Wednesday Hodgepodge

Thank goodness for Joyce's  . . .

Otherwise I would have to worry about my lack of cleverness again.

1. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to mis-use, over-use or just general uselessness and they receive over 1000 nominations. Here are the fourteen words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2011-viral, epic, fail, wow factor, a-ha moment, back story, BFF, man up, refudiate, Mama Grizzlies, The American People, facebook/google when used as verbs, I'm just sayin', and Live life to the fullest.
What word or phrase would you like to see banished from our everyday vocabulary in 2011? You can choose one from the 'official list' or you can get creative and come up with your own.

Well there are a few words I wish were never created.  The "F" word comes to mind and any variation of said word, as in WTF.  Ick.  I don't know why or even how that word ever comes to a persons mind.  Ever.  A lady never says that work.  Ever.  Also, I dislike suck and stupid.  A lot.  Things that are mildly irritating are: using LIKE, like every third word, like all the time.  Also the saying: I know, right?  I don't get it.  I'm just sayin'  :)

2. Do you consider opportunity something that comes to you or something you create for yourself?

I think it's most likely a bit of both.  I could probably expound on this quite a bit but I'm not going to act on the opportunity given.

3. Since we're all eating healthy this month, ahem, what's included in your favorite salad? Is there dressing?

I'm really liking the chop salad lately.  Stanford's Restaurant has a really good one.  I don't think it's all that healthy though, there is cheese in it.  Is that bad? I like ranch dressing.  Or I go for a Cobb salad minus the blue or bleu cheese.  Not a fan of blue/bleu cheese, dressing or otherwise.  I love a salad with avocado.  Oh, and I really like a beet and cucumber salad but I have to be in the mood for that one.

4. The fourth Monday in January is said to be Blue Monday...aka the most depressing day of the year. The date was calculated using many factors including weather, debt level, time since Christmas, time since we've failed at our new year resolutions, low motivation and feeling a need to take action. Do you get the blues this time of year and if so what is something you do to lift your spirits?

I had never heard of Blue Monday.  Huh.  I don't think I get the blues, necessarily.  I do however feel the need to get some sunshine around about early February or so.  We used to do a little get away about that time but with high school sports and all things involving teenage children taking precedence, that winter trip morphed into the annual spring break trip which we put off until the after graduation trip and believe me, I felt that loooooong Winter/Spring season.

5. Do you wear a watch? Any other everyday jewelry essentials?

Yes, I wear a watch every day.  I just got a fabulous new one for my birthday, you can view it here.  My everyday jewelry consists of diamond earrings, a diamond pendant necklace, a tennis bracelet, wedding rings, anniversary ring and now a new pinky ring.

6. What is something useful you learned in high school?

Hard question.  I guess it was all useful.  Well except for algebra (which I still don't get) and geometry (which I still don't need.)  Also ~ it's good to be nice

"Don't be yourself - be someone a little nicer."  ~Mignon McLaughlin

7. Do you use an accountant when completing and filing your income tax returns or do you attempt to muddle through all by yourself?

This is not in my job description.  The Hubby does it seemingly all year long with Turbo Tax.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

The Hubby tried to defend himself said "I didn't say you weren't clever I said you weren't as clever."  I think he's just worried how he might be finding his undies on any given day.  Ha.

I'm just sayin'

I love a cobb salad, bleu cheese and all. I am trying to stay away from cheese because it is a weakness of mine and I suspect is contributing to my inability to shed pounds. Why is it when you say you're not going to eat something that is all you can think about???

We also use Turbo Tax.

Beautiful watch.

Loved your #1 and totally agree with it. I'm surprised you didn't protest about the "I'm just sayin'" being on the list since that's the name of your blog! (I know, right?) (shudder!)

All your answers were great!

I waited many years for a pair of stud earrings but they were worth the wait.

I don't think I've ever worn another thing since I got them.

Yes - what is the purpose of geometry?

I really think it's there to make high school hard.
