The Grotto is a peaceful place in Portland. It is a working church and a place where you can walk around and have peace with nature and cleanse your spirit.
The Grotto was founded by Fr. Mayer in 1923, it held its first mass in 1924. In 1983, it designated a National Sanctuary. Over the last 100 years, millions of people have come to visit and serves all people in all faiths or no faith- Everyone is welcome to visit and find peace:
The Grotto sounds like a truly serene and welcoming place—it's inspiring that for over a century, it's offered peace and spiritual reflection to people of all faiths.
