back onto the chair and then it was finished! It’s not anywhere near perfect but I am so excited about it:)
I hope you like it as much as I do!

It looks beautiful. Just to let you know also, that if you need to print a letter/s for stenciling, there is a choice in Microsoft Word Format>Font>Effects>Outline which will only print the outside edges of the letter, using less ink on your printer.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! You did an amazing job! Thanks for sharing!
